I think it was at least £1m each for Nwachukwu, Polendakov, Ukaki and Caceres, and Zatterstrom and Matos were "AI" signings too, but commanded higher fees i think

Definitely remember some Blades taking leave of their senses and thinking the richest seam of unearthed footballing talent was Plopdiv in Bulgaria. A particularly seductive form of self-delusion which continued in the early defence of the Selles system not really playing with a central midfield (“Finally some excitement!”).

The only vague positive about these signings was that the mildly insulting nicknames for the players came easily - Ucacki, Nwankchukwu, Shatterstrom, etc. We’re certainly had more than our share of comedically bad players in my lifetime - Hao Hai Dong, Ten Shovels, Higgopotamus, etc.

Wasn't that Russo marvel guy the board member behind it all? He went. Wilder reinstated, bettis probably proven right with his misgivings as he was promoted to the board afterwards.

None of us will know for sure but thats the working theory.

Yes,I saw he'd made his CL debut,the game was safe by then so it made sense to give him some time.Hope he made a good impression in the time he was on.Just as an aside,Sabah FC are also known as The Owls
