Wanting McBurnie back is so typically us. The lust for former players and managers is madness to me.

We as a fanbase get drawn into reality loops, it depressing. I said on another thread, but this fanbase lacks serious ambition. We’ve got a great club, an attractive one (in the main, barring what’s going on BTS), but we are so blinded by averageness we cannot even dare to look progressively to the future.

This is not something thats unique to us. Look at clubs up and down the pyramid and abroad. Plenty repeat players and managers and many have success doing so. Just this week I noticed Barcelona had signed Joao Cancelo for the third time in 3 years. Billy Sharp didn't do too bad on his return did he?
Fans like what they had, especially if its been fairly reliable in the past (ok maybe Mcburnie not the best example for this!) - in the same way once you get a decent plumber you tend to call him every time your boiler goes.

I agree we need to have ambition but its not just a Sheffield United thing wanting old players back.

Course, plenty of clubs have boomerang players and managers. BUT, this club is crying out for a change of identity, a new way forward, a re-birth. Yet we keep coming up with the same old ideas and personnel.

What we really need is a blank slate and a complete rebrand and strategic direction.

It's infuriating seeing McBurnie now. He wasn't always great for us but we moulded him into the player he now is, only for other clubs to get the majority of that benefit, without us even receiving a transfer fee

It feels like half of that Hull team should be playing for us as well, not just him. Slater is also an irritating one for me because I never wanted us to sell him, or at least would have taken the first chance to re-sign him

Egan has been a nice surprise, well done to him. Because I thought he was completely done at anywhere near that level

It was an absolute no brainer having sold Moore and lost the aerial dominance that he gave us in both boxes. To have the chance to get McBurnie on a free was the world’s most straightforward transfer decision. Absolutely no idea what Selles was thinking ( a theme that continued).

There was a sizeable, vocal opposition but I still felt the majority wanted him and he certainly seemed to want us (as Anel clearly did also).

We already regret McBurnie and we will go on to regret Anel. There's nothing wrong with going for ex-players when they had the club in the place we want it to go back to.

McBurnie, Slater and Egan all looked decent yesterday and fair play to them

McBurnie led the line well, absolutely bullied Man U and highlighted the problems that Man U have never really moved on from since that 2019/20 season at the lane when McBurnie and Mousset tore them to bits

Egan was solid at the back, I’d questioned him coming back from his injury as he was going backwards before that. So it’s really good to be proven wrong and whilst I don’t think he’ll be as strong against pacier sides that look to get in behind, yesterday suited him. His leadership and organisation was excellent

And Slater, that’s the best I’ve seen him play. I don’t think it was an easy decision for him to leave us, but he went to Hull in league one and has just made his PL debut, looking like he’s found his level.

With Ndiaye looking decent for Everton as well, it adds to the notion that we not only have (had) a good academy, we’ve a good history of developing players as well

I'm not arguing with you I quite liked McBurnie, I was just pointing out that alot of our fans also didn't rate McBurnie.

If the takeover went through in the summer window when we finished third McBurnie was a United player. Moore was the second option.
