All the Labour party workers clapped Ed Milliband.
They knew what was coming.

The players clapped Clough, do they know what's coming?

Surely unlikely
2+2=5?

When asked if he will be the manager next season he said I am the manger for today.

NC refused to be drawn on what has been said to him regarding his reattainment for next season.
Only that the discussions between him and the Chairman remains confidential.

Interesting stuff.
Tried hard to excuse his failure.
Plus the perennial public flogging of McNulty.

In the commentary they mentioned that Clough had said that McNulty was the one player most likely to make it. Was I dreaming?

Cannot see McNulty being here next season if Clough still in charge judging by that interview.

Cloughys favourite scapegoat Cyprus, although there may be times when he deserves it. Same interview he puts a comforting arm around Howard who's inconsistency has been costing us of late.

What an absolute load of shite. So to summarise, none of the debacle that was the 2014/15 season was Clough's fault; losing our right back to injury was the reason we lost tonight; McNulty is shit when he starts; etc. etc

Nigel your are absolutely pathetic, you have bought 25 players, and yet we still end the season unable to put out a team with any centre backs, by your own admission you heap praise on what Che Adams can do yet you rarely pick him and only give home 5 minutes tonight, you moan about injuries yet you have assembled a squad of over 40 players. Ecuses, excuses. Your arrogance is staggering - please go and manage Barcelona or Real Madrid, teams which surely are worthy of your managerial brilliance.

The players who are praising Clough do so because they know in their hearts they are not good enough to play at a higher level, best they stay here with Clough rather than step outside their comfort zones.
Cowardly wankers.

He may have been disappointed with McNulty tonight, but what's to be gained by publicly criticising him like that?
The interviewer had wound him up but I agree it was uncalled for to start criticising McNulty. He only picked up on that subject because Buchan often asks about McNulty starting. Poor from Clough, he should know better and not try to score points over the journalist.

But my view is that McNulty often offers little to the team play when he starts, I'd put Done and Adams ahead of him. He still young and may improve further.

But not the time and place for him to have that discussion with a radio journalist.

A lot of his decisions are mystifying. We seemed to be suffering exactly the same problems at the end of the season as at the start. A load of players were brought in and shipped out but it had zero effect on the quality on the pitch. The ones who came in were pretty indistinguishable from the ones who were bombed out for apparently not being up to it.

At the same time, what's the alternative to Clough? We spend the summer agonising whether it will be the young up and comer from Staveley Miners Welfare or the experienced old head whose had a succession of uninspiring stints at various lower league clubs.

Can i just say this....

Reading a lot of unitedites comments tonight i feel ashamed to support the same club as you, people are coming out with death threats, insults and just the same shit.. you'd think the leader of ISIS was managing us..

Clough tried...he gave us a lot to be grateful for (cup success, and yes the cup is irrelevant when compared to the league)...he's 49 year old man managing a football team we support...he didn't get us promoted, fair enough, will the next manager get us promoted?

Annnd that's football I'm afraid, it's entertainment, we watch overpaid men kick a ball around on grass but at the end of the day we SUPPORT our team, that's our identity, these last 5 years have been pretty shitty but I'm sure our time will come.

But yeah..Clough isn't the right man for the job, but tweeting negative and nasty stuff about him is only ruining and embarrassing our reputation.

THe failure to swallow his pride and play Collins cost us a place in the play off final, which we would almost certainly have lost to Preston but that's by the by.

We can't afford to let the ego of a manager who has no league promotions on his CV continue to sabotage our chances.

Need to say thanks but goodbye.

What do you mean he didn't get us promoted fair enough? It's not fair enough at all. He's made numerous ridiculous decisions. Inexplicable squad rotations, publicly slating players, dropping players without explanation, not sorting the defence, what's fair enough about this season of complete shit he has served us warm?

He didn't half sound like his old man when he was telling the journo what questions he should be asking. He's arrogant but most managers are. Thought he spoke quite well. 2 centre halves, a striker and AN Other coming in over the summer. I think that's pretty much what would be on most fans' wish lists. It's true the squad is young, with potential. I'd be inclined to give him a little more time...

