Bryan Robson once started a Sheffield Derby with one striker, lost, and was absolutely pilloried for being to negative and scared of playing attacking football.

Well today Nigel Clough started a local derby with NO strikers and lost. If he were Robson he would still be trapped in the building whilst the car park was seething.

How long is Nigel going to keep getting a free pass with theses negative tactics? Play Macnulty from the start FFS! he is the only Goalscorer we have, I know people are going to go on about the header he missed when he came on but it's no wonder his confidence may start to drop when his manager decides to opt for no strikers instead of him.

We are rapidly blowing the best chance we will have for the next two or three years of getting out of this League, I think it will be a much tougher league next season and there is a good chance we will have a weaker side as I Believe Murphy will not want to play another season at this level if he want ts to get in the Scotland national side reckoning.

Change of tactics especially at home is required before it's too late.

I shouldn't hold your breath for Macnulty starting, Clough has just singled him out for special criticism in his post match interview.

I am wondering if it's Clough who is in charge of Transfer policy down there he seems to sign players who he then doesn't seem to rate.

he is known for falling out with players maybe something has gone off behind scenes doubt it but possibility

I say sack him, there's loads of managers out there who have done it all and are guaranteed to get us up and on top of that I'm sure they're all just waiting for us to do them the honour of asking them to be our manager

What's he said about Macnulty?

He always has a pop at McNulty ,that may be how to get the best out of him ? He seems to praise players who play shit. Although he didn't play well today ,I think he should have started.

No ...lets give Clough a 10 year contract, never play a striker, never try to win a game and look forward to years of L1 midtable obscurity...

Not just the line-up today, whose idea was it to put in so many crosses to our imaginary Centre Forward? Maybe it was the players (especially Campbell-Ryce and Harris) who were at fault, maybe it came from the manager.

Said he played poorly when he came on and singled out the free header he missed, didn't mention that we didn't have a player on the pitch for 75 mins who even got into that sort of position.
i can't see how any player could be inspired by this constant sniping
i had a project manager who was always on my case no matter what i did. in the end i left..they couldn't believe it

and how does he get the best out of him when he doesn't play him?

I guarantee you, had Higdon been fit, Clough would've started with him. Higdon gets injured so Clough starts without a striker. What's that tell you?

6 - 4 - 0 at home is tactical ineptness. Should Clough be scared of playing at home against 3rd div opposition?

Shocking tactics that will cost us and is costing us

As for Clough continuing to berate MM, is frankly getting embarrassing. The lad has scored goals and will continue to score goals. To continue using him as a scapegoat for Clough's failings is unacceptable imo. So he missed a chance during his 30 minute yet again cameo role. All strikers miss chances. The key is to be in positions to take chances, whether tap-ins or otherwise.

If Clough has decided MM isn't good enough well I would argue he's had enough fkin time to sort out another striker, yet he continues to dilly-dally and fk about. Something I've witnessed all too often this season

Clough playing with two wingers and instructing those two, together with Harris and Alcock to bombard the box with cross after cross to just a 5' 3" Scougall is Clough's fault imo

Sorry Cloughie, but today you got it badly wrong. Take it on the chin, stop blaming everyone except yourself and fkin sort it out

Having a team that create chance after chance but has no one in the box to convert them is not going to get very far.

I don't think that we played particularly negatively, it was just so frustrating that there was no one in the middle to get on the end of crosses or to have that poachers instinct in the box.
That said, some of the crosses were absolutely woeful so even if we had 5 strikers in the box, they wouldn't have been able to get on the end of it.
I must admit I'm baffled by the fact that whenever Baxter ran towards the edge of the box, he persisted in pushing the ball out wide very time. What is the point when there is no striker? Why did he not try to drive into the box or shoot?
I'm all for retaining possession and trying to work an opening but sometimes you have to be a bit more direct. It's no suprise that we score late on and it's a striker that scores it.

I think we're in real danger of being swept in the derby games this year, the way we've played in the two so far.

Simple chance missed last week, simple header this week. Of course people will go on about him taking chances or not because that's his job. As for negative tactics, isn't it 16/17 games since we last scored. However I think we need a better striker than what we have now

However,I think NC did get it wrong after they scored today. They sat even deeper which negates anything Scougill tries to do and for me,he and JCR should have been off for Flynn and Porter leading to going more direct. Baxter could also have been replace by McNulty

Tuesday night Nigel and the blades are the best thing since slice bread, now we lose to dingles and we call for his neck. My bet is we were all set for today with higdon starting he does hammy and it all goes tits up that's football. Yes we need another striker that goes without saying but I am not sure what is out there as we need better than what we have or there is no point.

Get used to league one though because this board have no interest in investing in the team to get us up, that isn't Nigel's fault. We are spending money on the ground etc hoping to sell or get further investment.

I'm starting to get pissed off with Clough all the negatives that the Derby fans told us about are still there and any credit built up last season will soon be forgotten if Clough keeps on with this shit of 4-5-1 without a striker

Agreed he should start with McNulty. I know goals win games, and that's what Barnsley got, and fair play to 'em, but would you really want to watch the tripe that they played today. No football in them at all. Barnsley got lucky today or rather were lucky Nigel decides to play without a striker (must think we're Barcelona).

Bad day at the office.

I know Barnsley is meant to be a derby but it doesn't feel like it, both sets of fans were mute until the match kicked off then we had a bit of atmosphere, not much more. Didn't see a Barnsley fan before or after the match. Not much different to Wednesday in that respect. LOL

I was quite surprised to hear Clough single McNulty out for criticism during his post match interview; firstly because it is such an uncommon practice and secondly because I personally thought that he added an attacking impetuous that was missing until his arrival.

Clough clearly doesn't rate him or has a non-footballing related issue with him and as such i don't see him having much of a future at the club. I personally rate him highly and wouldn't be surprised to see him flourish at another club at this level...you know, one that plays with strikers.

McNulty made some very intelligent runs when he came on. He actually offered our midfield an outlet which had been lacking throughout the rest of the game.

Starting with no strikers is a joke.

It is all very well trying to justify our tactics by the fact that we have managed to scrape past a number of poor teams recently, but this division is shocking. We need to attack teams. Last season was immeasurably better than this. Why the stark contrast in tactics, Cloughie?

don't you know latters, everything is McNulty's fault. Clough said so himself!

Yes McNulty should have stopped Winnal scoring with a free header ;)
