6 goals in two Premier League seasons and it was very difficult for him at that level. Scored plenty in League 1, did better than I expected in the Championship. Fleck was brilliant for us in his first 4 seasons from 2016 to 2020 so he was our best player for the 2010s decade

Coutts was and will always remain my favourite player in that timescale but there’s no argument from me that Fleck was #1.

Not so much old photos but photos of old stuff. I was a bit bored this afternoon and it's the first day we've had below 90°F for an age so I went for a walk around the cemetery at the old Fort Walla Walla. I love the old cemeteries, they tell a story and this one's no different. There are graves and memorial stones there for some of the soldiers who died in the Indian wars of the 1870's. Not that I sympathise with the land stealing bastards, far from it but I just find it all fascinating that here I am, a lad off a council estate in Sheffield, standing on the ground where someone was buried almost 150 years ago after what would likely have been a grisly demise.

The story of the two battles here don't end like the old bullshit western movies and it's a resounding two nil to Chief Joseph and his Nez Perce warriors.

Any relation to Ian Benjamin who played for us around the same time ?

Ian Benjamin: what a curious entry in United's record books he has. That last game of the season where our relegation was confirmed when we drew 2-2 with Leicester City on May 8th 1979, if it wasn't his league debut, it was certainly one of his first games for us, not surprisingly as he only played five times for us anyway. Remarkably for such a highly charged night, the youngster took both our penalties and stuck them both away. That game was also referenced by Sean Bean in-character as Father Michael Kerrigan in the 2017 BBC drama, Broken. In that he was describing to his sister (I think it was) about the first time he got drunk, explaining that "we drew 2-2 with Leicester, got relegated..." I'm certain that it was Sean Bean adding his own personal experience into the script.

And then before we'd hardly had chance to think to ourselves that we might have got a decent player on our hands with bags of guts and character, we sold Ian Benjamin to West Brom for £100,000 - a typical Harry Haslam sale.

Going back to the Leicester City game, I found this on Facebook:

It really was mayhem that night, and I clearly remember a United fan running onto the pitch and attacking one of the Leicester players.

He was the keeper who went on to play for Bradford and in the early 80s when they visited the Kop would keep this really slow mocking chant going for the whole game of "Eeeeric, Eeeeric, Generic,,,"

Seemed to really unnerve him.

I did wonder when Ian played for us, googled yesterday to find out. Tristan was born at St Kitts in 1957. Ian was born at Nottingham in 1961. Tristan's first football club was Notts County. I havent found anything that confirms Tristan and Ian are related.
