Wilder wins games

That’s not a Wilder related issue though is it? I know you’re not a fan of his but I’m sure he doesn’t send them out with “don’t forget to cough up possession, lads” ringing in their ears.

It will be interesting what happens during the international break. He’s buying time for that.

If we come back and play disjointed after that then folks are not going to know where to turn.

But I do understand how losing O’Hare, a key per of the line up, would have disrupted a lot of the preparation. Under Weir we played well in the first game and won 2-1. Kevin MacDonald was instrumental in a free role. Within a week he’d gone and we didn’t get another win until Weir was sacked.
Keeping possession is the main objective in training as well as finding space to pass and move,we don’t do it,Blackburn,Norwich,Cardiff et al all did it and made it look easy. Yes I know we beat Rovers, but in reality they should have been out of sight. O’Hare knew he was off 2/3 weeks before.

Blackburn conceded 22 shots against Wolves and beat them. West Ham conceded 18 against Wolves and beat them.

Not sure I see the fascination about this particular statistic.

Yep if there was social media then similar comments about John Harris would have been doing the rounds. The picture was different then the squad was building with weaknesses mainly the away form.
Orient Just promoted turned us over 3-1 and the away form looked like nagging us again,3 down to Bristol c ity and we managed a draw gradually got better from there..
We had TC ,Woody, and co .
We have no one of that quality now so Wilder is trying to build a squad with no money! He needs backing not unfair critism.
But he still has one of the highest wage budgets in the division

What you really mean is accept and settle for mediocrity.
What does not accepting reality look like ?

Going over the same arguments ad nauseum to no effect.

If we are a mediocre championship team this season then so be it .

We have the players we have for this season , no amount of moaning will change that .

Nothing will change untill next summer at least.

Out ran out fought Poor in every area of the pitch 19 shoot on utds goal Blackburn played with no forwards at all and still looked better than us up front .We won granted but Blackburn will struggle this season . wilder deserves nothing picking a shambles of a line up and formation
So, from the FIT players we had what team would you have picked?

Poor appointment granted, better managers out there. Correct idea though. The whole club needs a full reset from Chris Wilder. Going back to him after 5/6 games was the bigger

One of those silly circular arguments. Some wanted him back, others didn’t. I think we were mad to sack him but also think he’s run out of ideas now, though I’ll wait to November to see if he can change my mind. Personally I really hope he does but I know others disagree

It wasn't some wanted him back MOST wanted him back, because after 6 games they felt given the complete lack of a structure at Sheffield United, it was hoped he would save us from relegation, the haters can say he had 40 games left blah blah blah, but he did what it says on the tin - we didn't go down.
I think now the remit is again save us from relegation, and the dodgy Yanks will try and offload us for about 70 million i.e with the 35 million they have renagued on with Princey that'll about break them even.
Selling our 3 best players and 68% of our goals last season and replacing with jack shit isn't on Wilder its on the Yanks.
He hasn't run out of ideas he's been sold a complete shipwreck, he's honest in his interviews he's trying to find a solution with a lob sided squad. It's an hard formula to get right. Hopefully Burrows, Chong and Seriki come back and he's got a bit more to play with.
Wolves will be a very hard task - I think he'd snatch your hand off for a point right now - 3 in midfield is a 100% must.

Shit squad hes assembled they say

Lost the plot.. tactically inept sold the family silver

But...he still wins games despite not getting a bean to buy in

Up to 9th same points as millwall in 8th play off spot.....

Nasty habit ..winning upsets a lot of posters
Delusional ******** as usual from a cultist
or just trolling?

In his previous three SUFC seasons started in the championsship aka division 2
WILDER HAS TOPPED the division at some stage
(I HOPE HE DOES THIS
But there is NO WAY I can see this happening)

We finsihed midtable first season

Second season when we faltered but Leeds faltered more
WE finished second and he is to be commended for that
Driven there of course by the goals of Billy Sharp
who he DROPPED the previous season after being top with him in the side scoring
and was OUT of the team the opening day of this second season
only regaining his place as Leon Clarke was injured
He become undroppable after scoring goal after goal
(but was 'rested')
including against our promotion companions
ie FOUR against Villa
THREE against Norwich
WE LOST NONE OF THOSE FOUR KEY GAMES

(An aside but he (Sharp) and Duffy who he rowed with were the TWO players Wilder tried to replace with a series of club transfer record signings!)