We've waited all season for the CB issue to be sorted, and longer than that for a quality striker.

Too much being read into that, just a public showing of support for human, as for mcnulty he was shite tonight, when Davies came on he showed what a centre forward is supposed to do

THe failure to swallow his pride and play Collins cost us a place in the play off final.

Collins has had several good seasons with us. I've liked him. But let's please not elevate his abilities to a level they shouldn't be. The Collins of this season has been poorer than the Collins of the past - you would assume primarily because a key part of his game was the understanding he had with Maguire. Collins was, as I recall, a problem that most (myself included) were keen for Clough to fix back in the autumn. He could quite easily have played today and us still concede 5 goals. Indeed, that's what happened when he last played away at Swindon.

Just got to hope he won't fall out with the next round of new signings he makes. That's if he is still here.

Nobody knows what happened with Collins ,how do we know he told Clough he didn't want to play and just see his substantial contract out ,what would you think then ? I think its somewhere in between ,but Im only guessing.

One thing is for certain, Collins is a better centre half than both Alcock and McEveley!

That's not to say that playing him would solve all ourproblems, but playing players in their preferred position would be a help.

Good interview.

A couple of points 1) Knows what we need to do re CHs 2) Wants to play attacking football.

The proof of the pudding might be in the eating.

I do share the concerns about his treatment of McNulty. He went out of his way to criticise him.

I still think give him till Christmas. If it hasn't worked out by then we might be in Division 3 a very long time :tumbleweed:

I'd give him another crack. It's his 1st full season and in many ways he's suffered from it being our 4th and being so desperate to get up. He has failed but we've been here before and I think stability will pay off.

Stability is indeed good KON, provided the means are in place to sustain that stability. IMO United have not been any where near that position all season. Clough has few excuses, since he signed most of the squad, including those whom he apparently fell out with and didn't play. A certain lack of judgement there I think.

My doubts when Clough was appointed concerned his lack of hands on experience in the Third Division and his poor showing in getting teams promoted. I saw him as no more than a safe pair of hands, who was able to work within a low budget. Had he studied form. he should have realised that promoted teams generally had big nasty men at the core of their defence. It may not have been pretty to watch ,but sometimes needs must.

Throughout the season Nigel's brother, our chief scout ,must have had a rail card on the Glasgow Derby loop. oh yes and a trip or two to Blackpool thrown in. Whilst admiring the skills of players similar in stature to Messi, did he at any time consider that such vertically challenged players would be easy meat for the big lads at set pieces? Looking at the reviews I think not. Good little players, but not fit for purpose (getting us out of this league)

Whilst we persisted with Clough x2, Milton KD and our Toy Town friends have prospered, with managers who knew the standards of the leagues their teams were in and that knowledge has paid off.

Leopards changing spots and dogs learning new tricks. I don't think so. Sorry Nigel, you are too intransigent and if you stay around for next season. I can only see a repeat of this one.

Nigel is only human, just like the rest of us. No doubt it was emotionally draining the last few weeks. It is easy to say things that you may regret later under those circumstances.

I do feel that Nigel has a point, McNulty always looks good as a sub, but doesn't do enough during a whole game. However I do feel that it is better said behind closed doors. At the same time, Nigel has an extremely loyal following of players, which says to me that he is very fair to them. His support of Barker was extraordinary in football and really shows the measure of the man.

As for the much critisized scouting system, I think in Che, they did unearth a gem. Every time he comes on, I get excited as anything could happen. He may be raw, but he is certainly very talented.

I remember giving Warnock pelters back in 05. Never wanting him near the club etc etc. I learned my lesson as the following season he made me eat my words.

He may have been disappointed with McNulty tonight, but what's to be gained by publicly criticising him like that?
And if he wants to offload him can you imagine the negotiations "interested in your striker McNulty Nige". "You don't want him he's crap, oops I mean, give us £200,000 and he's yours".

Players clapped Clough, yeh and these Koreans were really grief stricken
