BILLY Sharp could make a sensational return to Bramall Lane next season after it was claimed that Sheffield United have been monitoring their former reserve-team striker's progress at Glanford Park.

Sources at the League One leaders have indicated that Neil Warnock's side made discreet enquiries about the 21-year-old's availability earlier this season - 19 months after allowing him to leave South Yorkshire - raising the possibility that Sharp could be offered the chance to realise his dream of a forging a career at the club he supported as a boy.

no dont think warnock would do it.also would he cut it in the prem big difference between the prem and league one
 
I'd love to see him back here. Although it's a bit of a gamble as RB says, is it anywhere near as big a gamble as CKR was?
 
Yeh gmable a fan of the club aswell love to see hoem grown players :)

Not in a million years, warnock doesnt work like that.

Although id like to see him back, a gamble worth taking IMO.

When Warnock let him go in the first place i wasn't that bothered because i didn't think much of him. But since he has left he has come on in leaps and bounds, would like to see him back.

He said at the time that it could turn out to look like a mistake.

I've said it a million times, it wasn't a case of "letting him go" it was a case of not being able to guarentee or offer him first team football (which is what he wanted).

Many times, its just not the in thing to comment on it or praise him for it.
 
Agreed Foxy, Warnock has stated previously he didn't want him to go.

And that's why there was a clause put in his contract that we could have first option on him.
 
Well it was letting him go really, there was no pressure to sell the lad.

Why not just loan him out to scunny instead of selling him?

Because he had 1 year left on his contract.......

He didn't want to be loaned, he wanted the security of a decent length contract WITH the guarentee of first team football. Very sensible of the lad.

At the time, we had 4 or 5 strikers above him in the pecking order, of which a couple of them were in decent form.

So we didn't play him, sold him and still got promoted, and on course for staying up too.

How has he made a mistake?

We might buy him back for a larger sum, but it still doesn't mean it was a mistake.
 
If he does come back to the Lane, then all well and good. I think he'll have a point to prove and will try his damnedest to score goals for us. He is a Blades fan after all. If he doesn't sign for us then good luck to the lad. Personally I think it would be great for us to have a player with his love for United playing for us, but loving the club doesn't make a great player. I love United, and I'm both too old and too crap to play for us.:D :D :D

We didnt get promoted the season we sold himt hough, we were awful that season.

He made a mistake because he was the only person who thought Ashley ward and danny cadermarteri deserved a chance over a young lad who had broken all goalscoring records in every age group he'd been in.

The selling him part isnt the big deal, its the fact that he was never given a chance, and yes i know he was only 17/18. My nan was better than ward or cadermarteri.

Yes we did, but it was right before the start of the season though.

Im pretty sure it wasnt, we sold him right at the end of the 04-05 season not near the start of the 05-06 season.

Anyway thats it, no more talk of billy sharp from me. Last post on him.

He signed for Scunny on 16-08-2005, 3 games into the 05-06 season, us having already scored 7 goals.

Ashley Ward had retired 3 months before and Danny Cademarteri had left over 2 months before.

But don't let facts get in the way of a good character assasination and moan.
