When Seriki is back we will be more solid and more of an attacking threat. He's quick, can get forward and quick enought to get back. Based on this year's squad I would ideally want a starting line up for every game as follows:

Cooper

Seriki Tanganga Kitching McCallum

Donavan Peck Phillips BBD

Campbell Bamford
I don’t think 4-4-2 suits this group IMHO.

I’d be looking more at:

Cooper

Seriki Tanganga Kitching McCallum

Peck Phillips Arblaster

Donavan Bamford BBD

Better in fact than the 1970-71 season we all know and love 😳🤨 Eh Silent Blade??

…………P…W…D….L
26-27…..6….2….3….1
70-71…..6….2….2….2

Get clueless Harris out. Should have been sacked after the Leyton Orient debacle. Currie is just a lazy luxury player. We’ve picked up lower league duds. I can see us being relegated with this lot.
Yep if there was social media then similar comments about John Harris would have been doing the rounds. The picture was different then the squad was building with weaknesses mainly the away form.
Orient Just promoted turned us over 3-1 and the away form looked like nagging us again,3 down to Bristol c ity and we managed a draw gradually got better from there..
We had TC ,Woody, and co .
We have no one of that quality now so Wilder is trying to build a squad with no money! He needs backing not unfair critism.

i do find it funny. that some fans are saying have you seen we've got 9 points. things are going well:)

& others saying have you seen how we played to achieve 9 pts & its unsustainable

I think the Wilder tribalism is all a bit too much for me. I feel like the goalposts are constantly being moved by fans who seem more invested in proving the ‘anti-Wilder’ subsection of our fanbase wrong, even in the face of what has been a tactically bizarre start to the season.

The weird revisionism about our squad’s value is odd too- despite the outgoings I’d be shocked if we didn’t still have one of the larger wage bills in the league.

Hanging on to squeeze points out of games against newly promoted teams- against the run of play- is not exactly encouraging. I’ve not seen anything to suggest that our, at times inept, approach to games will be sustainable over the course of the season without some significant tactical changes.

We’ve only played two teams who are currently in the top half of the table and we have some of the worst attacking stats in the entire league.

Cooper has almost single-handedly kept us in games- that’s not down to some Chris Wilder stroke of genius.

Won two games out of six and we’ve ended up with a thread called “Wilder wins games”. That’s how unhinged the whole thing is.

We simply cannot defend our flanks against opposition wingers , who put cross after cross into our box unchallenged.
God knows how many times this happened last night.
When we had possession , we booted it long , never thinking to slide a through ball or a pass beyond the opposition full backs to give our wingers something to chase down and win.
Tactics ?
We have no tactics or certainty none that will sustain the current rate of points accumulation.
And that's just on the subject of league position.
In terms of entertainment our football is ugly & boring with very little skilful endeavour to admire.
The contrast with the L1 team which Wilder built for very little in 2016 could not be greater.
He's nowhere near the same man or manager.
As a fan , his sense of failure since 2020 must be enormous and I can obviously sympathise with that.
But surely his time at the Lane is now done ?
Everything moves in cycles and he and the club need to recognise that , before the memory of his joyous period 16-20 is altogether spoiled.
Wilder needs the job more than the club needs him.
The Wilder backers need him in place as they bought fully in to the concept that there's only he can manage us as he's 'one of our own'
Like the city, Wilders best years are behind him and clinging on desperately for some sort of relevance now. 'One of our own'.
Turgid, boring football is apparently now wholly acceptable. Anything will do to keep him in place.

According to footystats website we have both the worst attack and the worst defence which is quite some achievement (XG). We’re giving up so many shots and barely taking any - it’s really worrying and I think the game against Norwich showed the gap between us and the contenders for promotion. Wilder does have form for outperforming stats though and what you can say is that this team does have a fighting spirit, similar to our promotion season under him and the season in the premier league where we weren’t always the best team but fought to the death and won a lot of close games. You could say similar about the 90 point season where we were okay, probably in the top 6 teams but won a lot more than we ‘should’ have, in contrast to last year the data would say we were similarly a playoff team but we kept giving away terrible goals or losing control of games when it mattered. Hull last year were similarly bad as we are now but somehow scraped through every game taking 3 points a lot of the time. Some teams are just like that. I expect we’ll get better as we still have some good players and I don’t think we’ve landed on our best 11 yet or a system that suits. I’d trust wilder to get the best out of this team. If it does go south and he gets sacked I dread to think what might happen. My prediction is mid table but a relegation fight if we get a points deduction. I think midtable would be a decent return when you consider we’ve kamikaze’d 4 transfer windows in a row now. Regardless of this season we’re going to be circling the drain before long unless there’s a big change in direction. Take out the players like Peck, Seriki, Burrows who we’ll probably need to sell if they won’t renew contracts, and all the players on loan or 1 year deals, we’ve really not got much left. There is a massive rebuild coming and I have no trust that anyone at the club knows how to do it. Norwich and West Brom are probably good comparisons to us a year further down the line with the drop off in parachute payments - they’ve both struggled since relegation from the premier league, flirted with a double relegation and had to offload high earners and their better players, but they’ve also been quietly squad building with younger players in their early 20s who are now stepping up. We’ve done nothing since we were relegated with regards to forward planning. Our reliance on loans stinks of when we were relegated to league one last time. If these players on 1 year deals or loans check out, knowing relegation won’t really affect them, we could really fall apart.

Last three sentences absolutely spot on.

