Excellent, he handled that superbly. To be fair to Giddings, his job is to ask difficult questions but Nigel answered them all without losing his rag or resorting to sarcasm.

As you say, I would have found that very difficult.

I'm now glad he was the one that had to answer questions because he did so well but it shouldn't have been him in the firing line. When someone collars one of our Board members, and they will, I hope they do as well.

One thing I did detect is that this is a real distraction from his proper job.

There's a long way to go on this story yet unfortunately.

Bit harsh, I'd be pretty pleased to win it, can only benefit the team's confidence to lift a trophy as well. Let's be honest it's the likeliest chance we'll have to win silverware any time soon. Also you say it's a small clubs competition but Southampton and Swansea both won it on their way up.

Don't get me wrong, it's not the Champions League and I wouldn't want us to sacrifice league form for it, but I've never seen United win anything so I certainly wouldn't feel 'embarrassed' about it.

Listening to Clough just reaffirms the calibre of the man. Didn't swerve or shirk on any questions, offered a few nuanced responses that confirm his overall awareness of what matters, what players need to be aware of, and what the club's responsibilities and priorities are.

Isn't it a pity that Giddings doesn't take his duties of "investigative journalism" so seriously when he interviews Board members from the Lane. He doesn't press points and dig in with tricky questions then.

The additional games and the risk of injury outweigh any "glory" that comes with winning this competition imo

Can I just say that I find the calling of our manager "Gaffer" annoying in the extreme. Pointless term that managers like to call themselves because they're thick fuckers and it's one of the only methods of instilling perceived authority over the players.
Leave it to the likes of Cotterill and that bloke at Stevenage. They are gaffers, we have a manager/boss/supremo whatever.
