We need to talk about Sydie Peck

Here’s my theory.

Sydie Peck was born on 13 September 2004.

Exactly nine months before that (13 December 2003), we drew 2-2 at home to Watford. After the game, amid speculation about Michael Brown being sold, manager Neil Warnock said “Brownie’s replacement is in the building”.

And the Lord said “Let there be light”. And there was light.

So what are you saying? Brown slipped Warnock one and then 9 months later Warnock gave birth to Peck?

That’s some recruitment strategy

Sydie is, on his day, a very good footballer. If he was consistently at the top of his game...well...he wouldn't be playing for us in the Championship.

I for one am going to enjoy and appreciate his input tonight. United's first, first half hattrick for 33 years (Brian Deane in 1993 was the last). Well played Sydie.

Bastard......I mean yeah we'll done Peck 😄

Name checked as a future captain by Wilder after tonight's game. Hope he stays around long enough for it to happen. If his trajectory carries on, his fee could be hard to turn down.

A night to remember for Sydie tonight. We shout 'shoot' for a reason. Other team members please note.

What i've loved about Peck this season is his attitude and his ability to step up and lead when we need to. Away at Blackburn when he was caught in possession before they scored and last night after they scored, he showed a real determination to be the one to make the difference.

Alongside Souza he was able to thrive, but didn't get as far forwards as we had Hamer and O'Hare, but he's starting prove that he can also add goals to his game, just like i told him a couple of years ago :D

I think playing with Phillips has helped him recently, as they interchange when they need, this is a little similar to when he played with Souza, sometimes he'd take the ball deeper as Souza went forward, but mostly he was in front of Souza. Similar with Phillips, but i think he has a little more freedom and Phillips brings a calmness. Bringing Riedewald in last night and with a few changes, perhaps it took a little time to settle, but once we were 1-0 and Preston sat in, we were able to get the ball moving better than i've seen this season or last.

Peck getting further forward, wanting to create and put the ball in the box, getting ahead of the strikers for his second to create the goal for himself and then that burst into the box for his third really show that he's developing.

Not the finished article, but i like how he's not phased and wants to lead.
