Substitutions today were baffling.

Did nothing to change the game.
 
We were poor today no question.
Norwich deserved the win , no problems with that.
I hope the formation and individuals will be looked at after today and we find the a way that suits what we have , long way to go yet.

Dont panic and imagine that's the season gone , let's at least let the staff sort it .

Teams will soon learn …… stop Donovan play and we are fucked.
 
The worry is, it doesnt matter who plays. We look easy to defend against and easy to cut through going the other way.

Our players can't string 3 passes together unless its around the defence.

We've probably still got a top half wage budget and yet every team we come up against looks a better footballing side than us.

But at least we've got 6 CM's who like to sit back and play simple balls.
 
well my point is it frees up wide options for full backs when that happens to whip the crosses in
 
Struggling to see any sort of plan or tactical approach going into games at the moment.

We don’t seem to have any identity, obvious patterns in play and half the players are scared of the ball.

We’re sticking 11 players on the pitch either hoping they’re better than the 11 the opposition have or manage to get lucky. Only they weren’t better than the Norwich players. They were also slower, weaker and less athletic in every single position.

We might not have spent anything on fees but the loan players are not free. Doherty and Choudhury will also be on good money. BBD is slow, doesn’t create anything, offers no threat what so ever. The only one who is decent is Donnovan - who is probably the cheapest deal we did over the summer. Surely the money they’ve used on these deals could’ve been used in a better way to get some athleticism in and bring players in that suit a certain system / tactic. Not take over a £50k a week contract for a defensive midfielder to play right back because the right back you’ve already signed in the summer plays 60 minutes and disappears of the face of the earth. Wage bill will be top 8/10 no doubt but we’ll be no where near.
 
Wilder has no idea what he’s doing, how to set up his team, what his best team is, what tactics to use, how to change a game or how to build a team on a budget.

Sorry to be blunt but that’s simply the case these days.

We can blame the board as much as we like, he knew what he was walking back into and had signed and extended contract. The board aren’t telling him which players to play or formations, or giving motivational talks at half time.

We’ve got about a million defensive minded players now and and have shipped five at home. Donovan and Cooper saved our embarrassment Tuesday and we came up against someone better today.

It just feels like the players that were brought in were brought in because they were on the list.

Not because they had a need or specific role in mind for them
 
as i said on main thread that result felt like the chickens coming home to roost after years of terrible decisions. the current situation hasn't happened overnight. & im not saying anything ground breaking. that is the result of years of poor decision making finally catching up with us.

We bought badly in 2020/21, that contributed to the financial position becoming so precarious that promotion in 2022/23 felt less like a bonus & more like a necessity, because without it, who knows where the club would have ended up financially. arguably administration

That then left us as a sitting duck going into the Premier League in 2023/24. We weren't in a position to properly strengthen, while players like Berge & Ndiaye entered the final year of their contracts because we didn't have the money to extend their deals. because we couldnt even afford undersoil heating

that meant we went into the Premier League inadequately equipped, & paid the price. Then, rather than learning from those mistakes, the owners then sacked Chris Wilder & spent heavily again to back Ruben Selles & bringing in players specifically for his project. His reign was disastrous, those signings have largely failed to deliver, & now we're left with the consequences.

brings us to the real problem, recruitment. Look at the list of players, we've brought in since jan 2025 & count how many that can genuinely be described as successes. The hit rate is appalling. You cannot repeatedly get recruitment wrong, sell your best players, burn through money on replacements that don't work & then act surprised when eventually the squad isn't good enough.

i don't know what our scouting process is, because too many of our signings appear to be based on reputation, past performances, a short run of form, or simply playing well against us. A scout can get an individual player wrong. Everyone does. But when the failure rate becomes this high, eventually you stop looking at the individual signings and start questioning the process that selected them

like tom cannon 8 goals in 13 sounds brilliant. But when half of those goals came in 1 match, you're suddenly looking at 4 goals in the other 12 appearances

So when people look at a defeat like Norwich & immediately blame the players, I think they're missing the bigger picture. The players might not be good enough, that's fair enough, but they're also probably the least responsible for the fact that this is the squad we've ended up with.
 



The tactical plan is lacking.

The game changing subs aren't at the club.

The creativity is nil, the players aren't in the squad.

The runners in behind aren't at the club, nor are the players to offer an outlet. Barring a 19 year old lad.

The like-for-like subs aren't at the club.

The athleticism in midfield isn't there.

The discernible patterns of play aren't there.

As a result, front foot football, risk and reward football, out run. out fight. out play. Isn't there and couldn't be further away.

That's recruitment AND tactics. Both are to blame. But I place the lion's share of the blame with the former. You cannot sell your best quality and not replace, with some of the qualities above. If the man had the tools needed to do the job, you could make a fairer assessment of where we're at. You could take him more to task in his tactics. As it is, he doesn't have the players at his disposal to put on a competitive performance, or to change it up when needed.

The blame lies with the owners for that.

We have needed modernising at the top of the club for far too long. A proper recruitment team with (dare I say it) data, and more lucrative or affordable markets, shopping to our realistic pool, with options that are affordable and attainable. Piss off with your pursuit of Souttar that never was.

Bring me affordable pints, players with a ceiling to develop, some that may come off (we need this in the SCR world) and may perform for a few years and/or be sold to benefit the club. Those that don't make it, you flip on but in far more affordable circumstances as per Henighan, Leonard, Evans etc. Players with athleticism, hunger, who would jump at the chance to play for SUFC and see it as an opportunity in their career. We've always done better when we've not had owt. And, as Blades, we don't want for much.

Does the last 3 years with Wilder give you confidence that this will happen, there’s a good first team in there somewhere, but he’s absolutely either THICK as mince or too stubborn to drop his faves, totally frustrating. Buying players because they’ll give their all and right attitude means f’all, if they’re shit.
 
I think his HT team talk was a crate of Peroni's today.

Still pisses me off the money he’s wasted over the years. Talking nigh on 100 million with signing on fees, agents fees etc. Brewster, Freeman, Callum Robinson, McBurnie, Mousset etc etc. And look at us now. Back to him for a third bleeding time. We’re going nowhere fast, unfit has beens, no discernible style of play, no plan B when things go tits up. I wish he would go, him staying is starting to suck the soul out of the club alongside the arseholes on the Board,

Henderson impressed at Shrewsbury
Duffy at Burton Albion

why have we stopped looking at the lower leagues for gems
