Tom Cannon....again.

I have shared this video previously somewhere but these were the goals he scored whilst at Preston, a couple of tap ins (although one was a well timed header), he showed pace and strength and dribbling skills, it's strange why that has dropped, although he has shown the odd flair here and there.

Get the feeling the sum total of our scouting of cannon was wilder watching that video and going he looks ok

Tin hat time...last night he spent most of the with his back to goal, having it launched up to him, the difference being he's not Bamford. Yes he missed a chance but we don't often play to his strengths, which is running onto the ball.

I’m not really sure how many chances Cannon is entitled to expect, but he can’t have many left?
He’s on his way down the Brewster highway. He’ll show flashes, some will swear there’s a player in there, he’ll leave for free, score a couple in the first few weeks and the same fans will be saying “never should have let im leave”

He's slow.

We were noticeably less direct last night than we have been most of the season, presumably because it was Cannon and not Bamford or Ayew up top. That said, to the best of his ability he is now consistently challenging for headers and jumping well.

He just can't hold it up, which is a big problem.
Trying to justify Tom bloody Cannon is proper 'I'm the biggest blade' stuff.

He's complete guff.

He's had enough half decent performances and a handful of goals to say in January "oh we have to sell more of our best players to balance the books" and put Cannon on the list of best players we will sell at the right price.

Might trick someone into getting a few million back.

I think it's mental side of the game. He likely has the talent. Maybe not the brain or the mentality.

We can't waste another 2 years hoping he'll come good, make him available in January and put his feet and wages to better use, no doubt he'll start scoring at another club, but so be it

Watching the videos of him at PNE is night and day atm, but gaving said that how many other players have come to the Lane with a good stats and then it goes to ratshit

Hopefully he's scored enough goals in that brief spell earlier in the season for someone near the foot of the league but with a few quid - Burnley maybe? - to buy him in January based on his showreel

Good post, we've waited long enough and given him enough chances just like Brewster, it's not happened and is never going to happen, I've seen better players in our local leagues and tbh I don't know how he's made a ( professional footballer ) in brackets, Wilder needs to swallow his pride and get rid in January window.....

3 points on that for what it is worth.
Point 1) Do we do the same with Campbell as ultimately he hasn't scored this season and has had a poor injury record. The upside to Cannon, he has been apart from a couple of brief spells, been injury free and has been available for selection. Where as Campbell hasn't offered anything, Cannon has 4 this season so far, playing in a team that doesn't suit his style and he has set-up a few/being part of the build up, including on Tuesday.

Point 2) When you say get rid, we need a buyer first, Preston according to transfer rumours came close to signing him. But the offer has to be on the table, very much the same as McGuinness, it's great saying we need to get rid but if no bidders he won't be off anywhere.

Point 3) Say we got rid of Tom Cannon, and we make £3-5million, just a ball park estimate of possible worth, he is likely to be on roughly £20k a week (don't know full ins and outs) who are we replacing him with. There won't be any proven goal scorers that will be available for that price, do we invest down the other end of the park and look at a CB, as we can score but in general we struggle to keep a clean sheet or do we look at a RW or save the cash and look at a loan move. There are so many options but even a goal scorer that could hit double figures in the likely less than 20 games left of the season would be a gem of a find.

personally think he's having a ok season he's still young, people need to realise,
its just his decision making for me he seems to shoot when the pass is on for a better attempt at goal

The only thing more baffling than Wilder deciding to spend £10m on Tom Cannon is the bizarre delusion that by playing him, somehow, he’ll come good.

Brewster mk2. Add McBurnie into the list and Wilder has pissed £50m up the wall on strikers who score fewer than once every 10 appearances.
To be fair to McB, his all round game is far superior to those two. He's worth his weight just helping to defend set pieces.
