Having ruminated on this for a while it’s in line with my expectations.

I reckon we’ve still got a £5m shortfall. Selling Peck for £10-15m is the key as that gives is the funds to reinvest.

If you’re right, I wonder why Wilder was so bullish about this season. As a parachute club, we had two bites at the cherry and failed. Unless the owners go big, this season was always the impossible ask in terms of promotion.

Good post - but I don’t think there is as much interest in Peck as there thought there would be. More likely it Seriki will be sold - as 2 offers from the sane club already so even if say £2 million upfront & £4 million after 12 months - I can see that happening. Seriki’s head has been turned & his agent will be on it!

They won't get seriki for that sort of deal

If we sold Seriki for anything less than £15-20m it'd be an absolute disgrace, in my opinion. The lad was our most important player in half our matches last season and is only a young English right back.

I don't think many on here understand football club ownership models unfortunately.
We don't have an ownership model. You think its a good thing that we're consistently loaning players in and not signing players permanently to replace those that leave? Since we've gone to playing with Wingers in Wilder 3.0 below are the wingers we've signed -
Rak Sakyi - Loan
BBD - Loan
Barry - Loan
Ogbene - Loan
Donovan - Loan
Chong - Permanent.

One permanent signing for two positions on the pitch. Now tell me what model is that? Because its certainly not player trading, which involves buying at a low price to potentially sell at a higher, for example Norwich with Nunez, Sargent or Swansea with Galbraith and likely Vipotnik. We are literally taking our permanent assets, and replacing with nothing that is ours.
So your statement is correct, just in reference to yourself and the person you've quoted.

How would Seriki be worth that? He's not played more than 30 games a season yet... He's not even had a breakthrough season. He's good, but not worth that, and unfortunately we only have a year left on his deal with an option, so we're not going to be able to command that fee.
Peck is the only one we could command a fee like that for, potentially, as his contract is long. Arblaster would have, prior to his injury.

There's a couple on that list not down to wilder

Its not down to selles either, the constants are still at the club... Bettis, Hoyland etc, don't tell me you think recruitment is done by the managers still. Says it enough times in press conferences that its down to those guys

He's worth it. His ceiling is massive. He's Maguire levels of potential IMO, in that a medium sized PL team will pay 7 figures and sell him for double to a top six PL Club or onto an Elite Europe Club. Put him into a team that isn't comprised of Bomb scares and hits natural game will blossom. When he's is full flow, he's unplayable by most.

Thing is, hes a very late bloomer, hes same age as Tom Cannon, and because we paid a fee for TC he gets pelters, but Seriki as he's one of our own gets an easier ride, but I'd hardly think a rb will command a high fee.

Nonsense. Agree he's the age he is, but it's a meaningless metric if he's durable (which he is) and remains available.

The likes of Walker, Cole, Cafu, Lahm, Alves would like a word about the relative value of a wingback/RB/LB.

You’ll be disappointed, there’s no way anyone pays us that much for Seriki. If we get £5m-£8m for him I’d be amazed. Hopefully we keep him, otherwise we get a Gilchrist/Clarke type replacement and it becomes another position where we’re too slow and lack athleticism.

As another expensive full back would say "there's levels to this game". If in 10 years Seriki reaches those levels, come back to me.

Do you think Bettis has any say in budgets or football decisions? Do you think Hoyland or previously Mitchell were working without a plan from above??

Breaking News now on Sky Sports.

Fee agreed £6m + add ons

I think that fee is fair enough. We should have been having the sign a new contract or we look to sell you conversations 12 months ago whrn he still had 2 years on his contract. But we let him roll it down to 1 year.... and here we are.

That's basically a free transfer for a Prem team. Congrats Blades staff.

Maybe so, but when you consider his current wage will probably be another £1.5m for the remainder of his contract, that equates to £7.5m to write off on an unhappy player who wants to go, if we turn it down. Thats a lot of money to write off for a skint championship club.

Yes and no. When it condemns us to more likely scrapping at the bottom than the top (half), we should have drawn a line in the sand. Coventry can afford £10m. And they can't get many better players than him, certainly not that know the club and is already loved by the fans.

A Poxy 6 Million - City are holding out for 75 million for Rodri. It feels like we are on a par with the likes of Oxford.
