Didnt realise he was a keeper for Wigan between 1986 and 1993. He must have played both games against us in 1988-89 season (we won 2-1 in both games)

Weren't we losing one of those 1-0 till about 93 minutes, and won 2-1... or was that much earlier? (or a i thinking of a 2-2 draw after being 2-0 down till about 93?

Daarrrrreeeennnnnnnn????

There's a million miles between trying to get a penniless Sheffield United into the Premiership and getting a well funded Sheffield united out of the third division though.

Yeah our Neil really had to do it on a shoestring what with the £800,000 of Paul Ifill the season before we went up. The £1.7 million signing of Ade Akinbiyi and £1.2 million waste of money on Geoff Horsfield. Fair enough he could lure some quality free transfers but the last time I looked players don't usually play for nothing. He built a rather large squad up the season we got promoted and much like Clough fell out with some of them.

I know its not definitive but just noticed Adkins Wikki page while searching for any news. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigel_Adkins

I'm going all goose-bumpy..!
Its a piss take. Looked at the history and there is alot of them over the last two days, heres what one of them says... "Nigel Howard Adkins (born 11 March 1965) is an English former professional footballer, physiotherapist and is now themanager of English League One side Sheffield United. During the 2015/16 season Nigel will endeavour to achieve the 138 points required to remain in his job for the 2016/17 season."

You are referring to the last year or two after which we were promoted. Prior to that, we were clearly run on a shoestring.

And of course, whatever the resource, you'd have to concede that there is just no comparison in the task of escaping the 3rd division and reaching the Premiership. I won't even afford that line with a ? :)

In fairness to warnock though that was the 1st time he was given money to spend. He got us up. Before that it was free transfers and selling best players to the highest bidder. He did a cracking job at qpr too. Had the funds and got em up.

No, for the home game Deane opened the scoring heading in a Whitehouse cross, webster made it two with a header in the 2nd half. Wigan pulled one back late in the game. For the away game Deane gave us the lead (I missed it due to my dad deciding to set off late!) before Wigan equalised. In the 2nd half Deane made it 2-1 heading in an Agana cross. Late in the game Benstead saved a penalty by Wayne Entwistle.

You are probably thinking of the 2-2 draw at BDTBL in 1983-84 season. we were 2 down until the long injury time in which goals by Edwards and Kenworthy saved us (I wasnt at the game as I was playing football that day)

Yeah, wishful thinking I suppose. Will probably be Parkinson after all. :(

You're right as usual... the 83-84 game was where I learned to open beer bottles with my teeth.... this shows how different football was even in the 80s:

I was on John Street West Terrace with 3 or 4 of my mates, and there were 4 WIgan fans there - mostly about 50-60 years old. They were a little bit well-oiled, and were chatty with us. (They were staggered they even went in front and were loving being at BDTBL).

They'd also brought bottles of beer into the ground, but forgot a bottle opener.... or lost it... or chucked it at someone.... Anyway, while trying to work out how to open their beer I jokingly volunteered to open one with my gob... challenge was then set and they wound everyone up to cheer me on.

"Bugger", I thought.. "I have to do this now.... " Dumb male, Sheffield pride and all that. So I dug a tooth in, and levered a bit, then a bit more, felt it begin to move, and then a bit more and a bit more, and off it popped!!!

Hero!!!!

Guess what I spent the next 10 minutes doing? I got a couple of free beers out of it though, and no damage!!!!

I can still do it now... secret is a long cannine tooth and a lot of downward pressure to splay the lid.... Aaaahhhhh the memories.

True you can't compare the 2 situations but my point is Warnock had money to spend during our promotion season and a bit before.

Parkinson gone 4/9, Adkins gone from 5/1 to 9/4
Parkinson a smokescreen so the people ITK can make some money on it when the deal done behind closed doors. Can see it now as Adkins is signing on the dotted line mcabe is logging in to his paddypower account ....

I agree to some extent but you still need time to build a side.

The more I think about it though the more I think that is what did for Clough actually. It wasn't not giving him time to build as he had slowly dismantled the foundations he had built up previously.

I still would have given him more time. I think from the fans viewpoint it wasn't helped by the fact we have been down here 4 years now. That was not Clough's fault but I think it has added to our impatience. I just don't want to be a club that changes manager every season.

Who is putting the money on PP in the first place to make it appear a smokescreen though?

And they don't allow tops on bottles now the party poopers

What does that mean in plain english Grumpy? I don't understand betting odds.

Not sure myself but I think Parkinson has moved out slightly and Adkins has shortened.

Probably nothing to do with insider info just the bookie moving odds to protect their losses

For all my criticism of Clough, my plan would have been to give him until Christmas - 2 years - and then decide based on the direction of travel.

I agree, I think his demise came forward because of the feeling that we'd gone backwards of late.

If we appoint Adkins I will understand why we've jumped sooner. If we appoint a no mark, I'll be really disappointed.

What does moving out and shortening mean. Who out of the two is favourite? Ta.

If he didn't understand other one, he won't understand that grumpy:D
Basically means Parkinson is felt to be more unlikely and Adkins more likely for the job than
they were previously.
As is well known though, odds means nothing at this stage.

Themselves... A few bob here and there and drip feed it to a few media puppets and then they go in big when the deal done. It happend the night before clough was appointed Robinson went odds on. And with Wilson too im sure it was mark robins on that occasion. Then suddenly they went to unbackable prices like 1-10 etc

I know most people want Adkins but what concerns me is if he is such a good manager why has he
Been out of work since leaving reading,it's not as though there haven't been jobs available . Prefer KR myself

Cheers. I really don't understand all this betting chatter.

Think it's because it's mostly been championship jobs and a few L1 jobs that he probs wouldn't drop down to and
i think what he did at Reading will have been a huge put off to most championship sides i would suspect.
