I agree with a lot you've said here but not a chance he walks. The bloke is too stubborn, he'll argue with you even though he knows he's wrong, or even worse switch it around on us fans like he did in his post match comments on Donovan.

The next 4 games look fairly favourable, so things could really get ugly if we don't get 2-3 wins out of them I reckon.
You’re probably right

I still think he’ll grind out enough results until we’re safe. Then it becomes a whole new ball game.

The worrying thing with that is that he’s already name checked some of the shite as players he’s looking to tie down to longer deals.

The likes of Cooper, Peck and Seriki are absolutely must do our best to get them on a new deal regardless of who the manager is.

When he’s mentioning Ayew, Choudhury etc if he gets his way and we sign them on for another couple of seasons we’re going to be hampering the next manager with a load of shit he’s got to try and polish taking up a huge chunk of his wage budget.

I don’t understand how even the most ardent Wilder fans aren’t concerned he’s looking at players like that thinking they’re worth considering for next season.

I don't think he was talking about tying ayew and Choudhury down yet.

Name checked Burrows, Cooper, Peck and Seriki.

If Donovan, (for BBD) Peck, (for Blaster) and Seriki, (for Choudhury) don't start on Friday that's it, he will have totally lost the plot.

I would also bring McCallum back for Burrows.
Donovan has to start. He did well in his 20 mins. As expected.
Seriki might not be quite up for the minutes but who knows.

Peck should start ahead of Blaster indeed.

I read an article which unfortunately I cannot find now which specifically mentioned those 4 as top priority but went on to later mention potentially looking at new deals for some of the absolute dross.

Those 4 have to be top priority but then anyone else should be put on hold IMO

Our squad for the playoff final.

Cooper
Choudhury
Anel
Robinson
Burrows

Brewster
Souza
Peck
Hamer

Moore
Campbell

A Davies
Holding
McCallum
Seriki
T Davies
A Brooks
O'Hare
BBD
Cannon

With Rak Sakyi amongst others not even in the squad.

We've lost Anel, Robinson, Brewster, Souza, Hamer and Moore from the starting 11 (plus Holding, T Davies, A Brooks and O'Hare from the bench).

We've added Tanganga, Kitching, K Phillips, Donovan, Chong, Bamford, Riedewald, Rothwell and McGuinness as regular(ish) starters.

You could argue that Donovan is a replacement for Brooks, Phillips for Souza, Bamford for Moore, Tanganga for Anel, Chong for Brewster and that Kitching is an upgrade on Robinson. Ayew is a very poor replacement for O'Hare and BBD is a very poor replacement for Hamer. That line up took Sunderland apart up until the second disallowed goal and should have been out of sight if the second goal hadn't been ruled out.

The current squad has problems of course, but in no way should it be churning out the shite we're having to put up with every week. The fact we have absolutely no plan 11v11 beyond kick it in to space and ask Cannon to chase it down (and get out run) is shameful for a team that's got the supposed calibre of player we have being paid the amount of money they're on.

I'm not saying we should be going toe to toe with West Ham, Southampton or Wolves, but there's also absolutely no way we should be getting outplayed and have to resort to aimless hoof by 90% of the league either.

Philips was my MoM.
He's a DM being asked to be the creator which is not his game.
Blaster was useless in a two.
Our midfield was set up wrong.
No point having two up front when Cannon is a chocolate fireguard.
Needed a 3rd midfielder who can break the defensive lines.
spot on need a system with 3 in midfield and phillips was my motm as well yesterday wilder still tactically in the dark ages and if he isnt sacked during this season we certainly need to replace him next summer he will keep us up but nothing more we need to go in a different direction next season utb ftp ⚔️⚔️⚔️

I remember agreeing with Pompey (no longer a member here) that when it comes to midfield CW is lacking and in fact I’d say quite a few managers are the same even when they think that they’re teams can play through the centre they can’t and since we’ve gone from 5 3 2 to 4 4 1 1 the football has got worse.

His stubbornness will ultimately be his downfall imo.
Seriki and Donovan must start, and I would change blaster for Peck.
If his premise is that if you play well you keep your place then surely if you stink the place out you lose it.
Spot on- I love so much about Wilder - but his stubbornness is both a strength at times - but recently a big weakness. He clearly has favourites & the Donovan / Seriki situation - similar to how he criticisesd Brooks last season are just foolish. My gut is he’s lost over 50% of the fan base now and a few more bad results at home & he’ll get more bad reactions like the guy at half time yesterday.

