3 at the back – why aren’t we looking at Leeds’ system?!

We don't have to
Wilder is a great manager
our greatest ever
He has never picked the wrong player
He has never picked the wrong formation
He has never used the wrong tactics
He has never signed the wrong player
He has never sold anyone too cheaply
Never sold our best player to just bring in journeymen he liked 10 years ago
Never played a team not fighting tirelessly valiantly with 100% physique and technique
He kept us up last season when we should have gone down
despite three 'top' players the board sold for this season
The playoffs are guaranteed with his own top astute signings
He, the players and the 'experts' say so.
He has NEVER had a failure
He's thwarted by bad owners giving him large budgets and the pressure that goes with expectations
Brexit
Covid
Global Warming
Goal line technology not working

Endless ignorant criticism of fans and in the media
TV changing dates of fixtures disadvantaging only us
The sky too blue

The endless futility of life within the cosmic void of a Godless universe

GET THIS ARROGANT IMBECILE OUT
HE NEVER LEARNS because he NEVER accepts he may have faults
WHO EXPECTS three at the back NEXT game at Fleetwood?
ie what should be an easy win - scratch team or not.
WHO EXPECTS three at the back NEXT league game at another of his endless 'top sides' Stoke?
The formation which has been our best the last three (four?) seasons
The last two essential due to wing backs and lack of centre back quality

Good to have you onboard!

Couple of years ago we were on a PAR with both Forest and Leeds, right now we are closer to being a similar club to Preston, than those pair. It's not Wilders fault at all, its the mis-management from above, it's totally tinpot totally skint.

Put Forest or Leeds in our position do you think they sell Gus/ Cal or Brooksy for the peanuts we got, of course they don't

Do you think it would be Frees & Loans - of course it wouldn't. Doherty, BBD, Ayew FFS its enough too make you cry.

I think it'll be 352 most weeks now, with a couple of tweaks depending on the opponent.

V 'good' teams

Gk
CB CB CB
WB DM DM WB
AM AM
CF

Sometimes I'll be 2 x AM, sometimes 1 AM and 2 x CF

V 'lesser' teams

GK
CB CB CB
WB DM WB
AM AM
CF CF

Seriki makes a huge difference in potential attacking power. Peck likely to be the one who changes between DM/AM

We are on so many levels, on the pitch but off it too, they have started their stadium capacity increase set for an additional nearly 10,000 seats by end of 2028 and then a further increase by the end of 2030. Although the debate within the Leeds area probably won't stop for a while they are looking at potential for a tram system from White Rose Centre via Elland Road and onto Leeds City Station, I have no idea if these will get the green light but if it did it adds to the appeal of the stadium location as at the moment it's not exactly the best of locations or accessible without traffic or bus.
Disagree with the kast part can give ypu the train station but elland rd must be the easiest ground in the country to get to
A1, m1 m62 m621 directly at the side of the ground
As someone said they are even putting trams to trainstation last time i went by train about 20 mins walk
So lucly to have owners like that compared to this set of sychopants we currently have

Seems to be the new angle on here for bashing the club.

I genuinely don’t think some people understand that players will improve when they hit their physical prime, coupled with playing at a higher level and access to the resources of the PL (better coaches, better facilities etc)

Look at the sections of our support who slag Peck off week in week out. They expect the finished article at 21.
Peck is probably my favourite player.
Many of the squad are unlikeable but I’ve allus rated Peck

Watching Leeds United tonight, it’s clear to me that we should have a detailed look and analysis into the 3 at the back system that works so well for them.

They’ve lost just one game since March, and although that obviously isn’t solely down to the formation, there’s clearly something about the structure and the way they match player profiles to specific roles that works.

I’d like us to look at how they use the system and then match our own players to similar roles. For example, Doherty at right centre-back where Justin plays.

Once everyone is fit, I’d be looking at something like:

Cooper

Seriki – Doherty – Tanganga – Kitching – Burrows

Phillips

Peck – Arblaster

Bamford – Brereton Díaz / Cannon

So essentially a 3-4-1-2 / 3-1-4-2, with Phillips sitting centrally as the more defensive of the midfield three.

