We must surely be reaching the tipping point where it is better to replace him with anyone rather than hang on to a bloke clearly failing to meet any objectives or standards. A loss at Bristol and a poor result v a pretty awful Derby has got to signal the end for Wilder, this crap can't be allowed to carry on. We have to give a new bloke time to see what is needed, and we have to make a few quid available to do a bit of wheeling and dealing in January otherwise we can only pray there are three teams worse than we are. So far this season it is hard to see which three teams are in a worse state than what we are.

No. Achieves nothing and probably counter-productive.
A change needs to be a well thought out step, to a new structure. It should be a new start, even if that involves a period of consolidating, bringing in young players, focussing on the academy and an updated recruitment plan.
A long term, sustainable change.

A loss today and I think he should be moved on, although I actually think we’ll win today (I always hope we do), which I think will feel like a stay of execution - perhaps that is just how I see it though.

If a new manager hasn’t yet been identified, then I wouldn’t be opposed to a short term fix (Jones/Collins) until Jan, as long as an experienced football person is brought in at the same time to review and develop a modern structure and strategy for the club, and helps the owners identify a suitable manager/head coach ready for January.

Agreed but, apparently, he's the only man who can manage us, and he's at his best when he has no money to spend.

Well, that's working out well then.

He's backed himself into a corner now.

Whilst I think sticking with Wilder is definitely going to mean at least flirting with relegation, The idea of Collins/Jones stinks of nailed on relegation for me.

Here’s a question, irrespective of your held views on Wilder what position is the cutting point for pulling the trigger of changing manager at the end of the season. I.e what constitutes an acceptable season, or passing grade for Wilder?

Current view: On fence, erring towards Wilder in.

Sackable: bottom half finish and I’d probably opt for a change of manager

Keep: Top half but not playoffs is probably a okay outcome, with playoffs representing an excellent outcome in current situation.

I’m intrigued on how the tipping point would differ depending on your currently held in or out view.

I don't think it matters if we finish 9th, 13th, or 21st by this point.

Many people have lost faith in Wilder being the man to take us forward long term.

The longer he stays now is just taking time away from his successor.

But this is the question, right? Those positions you mention clearly wouldn’t change your stance. I’m interested in what would

Obviously wouldn’t happen but if we finished 4th I’d suspect you’d be in favour of keeping?

We finished 3rd two seasons ago and he got the sack.

He'd have to produce something extraordinary now to turn the tide.

Got to go for me, his signings have been appalling and like it or not, "brexit" based. Get Steve Cooper in now, we are in a very similar position to Florist a few seasons ago. Grow some balls Board, make the change...Wilder will leave us in the same position he came in.

It’s not about league position for me. My main gripes with wilder are

Prolonged deterioration of the quality of football. Poor tactics, strange team selections. Sitting back and defending narrow leads. Players out of position etc etc

Key man dependency with control over too much of the club.

Piss poor recruitment. Im sick to the back teeth of watching like likes of Ayew, Choudhury, BBD, Doherty, Shackleton come in on big money and either underperform or be consistently unavailable. We sign someone like Donnovan and freeze him out for actually running his bollocks off and being creative.

Showing absolutely zero desire to improve and take us forwards. He said he thinks we should aspire to be like an Everton team from 20 years ago just because they signed a few English players while in reality football is almost unrecognisable from what it was 20 years ago and some of Everton’s better players in that era were still infact foreign. How uninspiring.

He could take us up automatically and I would still have massive reservations about his ability to recruit and build a team capable of competing at that level because we would be fishing in the 20 odd % of British based players capable of playing in the premier league and the most expensive pool which we cannot afford to compete in. His first move would no doubt be to make BBD a permanent signing.

If these owners haven't been thinking about a well thought out change for months ,
They are even dafter than they've already proved.
And they deserve continual relegation until their only escape is to put student flats on the Lane & luxury mansions at Dore.
Don't forget that - to them - we are just a quick-flip which bombed.

Replace with anyone !!! Wow.

What's wrong with finishing at the position which matches the level of your wages budget ?
At or above - stay.
Below - feck off.
Simples.

I can think of many pleasurable routes to oblivion ,
other than watching something I've loved for 60 years
get completely withered
immediately after one of its biggest blossomings.

My opinion for whats its worth, hopefully 🤞 it gets better, if not then hes undoing all the credit hes got in the bank since 2016.

Well can anyone be much worse, when you look at the signings of Shackleton, Ayew, Reidewald, Choudhery, BBD, Rothwell, Phillips, Campbell, Doherty all of them unfit or way past their best then you have to ask the question. Safe in the knowledge that these will be in the squad before the younger players like Seriki, Oné, Baptise who have all shown more in the few minutes they have got on the pitch. Then we have no discernable formation, tactics, plan A or plan B everything is a short term sticking plaster, we have to change, or we just live in hope we survive this season. If we do survive what happens next rinse and repeat?

I'm not sure how long he thinks that he can live on 2016-20. It was a ridiculously good time, but his currrent ability power bank looks to be on about 10% and dropping.

The chippy, 'not me Guv' Wilder of the end of his first tenure is back.

I do wonder, if he's that big a Blade, that he'd quit rather than see us back in League one?

I think he’s way too arrogant to “introspect” these days.

My only reservation with getting rid is what we saw last time with Seles - it seems he’s involved more with the day to day other duties than we thought.

I’d be happy to part ways if it was part of an overhaul of the whole footballing structure of the club. With these owners though, I’m not sure if I’d trust them to hold a schoolyard raffle 😬

Good to hear that you know Steve and that he's changed his mind about coming here.

Simple answer - yes, they can. No idea if they would, and that is the call. Good luck to our superb, knowledgeable board in undoubtedly making the right call.

This is my big issue. The Wilder of 16-20 would do whatever it took to win, when we couldn’t stamp our authority games he’d adapt.

Since the LMA award he’s become his own biggest fan, freezing out players he’s had disagreements with, sniping at previous boards, sniping at fans that disagree with him, picking fights with pundits, picking fights with other managers and players, snarky with journos…. The chip on his shoulder must be weighing him down these days because he can’t stand any form of introspection or criticism.

Everything he does is right and how dare anyone disagree.
