I went to watch Wednesday at Millwall last night. (yes yes yes, I've heard it all before - not a real fan, secret Owl, etc etc etc - my dad's a Wednesdayite and I don't buy into the pork/pigs/unclean/massive routine).

That aside, I watched two poor sides graft away with little quality until Wednesday ran away with it second half. I've seen them twice this year, against Millwall and Brentford. That's one relegation candidate, one mid table side and one promotion contender.

We really have very little to worry about. Millwall and Brentford both had a very good central midfielder, other than that none of the three sides had anyone who'd tear us apart. I know it's easy to say they cancel each other out, but I genuinely don't think it's a stretch to say we could beat any of them, particularly Wednesday and Millwall. Obviously not every time, but if we add a striker and a decent central midfielder (who may be Coutts, haven't seen him play), I think most of the squad can cut it in the games I've seen. I think the following could make the step up easily:

Howard
McEveley
Harris
Brayford
Baxter
Murphy
Campbell-Ryce (though maybe knocking on a bit)
Ben Davies
Basham

Fairly sure Done and Coutts are in there as well, but haven't seen them play yet. Kennedy and Reed will be ready I'm sure.

Come on lads, fire us up there and we'll be just fine.

Davies JCR and Baxter would be a worry and possibly McEveley in the Championship
We would need to strengthen the spine at least 1x CB maybe 2
And as you say a CM and at least 1x Striker maybe 2

Why are we already going on about next season. We haven't got a clue how this one will end yet.

As for going to watch them, sorry but you want fucking with a barbed wire brush. Dry.

Just crossed my mind as I was watching (scouting) for us last night.

Your last sentence is nonsensical!

Splintered broom handle.

Had the same feelings watching Derby v Forest a few months ago, if we could just get out of this league.

please refer to these "people" as ladypigs or pigsis :D

There's not really many in our squad Id fear for, maybe JCR and Higdon, and purely off past career McEveley. Obviously they'd need quality added, in the form of a dominant centre half, a fit wallace esque midfielder, and a forward, plus another winger for competition.

Weird that you posted this as I was going to post something very similar.

Went to watch Derby v Charlton last night and Charlton were absolutely awful, worse than any league one side I have seen this season but without the dirty cynicism to make it tough.

I honestly would not swap any of theirs for ours based on that last night.

Derby were fantastic going forward. They play almost the same system as us but their forwatd four of Bent, Lingaard and Ince out wide ang Hughes in the hole were just different class at times. Murph is the only one who would come close to them.

That said they looked cumbetsome and error prone at the back and it was only because Charlton were so shit they weren't punished.

So overall, apart from the front four for the SS who were a level above, there was nothing to fear. In fact the less aggressive styles would suit our game much more.

Take Baxter and Davies out ,put in Flynn ,Scougs ,McNulty and Doyle.

And watch them get the crap kicked out of them by the average Championship defence and midfield, all of whom are about 6 to 8 inches taller than they are and just as quick.

You have a point ,but all 4 have played well when we have played premier opposition