The third season - despite losing key player Bogle and others who could not wait to leave him
We STILL had by far the BEST team and WOULD have been champions if Wilder had not totally changed
his approach
He has abandoned the values he learned as a player and implemented previously
The games have been tedious and boring
(totally draining when you are watching as a fan
seeing your team ripped wide open down both wings
and waiting for what seem the inevitable goals against)
Results have largely been achieved DESPITE Wilder rather than because of him
on the basis he had quality players
Often the match winners despite the 'tactics'
ie top inherited transfer signings like Anel Souza and Harmer
and academy produced Seriki Peck Arblaster Brooks
despite driving out others that starred for us with those same academy players
but never giving the chance that he did give to far inferior Hackford

He bottled the League - but that time others did not
Beating us without fail as a result of his imbecilic tactics
(FOUR times out of four fixtures)
He failed in the playoffs when similarly he played opponents that were so poor defensively
IF he had played his best players and formation
THE GAME WOULD HAVE BEEN WON BY HALF-TIME
and I do not mean by two goals up as it should and would have been without VAR
(SIX defeats in 7 fixtures)

So lets move on to last season, when he did not start in charge.
We lost the first five games - primarily at Middlesboro as McCallum shot over the bar in the last actual minute of the game from two yards out
(That COULD have been a turning point for Selles
but WOULD NOT if he had not abandoned the same imbecilic tactics that Wilder now also employs)
BUT we were only FOUR points down from Wilders equivalent games the previous season
ie 88 points to be 'expected' from the subsequent games and the autos
But yes THREE keyplayers had gone.

He STILL had TWO of the BEST attackers in the Division and yet somehow he is to be commended
'for saving us from relegation'!
WTF
We did NOT get in the playoffs because he basically NEVER played these TWO STARS in their correct/best for team positions
following these new demented tactics instead
(Aside YOU generic claim we also had a further top player OHare
who I consider our BEST EVER TRANSFER SALE surpassing Birchenall and Sabella who ironically we could have actually got more for from Sunderland than his preferred Leeds
PLUS others like Bamford
Hardly a relegation squad in THE WORSE EVER second division)

A RELEGATION SEASON LOL
We had a patch where we were AGAIN JOINT TOP
with badly starting but automatically promoted Ipswich in the form table
OVER A PERIOD OF TWENTY GAMES
getting 38 points
similar to his failed FIRST season at the start where as I say we were top
We fell alway again
AGAIN I say due to Wilder but MUCH MUCH MORE so
In the latter stages our isolated wins were largely DESPITE Wilder not because of him
and as this season a bit of luck
eg Fluke opening goal at Watford
eg goal ruled out from corner for QPR for unknown reason
eg 10 men v a very mediocre Hull

This season we have played 6 games
We have NOT been the better team in ONE
We have been OUTPLAYED by THREE relegation favourites
CARDIFF
BOLTON
BLACKBURN
Admittedly with two away
and largely decreasing amounts of their domination
after the slaughter at Cardiff.
I keep seeing third mentioned
I am avoiding some news as I have not watched at least the last three game highlights on ITV
I hope we are third in the league still
(but checking above see we are not?)
We need as many points as we can get - no matter HOW we get them
including lucky, generally outplayed or FA interventions re illegal opponent practices
But the fact is the manager is STILL employing the same imbecility
eg FAVOURITES such as Choudhury
Is there ANYBODY who agrees Choudhury can play fullback?
Is there ANYBODY who agrees Donovan our best attacking player ATM
should be WASTED deployed to cover for Chouldhury;s inabilities at fullback?
etc etc etc
We have been outplayed as any sane person can see
The stats show we have
CREATED LESS than the rest of the division
CONCEDED MORE chances than the rest of the division
https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/p...ld-united-problem-under-chris-wilder/#threads

