I wouldn't do em in that order. You could spend more time walking than drinking ;-)
That's just the pubs, haven't worked out the order yet.
To save me the hassle and to take advantage of local knowledge, what woukd be rhe recommended sequence?

Subject of Beer.

I love real ale. What I was brought up on was Sam Smiths and Tetleys. Reliable cool and smooth it didn't taste too hoppy. I'm a 50 year old Yorkshireman. What passes for real ale now is unpredictable home brew that tastes of soil. I think its what youngish monied 'entrepreneurs' have brought with them from London when they quit their jobs 'in the city', flogged their flats and upsized in South Yorks.

In Sheffield its ubiquitous, from the family that brought you A4e for God's sake.

Too many different beers on in a pub, they can't all be fresh now can they? that was the rule of thumb back in the day and it still stands. I love real ale so when in Sheffield I tend to stick to lager.

I've just wet myself - "What I was brought up on was Sam Smiths ". Sam fucking Smiths - that's why you like Lager, you've had your entire internal tract removed :)

Sam Smiths is still little over £1.30 a pint in a pub near me. And that's still 50% too expensive.

I think the club are missing an opportunity here. Remember the old social club? (its the museum now young uns).
Used to be packed before a game and must have took a fair few £s. I know theres the Tunnel Bar but the only time I have been in it wasn't very populated. Due to it not being that big it must have limited turnover.
Easy solution for me would be to stick the legends display in the bar area and reopen the social club.
Screens could show any live football or Blades matches.
Entrance gained by producing your season/membership card.

I used to like the over 30s club on Monday too :)

Well, that's me setting off on the long road to Sheffield.
I hope all these pub recommendations are up to scratch! :D

Pub crawl from the station, on an almost direct route to the ground

Sheffield Tap
The Howard
Rutland
Lord Nelson AKA Fanny's
Moorfoot (if it's still open)
Scholar
Crown
Bell Jar
Cremorne

Then

Golden Lion / Railway
or Sportsman / Cricketers

The Howard's an away fan's pub. Lord Nelson is closed down, AFAIK. Same with the Sportsman, such a shame, I loved that on a match day.

I'll probz be in the Royal Standard for a quick one before the game tonight if I can get off early, then back there again after't game.

I think The Moorfoot is now a Mexican restaurant - Arriba!

I've already been down to the stadium to get my ticket and suss out where exactly the pubs are.
Looks like I'll be doing Rutland, Red Lion, Sheaf Island, Cremorne and lastly the Golden Lion before kick off.
Does that seem fair enough if
I'm staying up at the top of the city centre?
Also, where is likely to have a bit of atmosphere (blades fans-wise) after the game given it's a Tuesday night.
No point in me travelling all this way to go home to bed at 9.30!

Surprised the Sportsman is closed. It's always rammed on matchdays and there's a big new student development nearby too

Thought I'd bump this thread of mine from last year as I'm hoping to travel down on Wednesday if I get a ticket.

Any pubs that should be added to or removed from those mentioned for any reason?

Also, what's the script with police cordons around the stadium for a big game such as this? Last time I was in the Golden Lion pre and post match but was wondering if it will be a difficult manoeuvre to/from there if I'm in the Kop given the large away support that will be there (last time I was there was a Brentford game and everyone was able to come and go as they pleased).

Finally, what pubs will the Spurs fans likely be in, thus avoided?

Cheers for any info.

I seem to recall The Cricketers (if that is indeed the pub I was in last time) being rather 'rough and ready'.
The barman wasn't impressed with the sight of a Bank of Scotland £20 note either.
Apologies if I'm doing the place a disservice!

Pay the players with them these days.

Jaipur is always on at The Stag as its a Thornbridge pub and not too far away and loads of parking nearby. Has about five other thornbridge ales too.

Best current crawl is the Heeley area, White Lion, Sheaf View and the old Shakespeare that has been renamed as Brothers Arms. All decent beer, fair bit of room and in Blades land. Does a range of real ale and decent lager for the kids and wimmin. I'm told they even do wine.

Post match get a cab to kelham island and do the superb real ale collection round there.

Rutland arms for best chip butty in a pub and decent cider for the farmers amd infants.

Sheffield is real ale Mecca, though I'd swop it all to have Wards back....

London Rd is still the classic pre-match pub crawl but is much less popular these days. Still, there are five or six pubs starting with the Scholar and ending in the Cremourne, Golden Lion, Railway or Cricketers. Delany's by the Lansdowne flats is now closed. Last I heard, the Sportsman was closed and the Cricketers and Railway were open. There's also a new studenty bar near the Sportsman.

Whats the International bar inside the lane like? Is it open to all fans or just season ticket holders? Thanks

All fans, I believe. I've been in a few times and not been asked for anything. It's not bad, being able to see inside the ground.

It's a nice bar, open to anyone with a matchday ticket although ive never been asked to show mine. Beer is limited and quite expensive- £3.50- £4 a pint and queues can be long, but theres decent surroundings and they occasionally have a guest in to speak or do some sort of competition (last time I was in it was George Long)

*the guest speaker not the prize

Have you been past Bergs? I would mourn the passing of most pubs, but my god that was shite.

UTB

No, never been in there. What was wrong with it? We spent some time in Delaney's last year, thought that was nice, but it's closed down now as well.
