If Callum O’Hare hadn’t left we wouldn’t have stopped paying his wages. I appreciate the club has not turned down opportunities to make savings but it isn’t clear they needed to absolutely take O’Hare’s fee, substantial wages and have none left to replace at all. Wilder said they’d tried. But they tried clearly too late. So if they did try ergo there must have been some cash there so that casts doubt on your second statement.
It’s not an outlandish point to suggest the club should have anticipated and had a replacement lined up for someone before you are considering selling. It’s good business practice. It doesn’t mean you have to buy first, but you can line something up.
I didn’t at any point state this has to be a fee driven acquisition.
Some realistic options:
There are free transfers and loans who went elsewhere or were/are available.
There’s a lad Ito being debated elsewhere on this site. There is the lad Gilbert who played for Boro, available on a free. Marco Richter has been released by Mainz and was getting an assist every 3 games in The German second tier. Weren’t we supposedly looking at Germany?
There’s players that didnt leave their clubs. Hull now have a 34 man squad. Players like Matt Crooks and Kieran Dowell won’t play much though Crooks was a sub for the first game.
Then there are those that went on loan; Kamari Doyle joined Leicester from Brighton on loan. Prior year he scored 4 and assisted 7 for Reading on loan. Bringing him up a level is similar to what we did with Dean Henderson. Mavididi can play as a second striker as well as winger and ended up at Watford.
On the outside looking in it appears we were reactive.
