It's harder to break through when you're not good enough. His attitude was spot on and that will do him well at a lower level.

All the best Joe.
McNulty shows that it's still hard when you are...

All the best to him. It's a shame he didn't quite make the step up but he'll always be part of one of the best academy sides we've ever had.

More than anything, I regret the passing of a good old fashioned footballer's name.

However good they are, Jamal, Diego, Jose, Che and even Jay just don't cut the monicker mustard for me. Florent makes me shudder, but at least he has the excuse of not being from these parts.

Don't panic. We still have Bob Harris.

Yeah, I think he's moved on... was always on the cards. Hope he can get an extended run in the side with them eventually to show what he can do. I'm guessing it's hard to break through as a young striker with little time on the field when goals are expected of you.

He's had plenty of time on plenty of fields. Just how much evidence do parochial Bladey Blades need before they realise 'one of the lads' is not very good?

He's reached his level (at best).

Are you seriously suggesting we have made an error in offloading Joe Ironside? If so, on what basis?
No, I'm not. It's probably right for both parties that he moved on. I just don't think that you can fully judge what a player's ability is or what they could become in the future based on a small amount of (mainly substitute) appearances for several different clubs.

I just hope he can manage to make a professional career out of football, that's all.

I saw some potential in him when he played with his back to goal. Strong for his age, committed and capable of holding the ball. But facing goal he looked bereft of the necessary quality.

Wonder if he'll find a niche elsewhere on the pitch.

I like some of your one liners pinchy, and some of the words you make up are also quite decent, but what i can't understand is why you seem to think that every youngster we have, especially the ones that don't make it at BDTBL are always shite. It must be the bladey bladeness inside you eh;)

Wiz,

I don't think they are all shite. I think young Lewis is outstanding. I also liked the look of DiMaio last season and was pleasantly surprised by Terry Kennedy's performance last match. I haven't given up on Diego yet either, but he needs to realise that he plays for United; not the other way round.

What irks me is the Bladey Blade notion that all our young players need is a 'run in the team' and they'll be fine. Nonsense. It's up to them to earn a 'run' by performing with excellence at u18 and u21 levels. I wrote off Ironside, McFadzean and Whitehouse some time ago. History will prove me right. Poor players are just poor young players, grown up.

Just to add fuel to the fire: George Long won't make it either!

Fair enough mate!

I think it's also fair to say that alot of our fans,me included, want our young homegrown players to develop,it's just unlucky that Joe's effort and workrate can't make up for the lack of talent to play for us.Some of our youngsters including Reed need more of a chance,if they were to get it i'm pretty confident we'd be higher up the league.

Our fans love an homegrown bit of quality.

Yes mate; I'm one of them! You can't force it though. There comes a time when you have to say "Sorry young Blade, you're not quite up to it." We can't give all youth players extended 'runs' in the first team just to see if they are good enough. We've got football matches to win! It really is up to youngsters to say 'pick me' by excelling at their own level and in training.

Quality does shine through. I don't think Lewis Reed needs any more 'chances'. He's taken the one he's had with both hands. It's pretty clear to me that NC rates him very highly. He's not starting every game, of course but he's still only 17. That's his next challenge. Football is a test of character as well as talent. Are you listening, Diego?....Its not too late.
