Manager Robinson has been there a few years and has a reputation for playing the game the proper way. Over the years at MKD his record might be viewed as "promising but needs to win something".

Last season MKD finished 10th, 7 points behind us.

In the summer Robinson signed the following players:

McFadzean* from Crawley, Green* from Charlton, Grigg* on loan from Brentford, Spence* loan from West Ham, Baker* from Coventry, Randall from Ascoli (ex- Arsenal) Hitchcock QPR, Carruthers Villa, Afobe* loan from Arsenal.

Yesterday they beat Colchester 6-0 and the asterisked men played. Afobe scored 3.

Their last 10 game results were W yesterday DWWWL(us)DWDL.

There is optimism because recent crowds are well on the up compared to previous seasons: 7646, 6720, 12007, 9494.

After doing this research I wondered about our signings since the summer. Yesterday the following didn't play: Alcock, Wallace, Davies, McGahey, Butler, Porter, O'Grady,

The following did play: Basham, McEveley, Ryce, Higdon, McCarthy.

My main deduction is that MKD did much better business in the transfer market than we did. They signed two quality strikers and a seasoned, quality centre half ( who is a Blade), they also signed players with pedigrees. Baker ( ex- Coventry) is one of the stand out players I've seen in past years in League 1. Three big signings are only on loan but that is a valid way to spend a wage budget, it's all about balance.

Out of interest have any of our signings got a "pedigree"? by that I mean time served or development with a Premier League club or a quality environment.

MKD are in form and 3 points in front of us with a game in hand. Of course that is not irrecoverable but we must not lose on Tuesday, they are one of our main rivals. 4-5-1 will be justified on this occasion Nigel!

Correction: Spence is not on loan he signed a permanent deal.
 
We could quite easily get something or everything against MK Dons. That's just how football goes.

The obvious thing to take away from your post is that whilst MK Dons have brought in players who all boost the first team, we've brought in a collection of squad players with some starting but not being that much better than the rest of the squad.
 
You are right Woodwardfan Robinson made the best signings this summer he has ever made, it's the strongest side I've seen us have, we always had one good player for each position but struggled in previous seasons as soon as one got injured, this season we have an equally strong player for each position.
On the loan front I think the club learnt from Bamford and wrote in an no call back clause into the deal with Grigg and Afobe.
The only place we are weak is at the back, but you know this from the game in the capital 1 cup. I predict 1-1 on Tuesday.
Gutted it's now on a Tuesday I wanted to go to this one.:(
 
Here's a thought... The MK Dons signings and loans include players from Premiership teams and probably from Premiership Academies. Ours in the main are not.

They also seem geographically concentrated from within an hour of MK, so the players would not have to uproot in order to get to MK. That makes a loan better for the player ( can still play Xbox with his mates and have tea with Mum) and for the loaning club (as the player is not being tempted by the harlots of the Northern wastelands on those cold Winter Thursdays)

Finally, opportunities.. If we can't offer our own bright sparks a real chance, in Diego and Louis, then would a loan or signing to the bench appeal to both loaning player and club?

So, a question of strategy again. Which nearby Premiership teams and Academies have we developed links with in order to offer opportunities for players like Afobe? And what would our policy be on them playing?
 
actually if we beat them tuesday we go above them , so our signings will be doing better
weve played 2 in form teams at home oldham who ripped rochdale a new arsehole yesteraday and notts county on a great run
they beat a fast fading 10 man colchester
 
I must admit that when I saw the score yesterday I was a bit worried. Especially as we can't seem to score more than a single goal in 90 mins.

But fear not. We are much better than Colchester. They probably conceded most of their goals while chasing the game and pressing forward, and left gaps at the back. We're not going to concede the first goal at home against MK, are we?.

Manager Robinson has been given time . Why , because there expectations are not as high as ours . Unfortunately , it does appear that a number of clubs do have a better relationship than our management team in League 1 , when it comes to player recruitment .

It does seem that the only guy to help us out is Mr Warnock in the premiership , and he his Billy no mates. We do seem to miss a trick on player recruitment under Mr Clough brother. Also lets give our young lads a chance , even if only on the bench.

If MK Dons do not get promotion this season , then they never will .

The Blades need to give someone a good spanking score wise . Lets hope its MK Dons on Tuesday.

Not going to happen. I don't know where this notion that 'one of these days we'll give a team a good pounding' has come from (not that you are suggesting that). We haven't once looked like doing so, don't have the ruthless/clinical mentality to do so, and have indeed only scored more than 2 goals on one occasion in 26 games so far this season. Not that I'm suggesting we should fear getting beaten, indeed in those 26 games we have lost only 6, but there is nothing to suggest that we'll put any team to the sword any time soon.

I think you suffer from Cloughitus. There is no need to overthink this. Generally we have a better team and squad than most so let's try and win some games from the get go.

Paul. Thanks very much for your visits to our forum. We always welcome serious contributions from opposition fans and your comments have been interesting.

Let's hope for a great match on Tuesday and may the best team win. Regardless of the result both our teams will be "in the mix" at the end of the season. Any points will be useful and you just might be playing us at a good time, then again who knows?

I'm 37 and wanted my 2 boys to support a local team they are 7 and 10, so I started going about 4 yrs ago and I got hooked on live football.
I have been an armchair Liverpool fan since I was a kid and still am, but can never get tickets live and it's not exactly close.
I now go to away games without the kids but with mates and love away days the most.

Well done for supporting your local team, Paul.

I know we won't but I hope we win 4-0 on Tuesday and you are thoroughly miserable :D nothing personal - just need to win vs rivals and get some confidence with the goal scoring.

Haven't once looked like caning someone?
At least three times this season we have had 20+ shots on goal, several times hit woodwork more than twice, had innumerable pens turned down, had quite a lot cleared off the line and yet you say we have never looked like spanking someone.
Yes we need to be more clinical and a decent striker but to say we haven't looked like scoring more than one or two is ludicrous, and if /when we do beat someone heavily I think it will allow the team to play with more confidence.
