The main issue is he's taking up a squad place and wages which could/should be used on someone that will actually play. Gus was always criticised for his fitness but he played more games last season than Philips has in 3 years. We were supposed to sign Philips weeks ago but he injured his thigh.

If he was the player Man City signed it's a no brainer but he'll be in and out the team all season when we need our strongest 11 out every week. Injury prone midfielders will constantly disrupt that as Wilder will shoehorn him in whenever he can.

playing our current formation, we need 3 midfielders in the centre. Usually O'hare+2.

I can see us having 2 spaces on the bench for these, which means 5 players per match are getting some game time.

A fully fit Blaster, I think easily makes a case to be playing. the Blaster we saw last season... I think struggles for game time this season.

Either that, or as per other people, might be in preparation that Peck leaves before the end of the transfer window...

Quality of this signing is not in doubt, I just hope for everyones sake he gets to boss the league, and not clutter up the injury table.

Can't wait to see him play, I really enjoyed seeing his quality in those 45 minutes we saw of him.

To add some context. Ipswich have just bought Maeda (LW) from Celtic for £10m, to add to Clarke and Philogene.

On the RW, they just bought Fatawu from Leicester for £20m, to add to Egeli that they signed last season for £17m

I struggle to see how Clarke plays for Ipswich this season, other than cup matches and the odd appearance off the bench in the PL

I was going to be hopeful because it was the last year of his deal at City only to read they gave him a 6 year deal at £150k a week . What an absolute steal for the lad.

It leaves us with a player who has barely played, will never get into Man City’s squad and will definitely not be looking to get a move at the end of the year.

Barely played, nothing to prove and (possibly) very expensive. In a position we don’t critically need anyone. It doesn’t seem inspiring but hoping the lad can make me eat my words

I did acknowledge he’s a risk and we’ll need to defy the odds, by which I meant getting him consistently fit, available and in form.

In terms of being a match winner, he’s clearly not Hamer’s replacement, he’s a different player for a different role. Peck isn’t a match winner by that definition either for example.

We also have no idea how expensive he is. What other choices do we have? Splash the cash?

He’s right in our precarious financial position we are using raised/ available funds on paying players with no future asset value to the club
We’ve wasted a lot of money when we had it on higher grade potential and loans
The rebuild should be bringing young potential assets who can step up to this level with a balance of some experience in the team

You mean the Blaster we saw in 8 out of 12 games in the championship when he had Souza next to him dictating games - he was rubbish in the other 4- I do think the hype about him is a little fantasy Island
