Don't let Coutts become the new Basham

I have not heard one single person criticise Coutts. Strange OP but it's got a thousand likes!!
Plenty were having a go about him at County and last night. Must be the group of people I sit next to at away games. A few sarcasdtic cheers went up near me when he was subbed last night( only by a handful)

In effect they are abusing Coutts for every mistake he makes but not acknowledging when he does something well. Whilst certain players who were poor last night (for instance one player who just ran around without touching the ball) can do no wrong.

I find it bizarre that fans would chose to slag off a player during a game and as a earlier post mentioned ,the treatment of Higdon by some fans during the games is unbelievable.

Think he's one for the championship next season. Long injury and being pushed to play with knocks in the past few games. Get the play offs over and done with, win the final then get him rested ready for next season he'll do good and he will compare as well as Basham

Fucking hell, we are being promoted at the end of this season? You know this?

Glyn Hodges never looked fit, nor John Robertson, nor Garrincha for that matter. Paul McGrath never was fit when he played for us.

Quality footballers don't really need to run around like blue arsed flies as long as they are playing in the right positions in the right teams.

Clough has said Coutts isn't 100% fit yet. The big question is whether he ever will be due to his serious injury in 2013. The manager should come clean so that there is empathy and understanding for the lad if need be. And if he picks him as first choice it's the manager's responsibility.

coutts is a good footballer no doubt but in the last few games he has looked way off the pace.he doesnt seem to have a sprint in him and worse still keeps getting caught in possession and playing people hospital balls.it was no coincidence that we improved when he went off on saturday and at last night we were getting over run in midfield with doyle trying to do two mens work.

Two mens' work. Didn't we have five in midfield?

No dislike of him and certainly no hatred. But he has looked very unfit to me and has been pretty poor. If he's not fit, get him some reserve games, don't sacrifice the first team results for him. Yes so far our results have been good when he's played, but that doesn't mean they're down to him and it could end up costing us

Gives the team composure, always does the right thing and talks the others through it. Plays telepathically with Brayford.

By the way don't let this chatter about Basham and Coutts in the same breath in midfield confuse matters. One is a pedigree footballer fully skilled in midfield. The other is a central defender who fancies himself in midfield.

Think coutts has potential to be top draw but needs time, had to be subbed last night as looked knackered after 60 mins!

This, he's clearly lacking fitness and it showed yesterday.
I like Coutts but he can only last about an hour it seems. Pretty feeble (non-)attempt to close down the cross for their goal.

For the first part of the game though I thought he was excellent, and I'm genuinely puzzled why he gets any grief.

The signs are there that Coutts is a quality player, certainly at this level. However, against Coventry I got particularly frustrated by his lack of tracking around the half way line. The Coventry midfielders were making 5 yard runs past him as he was ambling about and that was contributing to our lack of control.

He's definitely worth persevering with given the length of his injury lay off but to suggest, as the OP seems to do, that he should be above criticism seems wrong to me.

You could always ask the fella stood behind me and my boy - old fan, been all over the place with United as he preceded to tell anyone in earshot, but Coutts was shit.

Dear me..............

Wasn't it you telling us on Monday that the home crowd was full of moaners and this didn't happen at away games?

That was after a home game though Rev. After an away game it's the away support in the frame.

We have to have a weekly reminder (although it's been more or less daily this week) about how shit our support is (except those on here who are brilliant but just surrounded by morons).
Twas always so. When we had poor crowds those bastards that didn't show were the problem, when crowds got big the "glory seekers" were spoiling it and we wanted smaller crowds back, now we are all sat with cunts we don't like (although only Coops who tells us now and again he sits near/with Micalago has a genuine case :) probably), and we all know every player not carried shoulder high from the field has been a scapegoat (sic) that day. Not to mention those bloody women and pesky kids that ruin it for us all, oh and having those fucking stupid people who want to sit in their seats.
Not even got on to "so called fans" but hey there's still a couple of days till the next moanfest (sorry I mean game).

All fascinating stuff, people moaning about people moaning and then me moaning at the moaners moaning.
Makes me glad to get home, at least the wife only moans 85% of the time.

Dear Rev and Grecian,

Congratulations! Your applications for membership of the all new "some of our fans on here/certain fans on here" club has been approved. As an added bonus, your applications for the "Why can't everybody be like me" club have been moved up to Level 3

you are indeed correct.

For the past 5 years I have sat all over Westfield but mainly in South Stand - every game, different seats seeing as the season ticket I have has no spare seats round it and I want to sit next to my boy. Consequently the moaning from SS happens all over the stand, hence the reason I commented - and if I had to put an age on people - nearly all are older fans.
Normally at away grounds the standard of support is much better - just happened to have one Tuesday evening. Fortunately there were some spare seats so could at times shuffle along a bit - easy when you are all stood up.

I did post earlier, that it is better at away grounds - which it normally is but there are still some who want to give it constant chapter and verse. The only rest was at HT when he went for a piss. Seems a shame, everything else at R'dale was good. Have a few Blades mates who are great in a pub, wouldn't dream of watching a game of football with them - some just seem real Jekyll and Hyde.

It has been noted that Coutts is coming under a certain amount of criticism from certain quarters.

For one who has defended Basham from game 1, some have already started criticising Coutts, but he needs some defending - we DO NOT need a new scapegoat.

FFS give this lad time to settle too - what is it with some people?

He does a job for the team - we are now much harder to beat and where before we have been soft, we aren't now. For all some know, he may have been carrying a slight injury and playing through it. He had a groin injury on Saturday and looks like he played with it last night. His movement looks difficult at times but he may be "managing" his problem. Clough thinks highly enough of him to still play the lad.

Don't forget he only came back Sept/Oct 2014 after a year out with a serious knee cap injury - that in itself could be having a knock on effect.

Just give the NEW lad a chance.

Loads of people that sit near me whinge about him claiming he's not good enough. I'm impressed with him so far. He is great on the right with Brayford but I wouldn't have expected him out there. His physique suggests he's a box-to-box CM.

Like him so far

Bloody hell, only 85%. Where did you find that one? Mail order bride?;)

He played with Brayford on the right for one of Derby's big seasons.

He doesn't always do the right thing. I saw him lose possession numerous times against Coventry.

True. Should have read "always tries to do the right thing", no he's not Superman by any means.

Jehovah witnessed it anyway!!:)

Appreciate you saying that - strange how some perceive a footballers merits.

He is nothing spectacular going forward, but that doesn't seem to be his game.

Not too sure what some fans expect.

some supporters fulwood dont understand what fitness means to a player coutts has done remarkably well to play so many games in a short space of time he is feeling it during games and that means he has to come off he is also carrying a slight groin problem according to cloughy.some dont realise how much effort goes into games today and 2 games a week
on the back of very limited game time this season shows he is up for it and obviously cloughy rates him .I can see coutts and james wallace when fit forming part of an awesome midfield might be next season before we see it flourish but i for one
look forward to that happening in the mean time lets see if we can make up the ground to challenge for automatic its a tall order as the top four are all having a great season but to come good late on has happened before ime sure we all know who i mean