All with 'no signings'
Well apart from the £10 million centre forward that Wilder signed and says is an integral part of our future
Our most expensive ever Division 2 signing by a mile as far as I remember (Egan £4 million)
Apart from our most expensive ever 'defender' £8 million who Wilder similar thinks
is a KEY signing and integral to our future hence made him captain on his return
and has NEVER been dropped even after being sent off.
(Aside although Selles said he was 'the one we wanted' I do NOT believe
Tanganga McGuiness Chong Ings Mee were all done WITHOUT the agreement of Wilder
if not his recommendation
who as usual was scheming to take over a cushy job behind the current managers back as he did with Warnock at Boro and Hecky again here
I actually said openly that they were Wilder signings and that I could not understand them
- NOT the much maligned AI -
before he actually came back!)
We also have much to my surprize top players Seriki Peck Campbell who I picked as in our best team at the end of the season
and the half a dozen ex international players probably on the 40K a week Choudhury was on !!!
We have a TOP 6 WAGE BUDGET
WILDER alone has chosen the players
HE HAS HAD THE BUDGET and the squad IS DOWN TO HIM ALONE
(and of course who is desperate or daft enough to sign for him
and not just optimistic that he will soon be out the door)
If you missed the name and you'd just heard Wilders description
you'd think we had signed Messi or Ronaldo rather than Ayew!
(ASIDE - anybody heard if Ronaldo WOULD be interested in player manager on Wilders salary?
He could only be BETTER than this demented incarnation of Wilder of the last 3 plus years)
And according to things I've read Wilder is still looking to add - as throughout last season
Wilder has NO excuses to any sane person
Other teams outside the relegated clubs did NOT have stars like Brooks and Hamer to lose
MOST WOULD DIE for a budget like he has.

WE CANNOT KEEP BEING THIS LUCKY
Surely?
Or play half the games against relegation favourites
A 33% win rate KEEPS us UP
NOT TAKES US UP!
And Wilder has a history of his teams failing as the season goes on at this level
Even at teams like Boro I believe

We have played one team I tipped for the playoffs
On the basis they signed top player Brooks
and the expectation THEY would have to sense to play him central or wide on the left
We lost

We have played one team I tipped for the extended playoffs
On the basis they will spend money not sell and the manager will be replaced if he does not achieve that
We drew at home
From the few things I have seen their manager could be soon in trouble

On Sunday we play the team I basically guessed would finish second on the basis of relegated
and signings
DESPITE changing manager to an unknown
If that 18 year old plays left side attacker against Choudhury (RB) and Tanganaga (RCB) he will quite easily
DESTROY BOTH
and in that event it is difficult to see us do anything but lose
with these imbecilic selections, formations and tactics

Leaving us with 9 points from 7 games
and after 10 games people START to take stock
Although we will no doubt hear the excuses
It's a 'new' team
They need time to gell
They even need 'time to get fit after 10 leagues games FFS
Remember. These elderly expensive unfit players were brought in LATE
because 'they can handle the pressure of needing to WIN games'

Hopefully still in the Cup though regardless of Wilder!

It wasn't some wanted him back MOST wanted him back, because after 6 games they felt given the complete lack of a structure at Sheffield United, it was hoped he would save us from relegation, the haters can say he had 40 games left blah blah blah, but he did what it says on the tin - we didn't go down.

Equally fair comments. I do feel he has rather run out of ideas but understand he has been dealt a rubbish hand. Want him to succeed but don’t think he is our long term future so if things are not better by November my view would be to write the next couple of seasons in place and put a new structure in place that can rebuild and take us forward.

what a crock of shit

the term supporter is lost on you

1 weve played 6 games not 7 ergo 1.5 points per game which means 67 points which got 8th last season ,
2 we are 2 points behind an automatic place 2nd
every team in this division has lost a game, after birmingham got beat
but you think our 1 defeat is confirmation we will be relegated
Tom Cannon is finally showing he can finish

did you guess Burnley would be bottom . why do you guess wolves would be 2nd

is there a need to be so negative
Ive watched us in over 60 seasons and seen really really bad squads
this one will get better every game , is how I see it

Yes, but if players are having to play with crap tactics then when they win its because of them. We won yesterday because of Cooper saving us and them not taking their chances, not because of a Wilder tactical masterclass. Same against Bolton
Shocker, you’re using a logic that means that whatever happens, Wilder gets no credit and you’re right. Ridiculous

Stats say cooper made 3 saves and they had 1 more shot on goal than we did. Yiud expect the home team to try

I read that as them having nearly three times as many shots on goal as we did and three times the XG and more than twice as many touches in our box and combining all of those things had comprehensively had more of the game, more pressure, more chances.

