We played some decent stuff under Spackman and Kendall

Yeah Kendall - to start with, but for his full season in charge he changed the style. I remember him saying in the close-season "you can't get out of this division playing football"... which I found bizarre as he'd lifted us from pending obscurity to mid-table doing just that when he first came. So, we became direct and it wasn't always attractive or entertaining. I think if he'd stayed with the style he adopted during the days of the "University of Sexual Football"* he'd have gotten us auto-promotion instead of play-off misery.

Interesting Point:

Out of Seat managers:

John Harris
Ken Furphy
Dave Bassett
Neil Warnock
Spackman/Donachie
Clough season 1-later stages
WIlson season 1
Porterfield season 1

Nodded Off managers:

Adams
Porterfield - remainder
Clough season 2
Blackwell,Blackwell and Blackwell (sorry, so ugly his game it needed saying 3 times).
Wilson season 2
McEwan

Managers like Jimmy Sirrell, Bruce, Happy Harry, Kendall were a mixed bag of style and entertainment value....

overall the relationship is pretty mixed.
Would agree with this. (Bassett onwards as others before my time) I see you've left wier out.... Another heading of a phone call to the Samaritans managers needed for him

left Weir out really cos I only saw 1 game under him.... (other commitments at the time).... I never saw us under Heath (i don't remember doing anyway.... so, no I wasn't at the Port Vale game....)

Maybe watching us under Heath would have come under:

"Samaritans didn't answer in time Managers"

Apparently Adkins to be appointed tomorrow!!

Morgan assistant . Always there like the bloke at Palace .

Adkins will know doubt be bringing in a complete new back room staff , which in a way is another big plus and positive . I have a feeling both players and fans will start enjoying there football again.

Shows the boards intent , with not just sacking Clough , but going for a clean sweep . which will cost millions . with terminating contracts . As long as it does not come out of the player recruitment budget to fund it . They may well be a tighter rein on the new manager , due to Clough having a complete free rein of the club , with no due deligence or quality control by the board , whilst he was in charge.

Spare change for the prince.

We had some great times and entertainment under Warnock but some god dam awful negative displays as well.

Point is he had 7 years to get it right. I hope we give the new bloke more than 1, unless we are bottom at Christmas obviously.
There's a million miles between trying to get a penniless Sheffield United into the Premiership and getting a well funded Sheffield united out of the third division though.

Yes, I remember our nervous displays in February, March and April 1997. We were poor against Norwich whose line up were weakened by international call ups, losing 3-2, also against Reading (we had few chances despite we won by 2-0), WBA. We were poor in the defeats at Barnsley (on Sky tv), Ipswich and Huddersfield. We didnt attack much in any of the play-offs matches

Don't use Twitter or FB
You'll be eaten alive on here if you are just guessing and hoping in order to massage your ego.

Spill the beans, how come you know and the whole press world, it's etc don't?

Some of the victories that season were very very scrappy and scruffy. I couldn't believe i was watching largely the same team I'd seen the year before.

Reliable Preston blades man on Twitter says we're in advanced negotiations with someone and we may hear something this week!
