They're gaining nothing from the investment as clearly they wanted to get us in the Premier League asap, hence why they backed wilder heavily in Jan 2025. Now, they've realised the money pit that owning s football club is, they're unable to keep pouring money in, hence the need to sell

Philips and Rothwell were awful business. Really were.

We’d been on a decent run and with the right business we might have had a push. Our midfielders were on their arse with niggles and fatigue but they decide to bring in two midfielders who were at best weeks away from being impactful to the first team.

We did the same thing in the 92 point season we knew we needed a CH on Boxing Day 24 we spent the money on a striker we didn’t really need as our strength had been defence and individual quality
6 weeks to find a CH with money to spend
But we fetched a CH in on the last day of the window - one who hadn’t played a competitive game for 2 years and even though he was better than mr Long Throw hardly got a game

Wilder has had us competing every single season that he's been at from the start, and been given the opportunity to build a squad and gel it together. That would normally be cause for optimism. This one does feel different though, we've been skint before but this window really does feel like he's not able to do anything unless we sell important players (and even then we can't do a lot). We'll see at the end of the window, but it might well need a miracle to get this squad in the top 8, especially with the general feel around the place.

That’s not asset stripping though. That’s selling assets to fund operations, they need the team in the PL to get any kind of return on their investment. All they’re doing now is cutting their cloth having failed to reach the PL with parachute money coming in.

Asset stripping would involve selling the assets to provide themselves money. If they do that they’d either have to find the money needed to run the club from lenders, or take a significant hit on their initial investment as the club would be worth a lot less than they paid. They’d also have to pay a lot of tax if they took a large amount out of the club, not a very efficient way to try and claw money back.

The main way to asset strip would be to buy a business for much less than it’s worth, sell off the assets and cash in on the proceeds. There’s no evidence to suggest they’re doing this, and they certainly didn’t underpay for the club.

After that you either sell what’s left for around the initial amount, or ditch it with a load of debt. As most purchases require a personal guarantee the second option would leave them out of pocket personally.

COH are clearly not getting anywhere near £100m for the club anymore and I don’t think they’re doing a runner and reneging on personal guarantees.

They’ve basically made a bad investment and don’t know enough about running a football club to get themselves out of the mess. The ideal for us is that they cut their losses and sell for a lot less than they paid. The other option is not going to be good for us as it’s the law of diminishing returns.

Its frustrating to see that we've not bought a single winger permanently since switching to wingers, however. Yet have sold 2 this summer alone..

No worries. Sorry if it’s OTT, it’s a complex subject.

Unfortunately, selling our best players because the commercial side of the club and its owners don’t know their Messi from their Cannon, isn’t asset stripping. It’s just incompetence.

Thats true, also, it stems from what Wilder and the coaches are telling them. Clearly sees cannon as a big part of his squad

It would be extremely stupid to think we can’t go down this season. Football’s a strange sport, where momentum and attitude plays a big part and before anyone kicks a ball anyone can go up or down from the championship.

I do worry for our squad 100%.

RB: Seriki, Brill but I think he’ll leave
CB: Tanganga, solid

CM: Peck, ok but will leave I think!
CM: Jairo, Blaster, solid players. Rothwell

LW: Chong, got a lot to do. Bad last season but I think weirdly can do ok.
ST: Bamford, Campbell, Cannon. Can either be good or bad!

Cooper isn’t solid, he was poor last season and at the end of the one before that.