Phillips gives you the protection in front of the back three, while Peck and Arblaster have more freedom to press, carry the ball and get forward. Seriki and Burrows provide the width and can push high when we’re in possession.

Doherty playing on the right of the three is another one I’d be interested in. He’s comfortable enough on the ball to step into midfield when needed, while still giving us the defensive cover of three centre-backs.

Then you’ve got Bamford as the link-up striker, with Brereton Díaz or Cannon alongside him.

I’m not saying we should blindly copy Leeds, but when a team has lost just once since March, their system is obviously worth studying properly.

We’ve got a squad that, on paper, could actually suit this really well. I’d much rather see us commit to a system and build around player profiles than keep chopping and changing.

Worth a proper look?
Its also having the players to play the system - we dont ....unless its walking football

Maybe it works there because they've offloaded the crap that can't play in that system a few junctions down the M1?

In one of the worst premier league teams ever, completely and utterly at sea with no organisation or premier league ability throughout it. Hardly a shock
We used Ampadu primarily as a CB - he wasn't big enough or strong enough to play there regularly. Leeds use him more as a CDM.

poster saying leeds are miles in front of us is correct but you have to take in to account sheffield has 2 clubs never want them to merge but i do feel if sheffield only had 1 team we would be in a similar position

What makes you think we wouldbe the club wendys older than us ?

What your saying is basically what we did from 2016-2020 under Wilder…

Picked a 3-5-2 or variation of - recruited and selected a specific profile of player for the system, maximized their strengths, played innovative attractive football whilst still being defensively solid and decent on the counter attack.

Which is why it baffles me why Wilder since his return in 2023 appears incapable of the same thing and we’re subject to the boring, predictable and dire football we have to watch each week, which doesn’t seem to have any real plan, and a system that usually doesn’t fit the players we have or the players strengths. We have no attacking identity, create very little and are weak as piss at the back.

It’s almost like Wilder’s ego is so big that he doesn’t want to get branded a one trick pony, so has diverted so far away from the system that got him so much success as if to prove a point that he’s an adaptable manager.

Very interesting post Borbokis!
When Wilder came back for the 1st time the team he built was breaking up and losing Jack was the start of this, creating that team and mentality of it was never going to be easy .Im sure if he could would replicate it tomorrow! Just getting players who fit the squad (style) can't be easy when players we have don't have the strengths they had.
We have a mish mash of players and finding a way to play can't be easy.
When we drew our first two matches I was thinking we are going to make life difficult for teams playing us building the team from the back with a strong spine .
Seems to have gone pear shaped since ! We need to get back to that with 442 too open with the players we have i think Wilder has realised that and versions of other systems will suit us better we don't have the legs to play just two in midfield.

Flipping heck Mrs Wilder, you don’t half bang the drum for him.

We played 442 in possession on Sunday and 532 out of possession. Still we play the long ball to Mcallum when Cooper or a dead ball situation occurs,1 out of approximately 6 finds our player from that, when it’s lumped to Bamford,we cough up possession immediately as no one is round him. How can we keep possession up front when BBD is 20 yards away from the centre forward? The spine is better but tactics are waaaay behind.

Agree with most of that, apart from " not Wilders fault " hes part of the problem, not the same manager, I'll give him that hes been dropped in the shit! But his arrogance comes through more than ever, and hes starting to have a go at the fans! Which might lead to his down fall 🤔

Solid recruitment team. Recruited well and recruited players to play all different ways. We just recruit to kick and run lol

Thats bollocks
He was our best player the season Wilder took us down for the second time
That is why he was their NUMBER 1 TARGET signing
His (results) stats always made him look an above average player for us in the Prem
People raved about him in the Chumpionship
He/We had two disastrous seasons under the imbecile
and he couldn't wait to get away.
So much so he took a chance on Falke
and it paid off clearly
Taking him off against Newcastle sealed our fate that day. He and Ahmedhodzic together couldn't handle Gordon so Hecky took Bogle off at half time in one of the worst managerial decisions I've ever witnessed. The rest is embarrassing.

Let me get this right.

If he sticks to the system that got success 7 years ago, he's a dinosaur, but if he changes it, he's egotistical?

This Wilder hating is just so easy.
