How about 4---5---1,, 4-5-1 to the Manfredd Man song 5-4-3-2-1.

Onward onward roared the Clough Army,
4-5-1, 5-1.
Down the pitch from the back they thundered,
4-5-1, 5-1.
Who was the man, the man who scored goals?
4-5-1, 5-1.
HaHa, it was McNulty

4---5----1,4-5-1.

 I need a rest!

Still think MK Dons were a class above PNE in the anti-football stakes. Thankfully we scored first yesterday and forced them to open up a bit. Imagine if PNE has gotten a goal to defend... The mind boggles.

Grayson simply must instruct his team to stop any play advancing through the middle of the park. Only when players got booked did they decline to foul.

We did seem to get away with two fouls that the ref played on for, but in the context of the whole game PNE got exactly what they deserved. And when they did get forward it was incredibly crude long ball stuff.
Yes JD, definitely agree that MK were even worse than PNE. That game was bizarre. Thought MK started brightly and then, for some reason, it turned to pantomime, before they'd scored as well.
PNE set their stall out from the start. I thought their number 19? Welsh had been booked just before he got subbed, but apparently not. He got away with 2 awful challenges in the first half..Though thankfully they didn't take the opportunity to take out Murphy, before he set up JCR.
I'd had a look on one of the PNE forums after the cup draw. One of their fans was concerned about playing us and getting injuries because we "are very, very physical"..I know we've all got some daft fans, but that comment made me :).
Just to add, a proper team performance, but I had Doyle as MoM, my Dad had Flynny..If Doyle had taken that chance, I reckon for the first time in ages, we would have agreed!...UTB

As a tribute to the late, and truly great, Joe Cocker and because the chorus would sound great pre-match:

Fire it Up!

If you're listening Jim (and Gary), give it a try for the rest of the season!

Fucking legend.

dirtiest team since PNE LAST SEASON - simple as - typical, typical, fucking typical Simon Grayson team.

If PNE fans want to put up with it, not a problem.

If they go up he will last 4 months in the Championship. If they don't go up he'll be out of a job in the summer.

UTB

It's a Simon Grayson team following on from a Graham Westley team. Which for Preston fans must be like ordering a vindaloo by mistake and then trying to change it by adding tabasco.

I'm not suprised they all appear to have issues.

Wow! They thought the ref was on our side? I think the ref did everything he possibly could to keep 11 v 11. A less lenient ref wouldve seen them down to 10 or 9.

They persistently targeted Doyle with their tactic of trying to get him to react. Unfortunately for them Doyle is a shy retiring wall flower nowadays... Though the tackle he made on around 80 mins for his booking certainly left it's mark.

I criticised doyles distribution last week but yesterday it was much better and he led by example with the rest of his game, protecting the fantastic Baxter allowing him to spray it about like a money shot on RedTube.

Credit to PNE's fans they brought a few and made a bit of noise. We typified the 'sing when you're winning' chant, not even rising to the ridicule from PNE fans until we scored.

I think PNE will hear and see a very different set of blades fans on 24th

I would love to see the state of Doyle's legs after the game. He took a hammering from Davies et al. (Incidentally the use of Baxter to influence play in front of the back four made Doyle look a much better player). I thought the ref could/should have booked earlier. The one thing that stood out was the way the PNE players persistently congregated around the ref challenging decisions. Even small ones. We only have Doyle who occasionally enquires. Given the number of under-nourished players we have and the number of teams who look to out-muscle us, we need to get more savvy about "making sure refs make the correct decisions."

Baby steps. Jose and Jam both had a go at carrying the ball away from a free kick and throwing it in the air in the first half and the ref did have to order a retake when we hadn't retreated sufficiently. Doyle decided to roll around after the umpteenth foul on him to help the ref use his yellow card. We're slowly learning the basics of all that nonsense.

Good point about Doyle and Baxter though; best performance I've seen from the pair in a while and Baxter did his defensive work very well.

