Think we are missing a point here. Those three clubs are relegated teams because they are for what ever reason not playing well.

The danger next season may well come from teams promoted from L2 Burton (JFH), Shrewsbury and Bury all promoted because they are playing well.

These days well run teams on the up keep going up to their commercial and following capacity. Fleetwood will figure IMO as will Burton.

Next season this will be a league of little clubs and poorly run or poorly managed clubs. To succeed it's not good enough to have a fantastic fan base, a Dresso pitch, a big inherited name manager etc we need metal, physical players and an attacking mentally not trying to bore the Oposition into a superb 1-0 win or 1-1 draw.

The usual wildly over optimistic pre season talk, of can't see blah blah blah bothering us, as we collectively forget that we recently lost to Gillingham, Yeovil, Fleetwood, and Crewe.
The reality is we won 4 of our last 17 games.
There'll be no Baxter and Brayford, till Christmas.
We forget the bang average dross that Clough's amateurish recruitment burdened the club with during the last close season, that saw 11 players recruited and only one turned out to be good enough to be a regular first team player.
We forget that we got less points in the second half of the season than the first half, despite spending more money in the JTW than many clubs entire
wage bill for the season.

and it will all be fixed because
it's the new season.

Understand what you're saying Dave and I've liked the post because it's true but we do have to at least try and look towards the future. I know it'll be hard after this season but lets see if he rectifies anything.

Agreed,

Most people agree he has to change.

The trouble is I've heard the same things from Derby fans over the years, and history has a hint of repeating itself.
Or put another way I've seen no evidence he is capable of change.

One of the critical areas that needs major reform is player recruitment/scouting.
Anyone heard of any evidence of any change?

Brings it home only 4 wins in 17 games and NN always States we have a stronger second half to the season.

Will he blag it and keep his job based on that form?

Last seasons league was the poorest in a decade and we were above average in it

I dont agree , think itwas most competitive league weve been in , the crush at the bottom showed there was very little between 10 sides all getting over 50 points

and Colchester staying up by beating Preston

Some side hit good form , walsall , Fleetwood donny and barnsley all had good runs
to say it was poor is way off the mark

Competitive is another way of saying mediocre from top to bottom

I bet bristol city and mk dons dont struggle next season and preston in the championship , now that has been pants only 8 good teams

all the best cup heroics have come from league 1

bradford winning at chelsea , mk dons slaughtering man utd and us beating southampton nd west ham

The thing is Dave, he perhaps didn't think he had to rectify anything after his first part season for us but now he has to see what he needs to change and trust me when i say this, i'm begrudgingly willing to see what he comes up with.

I'm personally not happy with us sticking with him if indeed that's the case but what can me, you or anyone do that doesn't rate him? all we can do is support the club and hopefully Clough proves me, you and a lot of other people wrong next season. I have major doubts myself and you've pointed quite a few of them doubts out already but there's nothing wrong with discussing his short comings on here, some people have a problem with that on here which doesn't make for healthy debate, lets hope they come round to the idea of debating it instead of sticking on one side of the fence that cannot be shifted.

Evening.

Apologies for butting in. But was Reading this forum as a Millwall fan with a soft spot for the Blades - due to living in Norton Lees for a few years with an ex who's moved to Sheffield for Uni.

Anyways, as the League One line up is now all sorted it's always interesting to look to the new season.

I've read some of the doom and gloom on here, and am a bit surprised. As I would have you lot down as favourites. Not just because you're the 'biggest' club, but because you've got a good side that only needs a bit of tweeking.

Looking from the outside I'd assume the other runners and riders would be Bradford City, Fleetwood, Barnsley, Doncaster Rovers, and probably Swindon again; once they've eventually recovered from today...plus throw in a surprise, as well as one or two of the promoted sides.

Is that about right? Maybe Coventry City might do something? I've heard Wigan are in disarray behind the scenes...but they could also be a big threat. Blackpool...i think will be grateful to stay up!