Worryingly I think they were in the midst of an injury crisis, had no strikers and a bench full of kids and still battered us.

But he still has one of the highest wage budgets in the division

It makes no odds when most of the wage investment is in sunk cost crap. United were in league one that first season with one of the highest budgets in the Championship. Similar story. It didn't help us then and it wont help us now. The Chairman had it at 8-10th on YouTube, that was before O'Hare left and after they couldn't pay Hamer what he wanted (or even compete with a non parachute divisional rival to keep our best young player Brooks). In terms of quality it's a long way off that 8-10th. When we add the amount of permanents the wages have been invested in over the last 5-6 years it tells its own story. Decline is the inevitable result.

So, from the FIT players we had what team would you have picked?
Correct. He had the choice of starting Adam Davies instead of Cooper and Baptiste over one of the centre backs. That's where we are. An argument can be made for Arblaster.

BBD started purely due to lack of alternatives. McCallum featured for similar reasons (hopefully he's ok). Campbell was a mile off and looks done in despite not starting many. Bamford will start Sunday if he's anything like, but he took a whack and it looked like it. Choudhury looks cooked but battled manfully. Doherty isn't ready for 90 minutes which means we are over reliant on the former. Kitching deserves a lot of praise for coming straight in and playing back to back games.

It's a huge challenge to put eleven fit bodies out there to compete against Wolves, let alone give them a real test. I'd probably shake hands on 0-1 if we could play the youth team.

I expect these players to start purely due to fitness considerations:

Peck, Bamford, Kitching, Tanganga, Jairo, Donovan (looks tired but no option), whichever LB is least fucked, Rothwell, Cooper.

I think the rest depends on the system and whether we go 4-5-1 (I would). I'd probably then stick Arblaster in there and see how we go. If Doherty can play an hour maybe him at RB and Choudhury in the middle.

Not annoyed you just posted a big paragraph how its all those people's fault. And Wilder of course. Pub bore bitter at everyone else having fun. You should stay at home.
Just to clarify- they’re not criticising you for going to the pub; they’re saying that it’s a poor indictment of the quality of the football we’re playing that the main highlight of your matchday experience isn’t the game itself.

So, if you had to summarise......?

Loved our battling performance at Blackburn but it does seem more like some of our players are battling long covid at times.

Just to clarify- they’re not criticising you for going to the pub; they’re saying that it’s a poor indictment of the quality of the football we’re playing that the main highlight of your matchday experience isn’t the game itself.
Far too many who's only ambition for the club is to be above or beat Wednesday now and again. They wear the bladey bladey thing like a badge of honour I was there when we were shit home and away blah blah only a blade gets this club blah blah
Blind devotion that's all they have, says it all when the highlight of their day is meeting up with mates in the pub before and after games
Sure looks like criticism.

He didn't win away at Plymouth and Oxford when we needed it and he fucked up in the biggie against Sunderland. If you'd said 'Wilder wins some games' I might have agreed with you for probably the first time ever 🐻
Would you not concede that bad results happen to any manager from time to time? Back in 1990 I recall Leeds losing to Barnsley at home and they dropped a lot of points that season as did United with 85 the points total both had. Leeds spent a fortune that season.

As for the play off. I dont see how Wilder was responsible for Keiffer Moore's awful pass to Watson, or Moore's awful forward play when two v two and Campbell free.

Had Moore played better in those two moments, which were absolutely crucial, we'd have likely gone up in my view.

Then there's the VAR side which was unfortunate and gave Sunderland a huge boost.

We'd have also have likely gone up automatically had Souttar and Arblaster not got season ending injuries. Leeds and Burnley did not lose anyone like that for the season.

But sure, Wilder wins "some" games. That's much better than winning not many games or none which I think many other managers we could have would achieve with this threadbare squad depleted of O'Hare, Hamer and Brookes.