Perhaps not harassing the ref helps make him a 'homer'?

The deliberate intimidation and harrasment of referees is a scourge of the game. On Saturday Kilkenny surpassed even the England captain by making it is business to be in his ear every hand and tyrn. On occasions he ran twenty yards just to shout in the refs ear. At times he was joined by up to 5 players to surround the official. Grayson is responsible for that type of team conduct and it reflects poorly on him.

The sad part of this issue is that it shows the sport in such a poor light. Discipline on the field and respect for officials is a fundamental requirement in any activity called sport, that is what sport is; if you are a "good sport" you are known to behave in a gentlemanly and fair manner.

The football authorities have recently shown themselves to be indecisive and poor leaders with the Ched affair. The lack of discipline on the field, indeed the blatant swearing at officials, should be so easy to eradicate if only the authorities would ask the refs to purge it out by issuing an edict of a zero tolerance policy and simply book every player who disrespects the referee. It's so obvious I feel I must be missing a point somewhere. Both rugby codes manage it in heavier contact sports so why do we have to put up with it. It embarrasses me to admit I'm a committed football supporter at times.

As for our team, yes we rate very highly on the "virtuous scale" ( in our opinion) and that must be down to the manager surely. Or is it just down to the personalities of each player and does it reflect a certain "softness" or "naivety" across our team? After all every team wants to play on a level playing field and our manager and his assistant do not hold back in the intimidation and public criticism of officials, far from it.

Totally agree with you about harassment of refs and I have benn saying exactly the same. It is all down to very poor leadership from Blatter down. This behaviour could be stamped out overnight. The problem is that the players (a lot of whom are overpaid and overrated) are now bigger than the game.

That's all well and good but when Doyle gets the treatment he did on Saturday and doesn't get any protection something has to be done.

It is one thing we can take from Rugby - only the captain and a player the ref wants to speak to are allowed to have a conversation with the ref.

On a side note, I do recall, quite recently, many of our fans saying "Preston have signed Beckford! Why aren't we in for him?" You have your answer.

Davies is washed up and Ewanks-Blake is fatter than Higdon.

Without Garner, watch Preson slide.

The thing is Pinchy. When you get to a certain age, the years fly by without even noticing. For that reason people still think Tonge, Kenny, Brown, Ebanks-Blake, Beckford etc.. are all still quality players.

It's 8 years since Beckford burst onto the scene at Leeds scoring for fun in League 1. He left them 5yrs ago and has scored 34 goals since then. However you want to look at it that is 6.8 goals a year.

I quite like the Star Wars music .....

I absolutely love star wars. So much so I've watched the new trailer about 10 times and am counting down the days to it's release in December... However, The Star Wars theme tune played for our entrance is soooooo cringe worthy it is untrue.

Ebanks-Blake... Just checked his record. 24 goals since the 2009/10 season. That's 4.8 goals a season.

In that time

Michael Higdon has scored 74.
Marc McNulty 49
Jamie Murphy 41

Midfielder Jose Baxter 27 and wait for it.... Chris Porter 25!

Didn't we experiment with Rage Against The Machine a few years ago ?

Wasn't Star Wars famously Warnock's choice, or am I misremembering that too ?

Suggest doing away with music entirely except when the teams are going off for HT and FT, when the music might reflect the performance. Perm from: Keystone Kops theme, Benny Hill music, anything routinely played at donkey derbies, Something's Gone Wrong Again (Buzzcocks), Bastard (Motorhead, for the ref obviously), Trapped Under Ice (Metallica, for the fans), Making Plans for (Sir) Nigel (XTC, when we win the lg cup and go up through the play offs). Etc.

What makes me laugh is everyone sags the star wars intro off and then come out with even more absurd suggestions themselves

How about the theme from the Benny Hill Show. At least we would get a smile from some of the miserable fuckers on here :).
