Negative Nigel

Simple chance missed last week, simple header this week. Of course people will go on about him taking chances or not because that's his job. As for negative tactics, isn't it 16/17 games since we last scored. However I think we need a better striker than what we have now

However,I think NC did get it wrong after they scored today. They sat even deeper which negates anything Scougill tries to do and for me,he and JCR should have been off for Flynn and Porter leading to going more direct. Baxter could also have been replace by McNulty

That's the point there. He missed chances, all strikers miss chances. But he made chances, Baxter and everyone else didn't miss them because they didn't get in position to have them.

To be frank I think Clough got it wrong today but that happens to everyone at one time or another. I reckon Higdon (Who would of scored of that header in my opinion) was due to start and his injury sent Clough's plans into a bit of a tizzy. He clearly does not rate McNulty for whatever reason and I think another striker will be on his way shortly (read into that what you will). For the record I believe we we're marginally the better team, but Barnsley did defend very well and got the luck when they needed it.

Good assessment, although I think he does rate McNulty - just has a strange way of being honest with his statements. He needs MM to do some of the dirty work better. Thought MM ran the channels well today and his first touch was as usual very good.

Barnsley will play better and lose - we were a tad unfortunate in front of goal and one incident in particular when Baxter tried to feed a ball across the kop goal for Murph at the far post - FFS Baxter..........fucking shoot man!!!

Don't forget mcnulty was taken off injured at mk and didn't train so may not have been fit to start today. Clough obviously does rate him. He paid dosh for him and he has made a big leap from Scotland so maybe he is just keeping his feet on the ground . He will know mcnutts temperament better than us.

Yeah, thought Baxter had his moments and played some intelligent passes but he was poor for the most part. I always get the impression that McNulty is a natural goal scorer and his movement is very good indeed. And actually for the most part we defended very well, unfortunately we fell asleep at a corner and lost the game.

Tuesday night Nigel and the blades are the best thing since slice bread, now we lose to dingles and we call for his neck. My bet is we were all set for today with higdon starting he does hammy and it all goes tits up that's football. Yes we need another striker that goes without saying but I am not sure what is out there as we need better than what we have or there is no point.

Get used to league one though because this board have no interest in investing in the team to get us up, that isn't Nigel's fault. We are spending money on the ground etc hoping to sell or get further investment.

Your right David, I was expecting Higdon to start today until he got injured but why not then start with our other recognised striker?. Regarding the board investing in a striker, nothing is going to happen until this fucking board man up and make a decision one way or the other about you know who, because ultimately this is what it boils down to, but this saga is just going to drag on and on until the season will be nearly over.

One thing no one else has mentioned is how fucking lucky they were in and around there box

The ammount of times the ball ricocheted or bounced or span straight to one of their players was astounding i lost count

Suppose thats because of our players not anticipating but we are talking about twenty times at least

If you have a game plan that included playing Higdon, however he is injured just play Porter who is at least more similar to Higdon than McNulty. I am not sure if we have tactics or plan for other teams. The bullying of McNulty is nothing short of pathetic considering his age and moving a long way from home.

Getting a bit tired of being in this league and a bit more tired of excuses for not playing strikers at home.

.
Bullying ? All because the manager doesn't select a player to start for a match and says he needs to develop his all round game doesn't mean he is being bullied. Does that mean Collins and Butler are being bullied as well ?

He hasn't said anything about Collins or Butler, but he can't keep his mouth shut in putting McNuts down. Some people might call it man management, however I would imagine he might see better results if he did this in private. just a personal opinion.

He always has a pop at McNulty ,that may be how to get the best out of him ? He seems to praise players who play shit. Although he didn't play well today ,I think he should have started.
Apparently at half time when losing he picks on the worst player on the pitch and gives them a bollocking. This spurs the team on or something I'm told.

