Still think MK Dons were a class above PNE in the anti-football stakes. Thankfully we scored first yesterday and forced them to open up a bit. Imagine if PNE has gotten a goal to defend... The mind boggles.

Grayson simply must instruct his team to stop any play advancing through the middle of the park. Only when players got booked did they decline to foul.

We did seem to get away with two fouls that the ref played on for, but in the context of the whole game PNE got exactly what they deserved. And when they did get forward it was incredibly crude long ball stuff.

You are correct - they were. But fair do to Karl Robinson, he did offer a vague apology afterwards and I reckon he made the team be negative in just that game because of the high regard he gives us. They came and did a job on us. It's our turn to do a 4-5-1, cup style performance next week and get our own back - difference is, we will do it playing..........football.

PNE do it every game - it's in Grayson's DNA.

"North End have the best fans in the league"

Yes, it would appear they are the best in the league at being bitter. There have been very few visiting supporters this season to rival them in that department.

A couple of points:

One of their fans calls for the sacking of Grayson despite him building a consistent team with a real chance of going up. Did he prefer the reign of the "medal winner" Westley?

That was a typical Grayson team. Big, functional, plays percentages, "competitive" but with a remit that a foul is ok if your tackle misses. Not my cup of tea but meets the hard work and not being rolled over demands of most fans whilst leaving you short in terms of flair. I wouldn't have minded him taking us up like that rather than fester for four years in this league and I think a lot of our fans would embrace a tough team.

I didn't think the ref was a homer. Inconsistent at times like most but there was persistent fouling that made it hard to manage.

I thought it was good that we had enough about us not to get rolled over by such a team and showed some good spirit.

I too was amused by the drop ball that Foxy referred to. What a dick doing that when they were losing.

We changed it and people did not like it. So we stuck with something no one likes.
I don't hate it, I forget it's even played, but when new fans and away fans pick us up on it I am a bit snookered.
You'd think united would put things like that to a vote. Meh, still better than Z-cars at Everton I suppose

Preston were very fortunate to finish with more than nine men. They were a thoroughly nasty, unpleasant bunch.

Personally, I would sooner embrace a slug.

I really don't care what supporters of other clubs think about any of the music we play. It's our ground and we'll play what we want. If it annoys them, tough!.

I don't want to change it for them, I said when they pick us up on it(as in ask us what sheffield united has to do with a nerdy sci fi film) then I start to question it myself.
Like I said, I don't hate it, just wish we had something more relevant.

Somebody said in another thread that he could hear Tom Finney turning in his grave. Such a shame that a club with the pedigree of Preston are now nothing more than a team of cloggers and tired old journeymen. Davies was a disgrace and twice could have broken legs with lazy late challenges. Beckford and Kilkenny seemed more intent on trying to referee the game than play football. Their best player, no 7, was substituted by the genius that is Grayson.
kilkenny was having a spat with the linesman late on in the closing stages of the game

As a tribute to the late, and truly great, Joe Cocker and because the chorus would sound great pre-match:

Fire it Up!

If you're listening Jim (and Gary), give it a try for the rest of the season!

I like Z cars and Glad All Over .

I like Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath. The opening chords to that song sound nicely threatening and doom laden. Played at a nice deafeningly high volume it might help create a disconcertingly hostile environment for the opposition!

However, can't see it ever being used by us, so in it's absence Star Wars is as good or naff as anything else and if it annoys or irritates the opposition so much the better.

Not sure 21 fouls was a mistake and I am surprised they only ended up getting 4 bookings.

They didn't seem like they were in the game in the second half.

Although their fans do see things through PNE specs.

I think 21 fouls was a counting error. I would suggest they committed 21+ fouls just in the first half !!! They were similar to MKD, big, dirty, cynical but also whinging at the referee every time they conceded a foul.

Their comment about the "ref being a homer" made me piss myself laughing ........ we haven't had a "homer" since the home game vs Exeter City in the 4th Division !!! Personally, trying to be as objective as possible, I thought that the referee was shite & weak and a decent referee would have certainly issued several more bookings to them and they would have finished the game a couple of players light. Every time Davies laid down he gave a foul and how their No 19 remained on the pitch is amazing. Doyle was "targeted " quite deliberately and received about 5 "yellow card fouls" from their thugs.

The fact that they are obviously used to getting away with that thuggery every week, evidences how thoroughly crap the refereeing is in this Division. No wonder NC was fuming ........ he was expecting to need stretchers for his players ........

What did one fan say? " we'll have to stop being so nice" !!!!!

Such is the nature of a supporter's mind, perspective, call it bias, whatever. The fan maybe even believes it.

Yesterday Preston's approach to the game was aggressive, ruthless and downright nasty. Thuggish in the tackles and unrelenting intimidation of the referee, Kilkenny being seriously the worst ever for being in the ref's ear and up to 5 at a time demanding cards for Doyle time after time for doing nothing like they were up to. It was like the bad old days of Leeds under Revie, Wimbledon under Bassett and SWFC that fateful day we drew 2-2 - thugs on a mission. Shame on Grayson and I thought he was a good sort of Tyke.

On Ilkla Moor Baht ‘at' would be good wouldn't it?