This thread kinda shows why Wilder should have been thanked for keeping us in the Championship last season and then handed his P45 rather than a contract extension. Apart from dividing the fan base 2nd and 3rd times around what has changed? The football was a shit watch when he got his famous 92pts, grinding out wins by getting a lead and sitting on it against the lesser teams but 9 times out of 10 losing against top six clubs. He lost the plot towards the end of that season, we didn't lose at Wembley because of a VAR decision it was because Wilder has become a coward and decided to sit on a one goal lead.
Post Sellés we should have made a change but crawled back to Wilder. What changed, grinding out one goal leads against the crap teams surviving due to a purple patch mid-season, 41 games where we had a chance to change the way we played with better players than we currently have. The signs were there for all to see when we brought in the likes of Ings and Mee for their last big payday before retirement, for every Patrick Bamford there are 3-4 utter failures who take big money out of the club in wages and give nothing back.
Same again this season but on steroids with his drive for experienced +30 yr olds. Injury prone, no resale value at all, replacing decent players who we sell at the first bid. What happens in January do we sell Peck, Burrows Oné and Seriki? If so how do we replace them and what with? Next summer we are in the same position with nothing to sell, this short term strategy is only heading us to League One. I'd much rather we hang onto and get a few seasons out of our academy players than have old crap unfit farts blocking their progress.
Three seasons of Premier League cash + parachute payments this decade and fuck all to show for it most of it tossed away by Wilder on the likes of Brewster, I'm so glad we are skint otherwise he'd have happily spunked £10m on Souter bad enough he has brought in more of the shit from Leicester.
He did say this season would be different, but all I'm seeing is once again unfit players who can't last more than an hour no real pattern of play other than pass it around until it reaches a full back or the keeper who then hoofs it up in the general direction of an isolated forward too small to win many headers.
I wonder if another 2000 ST holders will not bother to renew next summer?

What would you know about 'one of our own'.
Ever thought the people backing Wilder want what they think is best for Utd ?
Nobody backs a person over the club they support.
And Wilder doesnt need the more than we need him, he is very comfortable and would walk into a job on TV instantly.

Enjoy your day.

People trot this line out all the time. What did we get for the 92 points?
Christ if we're only watching football to get some sort of achievement out of it then I'm afraid its the wrong club or maybe even wrong sport for you.
Some of our most enjoyable seasons over the last 30 years we've achieved the square root of f'all...isn't that partly why we love it - the hope that often/always kills?

It will always be the wrong club to follow if you want to see us achieve anything. Far too many who's only ambition for the club is to be above or beat Wednesday now and again. They wear the bladey bladey thing like a badge of honour I was there when we were shit home and away blah blah only a blade gets this club blah blah
Blind devotion that's all they have, says it all when the highlight of their day is meeting up with mates in the pub before and after games, want the best for United but too scared of change that's why we are stuck with Wilder that's why this club will never win owt other than a promotion every now and then. Someone will no doubt be along to say fuck off to Hillsborough if you don't like it, well look where blind devotion got them, admin and League One.

We are getting run through with 4 in midfield and the front men do not press. Other teams play 2 up top, press, we cough up possession.
That’s not a Wilder related issue though is it? I know you’re not a fan of his but I’m sure he doesn’t send them out with “don’t forget to cough up possession, lads” ringing in their ears.

It will be interesting what happens during the international break. He’s buying time for that.

If we come back and play disjointed after that then folks are not going to know where to turn.

But I do understand how losing O’Hare, a key per of the line up, would have disrupted a lot of the preparation. Under Weir we played well in the first game and won 2-1. Kevin MacDonald was instrumental in a free role. Within a week he’d gone and we didn’t get another win until Weir was sacked.

Seven of the players involved on the pitch last night have arrived in the last couple of weeks.

Three of our best creative and/or attacking players have been sold.

Three players who would definitely be in or around the 1st team are injured.

We're not exactly ripping up the league yet but under the circumstances I think it's fair to say we're making progress.

Its gonna take a bit of time to get us more competitive and start to show more steel in the performances.
Honest question, when was the last time a Wilder team genuinely improved throughout the season? You're probably looking back to his first stint

This is it

I dont get the intransigent pro or anti wilder lobbies. He's had good seasons and not so good seasons however thats gone .
This season is a bit of a free hit given the financial change , anything above mid table is a bonus and were definitely yet to see a 1st choice team be available.

For me its a season of battling out results where we can , as we did this week .

Its also a season with a new coaching set up learning how the squad can best be utilised and allowing another year of development for the possible breakthrough players of the future.

There was a time when it was right to change , imho that time isn't now .

A loss isn't a disaster , a win isn't a turning point. Just wish folks would put the placards away for the time being .

Ye it's the fans fault we're stuck with Wilder and are shit. Brilliant observation. You actually should stop following us until he leaves. If you're so hysterical over him you're seething at people enjoying meeting up with their mates because they dont hate Wilder. It's pretty pathetic and clearly not good for you. You'll not be missed. You hate Wilder more than you care about United.

What you really mean is accept and settle for mediocrity.

Oh you're so much better than us aren't you. If we were all like you United would definitely be successful. You and Nick Jansky should start a club for the high achieving blades. You can sneer at everyone gulping down beer and having a laugh with their mates

I knew someone would come up with the line you'll not be missed so predictable. Hysterical and seething 🤣 maybe try looking the mirror fancy getting so upset because some don't want the crap Wilder is serving up. I have followed United over 65 years so I'll take no lessons nor suggestions from the likes of you on what I should do thank you very much.

But you can look down you nose at people in the pub with their mates. You're clearly annoyed at them and think if we were all like you it would make United good 🤣 Embarrassing

No not annoyed, I just think it is sad when the best part of the day for some is in the boozer with their mates. Shows how good the football is to watch when it becomes secondary in their priorities, maybe you should all stay in the pub and keep warm.

Not annoyed you just posted a big paragraph how its all those people's fault. And Wilder of course. Pub bore bitter at everyone else having fun. You should stay at home.