As for us; well there's an amazing amount of optimism around SE16, considering we've been relegated, but I think there's a number of factors behind that...

One, we're just glad to be rid of Holloway, as well as the sicknotes, wage thieves and plan old donkeys.

Two, Harris will always have a lot of good will around Bermondsey and its environs.

And three, when we usually get relegated it's because we are in some kind of huge mess - be it trying to pay off building a new stadium as the economy crashes, a huge riot means we lose all our sponsors, best players and have to make games all ticket and pay the police £1m a season, or we are caught in a power play between property developers trying to cash in on our inner city London location just a mile and a half from Canary Wharf...

This time at least we went down just because the players weren't quite up to it, and the manager had lost the plot. For us that's a nice change.

Not that any Millwall fan is thinking we will storm this division at all. Just that it's nice that for once on relegation to this division we've got a decent and relatively wealthy chairman who puts money in, and is committed to the football side, a popular manager, a decent crop of kids coming through, and the foundation of a decent L1 team already in place, with no need to sell.

It usually takes us 4 to 5 seasons to get out if this division if you look at history. But, as said they've been from far worst starting positions than this time.

Therefore, I would be hopeful of making a good go at making the Play-offs next season. Not saying that will happen, nothing is certain in football, but it's a fair enough aim, considering our budget will be in the top 3 in the division.

As for Sheffield United, I think you'll clinch an automatic place. You're only problem is still being seen as the division's 'Cup Final'...especially with the amount of northern sides in the division.

That's why we've always done well at this level & bounced backed relatively quickly every time - we're not glamorous enough to be anyone's 'Cup Final', bar the odd localish small club like Gillingham...but we are big enough to attract decent players at this level, while having the confidence we can beat anybody, but without any big club weight of history pressure to beat everyone.

To Millwall League One is like a short prison sentence for a career criminal - an unavoidable part of life, but quickly forgotten and relatively easy to do.

As an aside I found one poster's comparison of us to Leyton Orient interesting. They've not played above the Third Tier for over 30 years! Indeed according to this link we are a lower midtable Championship side over the last 50 years, whereas they are a lower midtable League One side:

http://www1.skysports.com/football/...enal-everton-and-tottenham-in-ultimate-league

Plus, although not in Sheffield United's league Millwall regularly sell 6,000 season tickets, which is more than Orient have averaged altogether in about 30 years...and if we are top 3/4 next season we'll average around 12,000...im not even sure Orient could give 12,000 tickets away anymore! Millwall took 49,500 to a JPT Final v Wigan bloody Athletic...and no floating, middle class London football fans choose us for a nice family day out...Orient took 20,000 odd for a Play-Off, with lots of friendly Spurs & West Ham fans!

I mean we are under no illusions that we are a big club...but sodding Leyton Orient!!

Anyways, good luck for the season - my ideal scenario would be a Millwall & Blades 1,2.

We are only pre season favourites each year cos no one can fecking believe we are still down here.

A bit of tweaking? We need more than that. GD of 13 compared to above 30 and 50 for the top 3

Be even better cup final for all those teams next year as we are installing a nice Desso pitch for them to fuck us over on.

You might see league one as a prison sentence for the career criminal (like the analogy ;)) but we are here because we are a fucking mental case and no one wants to let us out. We keep self harming and bashing our head against the cell walls and when we get in front of he parole board (play offs) we cover ourselves in feaces and do our best to get out of it.

There will be other clubs that set up better than us next year because we are still "rebuilding" whatever the fuck that means.

Oh, and Harris has more balls than our collective management and board put together.

I think Wigan can challenge, they still have a good side, I haven't seen enough of their manager as a manager, they seem to have the funds to build a strong squad a bit like ours in our first season.

Also they've also made one strong addition with Richard o'donnell who I believe will be the best goalkeeper in the league next season unless a team gets a goalkeeper from the championship

You can be that shit, can you?

Would my money be better spent on Port Vale for promotion?

If it makes you feel better, Leeds United took 3 seasons to get back up...and they're the biggest club in the universe.
