I think it was at least £1m each for Nwachukwu, Polendakov, Ukaki and Caceres, and Zatterstrom and Matos were "AI" signings too, but commanded higher fees i think

A particularly seductive form of self-delusion which continued in the early defence of the Selles system not really playing with a central midfield (“Finally some excitement!”).

The only vague positive about these signings was that the mildly insulting nicknames for the players came easily - Ucacki, Nwankchukwu, Shatterstrom, etc. We’re certainly had more than our share of comedically bad players in my lifetime - Hao Hai Dong, Ten Shovels, Higgopotamus, etc.

Ten shovels was a favourite of mine. He was lauded as being some kind of bergkamp for the championship!
