thats the mad part the donavons are what we build this club on.
Enda Stevens was league 2 player of the year
Baldock impressed at MK Dons
Henderson impressed at Shrewsbury
Duffy at Burton Albion

why have we stopped looking at the lower leagues for gems
100% agree. He seems to be a promising little player too, but if he comes here and flourishes, he's already out of our price bracket.

I prefer your shopping list.

Still pisses me off the money he’s wasted over the years. Talking nigh on 100 million with signing on fees, agents fees etc. Brewster, Freeman, Callum Robinson, McBurnie, Mousset etc etc. And look at us now. Back to him for a third bleeding time. We’re going nowhere fast, unfit has beens, no discernible style of play, no plan B when things go tits up. I wish he would go, him staying is starting to suck the soul out of the club alongside the arseholes on the Board,
Can't disagree with any of that.

us & Leicester are great examples of what happens to teams if you continue to make dreadful decisions. badly run clubs only go 1 way

i dont know what we do from here. but we need a deep dive into everything & have 1 of those questions where nothing is of the table

And Burnley are heading the same way!

In two years we will be thankful that we ended up with the chancers we did rather than Alan Pace (who if memory serves me me correctly McCabe had lined up to buy us)

I’ve read up on it and they got bought with a leveraged buy out and it’s not far off going spectacularly wrong with north of £150m worth of debt

They have been lucky to bounce back up to the Premier League at the first attempt after every relegation. No chance this season - and if you think we are screwed …. Just wait until the fallout at Burnley. Good chance they will need an even bigger firesale.

I hope I’m wrong as I’d don’t like to see it happen to anyone but I think they’ll be the first of the bigger clubs to go to the wall

No chance that the EFL will let a well known club go to the wall, as we all found out earlier this year. It's bad for the business and their brand. Bury however is a different story.

If you had been to the match you would have seen that BBD was blowing out of his arse, and Donovan not behind him at 19 and a young lad.

Who would you have replaced him with? Cal O'Hare?

But what else to do, BBD and Donovan played midweek and ran themselves into the ground

Had to change something and freshen things up, didn’t we?
Oh I agree with you both that players get tired etc and that's why we have subs.

On Tuesday CW was very upbeat about the squad we have, we clearly have a half decent 11 but no depth... Im not exactly buzzing like him. (A CW fan too)

I just don't see why he seemed like were ok but them two subs suggest were not.

Because we have a couple of players injured and Tuesday was reason to be upbeat

Defo. And actual wingers who took their men on instead on this look up and knock it back crap. We had two up top, one who could hold it up, the other who waa quick and played off him. They both battled for aerial balls and both could hold it up then lay it off. Our strikers now barely bother to challenge a ball played up.to them, have u ever seen campbell try to win a ball in the air to him? Both him and Bamford, and Cannon just back into their man and dont even challenge for the ball. I dont care of you're 5ft 4, fcking try to win a ball. Pathetic.
We have two striker up top. How many crosses do we put in for them to score?

If you do play 4-4-2 shouldn’t that be one of the main approaches?

Bring back fingering? Bring back crossing from the by-line!

Tuesday was certainly a night to be celebrating a win, but I think most fans could see it was papering over the cracks to an extent.
Of course. I don’t think anyone is realistically saying that we’re a side looking at the autos

Well er yes. The point I was making was about the lack of effort in terms of challenging for the ball from our strikers, whether that be from crosses, goal kicks, punts from the defence or any form of ball not directly aimed at their feet.

The tactical plan is lacking.

The game changing subs aren't at the club.

The creativity is nil, the players aren't in the squad.

The runners in behind aren't at the club, nor are the players to offer an outlet. Barring a 19 year old lad.

The like-for-like subs aren't at the club.

The athleticism in midfield isn't there.

The discernible patterns of play aren't there.

As a result, front foot football, risk and reward football, out run. out fight. out play. Isn't there and couldn't be further away.

That's recruitment AND tactics. Both are to blame. But I place the lion's share of the blame with the former. You cannot sell your best quality and not replace, with some of the qualities above. If the man had the tools needed to do the job, you could make a fairer assessment of where we're at. You could take him more to task in his tactics. As it is, he doesn't have the players at his disposal to put on a competitive performance, or to change it up when needed.

The blame lies with the owners for that.
This point can’t be denied.

I think the concern is only the most blindly optimistic thought we would not be losing Gus and once Brooks dropped out it was clear we would need more creativity.

O’Hare was a disruptive departure. You could align it with when MacDonald left under Weir; the team was geared up to use him and he left.

We didn’t really have a replacement for O’Hare should he get injured anyway. We should really have been looking for 2 players when Gus left; one proper left sided one and an attacking midfielder, because we don’t have any.

When you look at the recruitment, it’s been very defence oriented:

Doherty - right back
Kitching - centre back
Choudhury - defensive mid
Phillips - defensive mid
BBD - Forward
Donovan - Forward

Ironically, 4-3-3 probably suits us if we actually look at who we have.

In fact if we look at some of the history of the players we are well covered. I checked on Campbell earlier. He has a decent scoring and assist record playing out wide; something like 35 goal contributions in 50 odd games. Yet we never try him there.

We were poor away at Cardiff and Baptiste had a nightmare at full back yet he played well alongside McGuinness at centre back and Tanganga has played right back in the top division.

Yet some players have gone and yes we tried 4-4-2 to be more front footed. It didn’t work, we were outplayed 3 times even though we got 4 points.

Just learn. Forget what he gave the forwards, acknowledge what O’Hare gave the midfield. Stick another man in there and make us hard to beat. Stop learning and be stubborn and then we’ll be in trouble.