I really he hope he can reflect & start picking his best players & not favourites - but if not this may get messy. Wrexham at home on Friday night may be the start of that.

i think your right just cant see past a wrexham win friday night

For the longest time after Bamford injured his arm I was thinking surely he needs to bring on a striker, maybe Cannon.

Then I realised that Cannon was on. I want Cannon to come good but can that happen under Wilder? We don’t look coached.

I can see us beating Wrexham on Friday because it’s shaping up to be that sort of season. But it’ll be papering over the abundantly clear cracks.

There’s a lot of similarities between us and Wrexham this season. Just financially a differed stratosphere.

Parkinson is an old school manager whose spent a lot of Wrexhams millions on players that aren’t really suitable for a proper promotion push.

Wrexham have the global brand and financial clout to probably tempt McKenna out of his sabbatical but whoever they end up with next with probably need 2/3 windows to clear out their squad and build their own team away from Parkinson’s hoof.

I’m really not into the ‘we lost Brooks, Hamer and O’Hare therefore all hope is lost’ narrative.

Donovan looks like an adequate Brooks replacement, possibly even more than. We had 2 weeks to replace Hamer after logically knowing all summer we’d need to. O’Hare is a miss if you stick to 4-2-3-1 which we don’t have to and he’s opted for 4-4-2.

For me it’s about getting your better player on the field.

In 4-3-3 he can play Phillips, Peck and Arblaster. He’d have to drop Cannon. So he has a legitimate choice to drop Peck for Cannon or drop Arblaster for him.

I still think those three and Bamford flanked by Donovan and Chong looks decent.

That’s his choice not to, so I don’t buy the notion we can’t put a creative team out that holds its own. We can, but just not if we pick a formation that favours passengers over those that impact the game.

He didn't used to be and that's clouding the judgement terribly for some people

That seems to be the problem with a lot of people both on here and within the club - they're not concerned with what someone might be able to do in the future, more what they were able to do in the past. Continually petrified of trying something new. A great philosopher once wrote "People who avoid failure also avoid success". That sums United up perfectly

ive said many times that my position is. im happy to finish 14th & he gets the full klopp farewell at the final home game. but its just a feeling we can't continue to get lucky in the way we have
The phase “More luck than judgment” just about sums us up perfectly.

Great philosopher?

It is nonsense to suggest that a better manager couldn't get a better tune out of the present squad ,
Never mind all the old noise about Selles.
This is a failing manager doing nonsensical things which are so obviously wrong that 90% of the fans can see it.
Just listen to the crowd after he FINALLY managed to bring Donovan on.

any system is better than this outdated 442 that wilder is playing weve no control over games when were constantly outnumbered in midfield most of our fans can see this but wilder cant for some strange reason still think 3511 is worth another try put donovan just in behind the main striker with seriki and burrows/mcallum as the threats down each flank and also enables us to get 3 in the centre of the park

Totally agree it is painfully obvious now, the sad reality is he has damaged his legacy with even some of the most ardent of Wilder fans.

His stubborn refusal to change has cost us twice before so I fail to see why he was brought back.

I would genuinely rather see us under a young attack minded Manager like Jack Wilshere His football philosophy prioritizes getting the ball forward quickly to dynamic players, attacking weak spaces, and building diverse attacking options.

Donovan Seriki and One would thrive under Wilshere our fans want to see us playing on the front foot having a go that is when we are at our best.

Our fans can take losing if we have a go vut what I am seeing from Wilder again is simply not good enough.
I was calling for Wilshire last season. For all the reasons you mentioned. Plays good attacking football and would be respected by the players despite being new to management. Plus he’ll have decent contacts in the game

I'm sorry to say there isn't a manager on earth who could improve Cannon.
He seems a nice lad who runs all game but he's just one of those unfortunate hapless unintelligent players who NEVER get where they need to be on a football pitch.
He's not :
Tall , strong , fast , muscular in his duels with CBs , clever at finding space or arriving where the ball is gonna drop.
He can't win an aerial ball , he can't thread a pass - basically he doesn't have one single quality required of a CF.
Yesterday I wanted to weep when he was clear through chasing a through ball and got slightly nudged by a defender ...
He flopped to the ground and looked at the ref - I imagine the ref just laughed at him.
He is useless.
Wilder needs to forget his £10m & 5 year contract mistake and never pick him again.
Forget the investment , it's just how Wilder rolls (remember Brewster ?).
But if Wilder keeps picking him , and we have performances like the first half yesterday , it's all going to end in tears.
Jesus wept - even Campbell got a shot off yesterday.
