Stan Machent. I know his niece. Used to live in Chesterfield before moving to Nottingham after she got married.

8 October 1985. Glenn Cockerill in goal for the last 20 mins of our 2nd round 2nd leg league cup tie at Luton. We lost 3-1 and 5-2 on aggregate, Cockerill conceding once. King Keith scored for us.

Cockerill was our best player as soon as we signed him and he remained so until we sold him. Class.

Why has Glenn Cockerill got goalie gloves on? dont hate me, I am a young un - only born in 71!

Was at the British Library at Boston Spa today looking at old copies of the Star among other things. Happened to land on the day Alex Sabella left. He penned a farewell (as told to Tony Pritchett, natch) and it was printed in the Star 13 May 1980. Apologies for the quality of the image. They are on film, but the film-reader displays the image on a computer monitor and the only way you can get a copy is to photograph the screen - other systems are still not working after the cyber attack of 2023.

Sabella was light years ahead of the team we had back then. He was looking to play players the ball when those players didn’t know where to run to.