Reminds me of that bit in The Damned United book with his Dad at Derby, he stood each player up in turn and shouted something like 'Do you want me to lose my bloody job?' then listed what they'd done wrong during the game, bar one player (Hector or O'Hare if memory serves) who he said had played well.

With all the late goals we have scored this season, I reckon Plan B is a better bet than Plan A....and we all know what we do in the last phase of the game don't we chaps ??

Play with fucking strikers.

As i said in the Are We Spain thread . We try to be like Spain . We are under the Franco regime of Mr McCabe and Mr Prince . Commandant Mr Clough of the Franco Secret Police cannot abide Strikers . Strikers will bring the country and club to its knees . In the dark heart of BDBL , we have a link between the past andpresent , in a club scarred by infighting , civil war , still riven by fear , hatred , and still plagued by secrets that refuse to die. strikers are usually Commis or undesirables . In simple terms that is why we will not play strikers.

UTB.

Mr Clough is playing to a formation , which appears negative because we cannot score. We were not negative against Barnsley or today . It is a confidence issue and not having a striker .McNut was out today due to a fracas in a night club.

We desperately need a striker .

Wallace injured again from a box to box player.

Mental strength , shoot , pass , positioning is what a striker gives and is missing from day one.

At the moment we don't have one.

Higgy injured

McNuts facial injury in a fight

Cheque book out Mr McCabe , Mr Prince please , or from being a happy clapper i become a doubter. Sort it. stop pissing up supporters backs,

Hear everything you say but some of this is avoidable or at least you can build contingency for it.

Wallace : Known to be injury prone so not a shock he is out.

Higdon : Wasn't fit when he joined and hasn't been until he got sent off against Chesterfield. Sorry but if you don't have a plan B for that you aren't much of a manager.

Last sentence is the actual answer to all of this. I think Clough keeps his dignity but isn't being supported from the board. He isn't one to say it but I think it is crystal clear to anyone looking at it.

Bladesway . Agree and well put . The side issue is the saga in the background with the striker looking for a club after being released from Leyland FC . You are correct we have no plan B , but this evidently appears to be due to the lack of finance , backing ,from the board to Mr Clough . My worry is that he walks , which could be sooner rather than later .

It is as simple a a piece missing from a jigsaw. Waiting until January is too late .

That ruled McNulty out then. He only came on for the last 30 mins

Probably why McNulty felt the full force of Clough's slagging in the aftermatch interview

I didn't enjoy Clough's interview after the game today. He said something along the lines of 'we asked the players to keep a clean sheet and get into the hat for the next round, which they've done'. I'm sorry but if that's the height of ambition, keeping a clean sheet at Crewe, then it's no wonder we're not achieving what we should be, and why Clough is willing to settle for such an average squad.

I know some will say he's being positive, after all the result is not a disaster, but in my opinion the complacency has been there since pre-season and the standard currently being demanded is not high enough.

Did I hear Nigel say that our domination, control of games and the numerous goal scoring chances created has been due to the formation he has adopted. A formation that would be disturbed adversely if he moved to a 4-4-2 system?

On this basis is he thinking that at some point someone should get on the end of a cross, deflected shot, rebound etc? Then there is always the chance to score from a corner or free kick.

We should have scored in the last two games. But didn't. We desperately need at least one striker. Higdon and Mcnulty are now injured and out for weeks. Baxter is no striker and we are left with Murphy and Porter. Murphy is only a make shift centre forward and Porter limited.

I understand why the club can't tell us who they are in for, but the time has come for action, cheque book action, dare I say to take a gamble, push the boat out to get someone good in on loan for the season.

Come on Warnock lend us that young fella Dwight Gayle. He would be perfect. He can hitch a lift with Paddy on Saturday mornings.

HH

a very small very tiny part of me is hoping we go out of both cups quickly just so we don't use them as an excuse not to go for our number 1 target, which I thought was promotion. I love this division

We should have scored at least 1 goal yesterday but is Murphy expected to get on the end of his own cross or Baxter onto the end of his own through ball?
