In short, no he can’t. Not because i dont think hes good enough as a manager but because of the squad he has & a clear financial issue to be able to sign players.

The squad back in 18/19 had leaders throughout, they probably wasn’t all the most talented but they were a team that connected.

You don’t go up with Baptiste, Seriki, McCallum & Tanganga as your back 4.

The last promotion we were also solid through the middle, we had leaders & the added talents of Mcatee, Berge & Ndiaye

As things stand, we are going to finish below where we did last season because the squad is weaker. This isn’t bed wetting - it’s a logical assumption based on losing Hamer and Brooks. Not going up vs Sunderland, the ridiculous waste of money last summer and squad cost ratio has pretty much condemned us to at least a few years in the wilderness and that could well involve a relegation battle if the next few weeks of the window are poor.

Theres a world where its possible to believe the 9th place season to be a miracle (it absolutely was) but to also have a critical view of later years.

To anyone who swallowed the “things are going to be different” narrative, based on what though?

It was a sales pitch pure and simple. Like the youtube adverts making out the latest sweatshop crap is miraculous.

We’re skint, and just lost a significant portion of our income. We need to block out the misinformation and face facts.

We’ve lost goals and creativity with the sales of these two players

If we don’t replace with potential goals and creativity we are in serious trouble.

We’ve got a defence that leaks goals and a lack of goal scorers in the team.

It’s not rocket science to work out how this season is going to go currently.

If we are relying on an aging Bamford to play every game we are delusional.

If we think cannon is going to turn a corner we will be waiting a long time.

And One is too young and untested.

This is what we need as a bare minimum.

X 1 striker
X 1 creative midfielder
X 1 CB

Ideally we also need

X 1 wide player
X 1 CB

I personally don’t thing we will get what we need.

Loans and frees are low risk in one aspect but riskier in others.

The preseason yes. But i do think he should be starting, ahead of Peck. I dont see what Peck does if im honest.

On Friday my head was here, but trying to be positive and take something said on Friday ‘we need to get more out of what we have’ bloody right we do.

Cooper - one of the best keepers in the league, poor last season. Yes injuries but needs to be at a higher level.

Tanganga - arguably the 3rd/4th best cb previous season at Millwall. Bang average last.

Burrows - nowhere near the levels of the previous

Arblaster - let’s be honest he was diabolical last season. Gets a bit of a pass but Miles off it. Hopefully the extra time means he can lift his levels and has recovered.

Campbell - another whose levels fell off

McGuinness - looked league one levels. As much as I don’t like him, he’s so slow but he looked a mid level champ player at Cardiff.

Chong - offered nothing. Again shown he can be a decent championship level player.

Rothwell - dire last season. Operated as a main asset in promoted side the year before.

Cannon- now might be off but surely something in there….

Every single one of the above has more, and the manager needs to extract it.

Peck, ohare, bamford seriki, jaro all capable of playing for anyone at this level for me. Then throw in an improved one and Donovan (who I’ve never seen in the flesh but blind hope). It’s not catastrophic yet.

Looking at the squads with a decent cb loan, and 2/3x creativity that 6-8th shouldn’t be out of reach, so many middle of the road clubs.

The above is probably positive spin/ridiculous blind faith but the season comes down to how much can wilder get out of those who under performed last season, and can we get in some good loans. It’s not all doom and gloom yet for me.

Peck usually does all of central midfield as Rothwell doesn't move or Jairo is pissing about behind the centre backs. Peck and Arblaster unfortunately don't work well together, so it has to be one or the other.

Interesting analogy but those are suggesting that a crap product is great wheras we were given the hope that things would change for the better. Again not misinformation just not what we want to hear, we tend to make our decisions based on all info available to us.

Agree about facing facts but the "misinformation" rubbish is pure social media trash to seek to confuse people and anger them so that they do the work of others for them.

I’d be delighted to be proven wrong. It's not really about being proven wrong. All businesses "oversell" their product. Anyone who takes the overselling at face value is naive and needs to look at their own approach to decision making.

I'm deeply concerned about where we are, but let's give them the opportunity to take us forward into this season, and after the window, we can begin to reflect and take stock. Let's face it, Wilder needs to get it right, or he's toast.

My prediction for the season is boringly lower mid-table.

A slow and dull start with not many goals and more draws than wins.

Followed by an uptick of three or four games before Christmas where it looks like they've all remembered how to play football, coincidentally timed to quell the talks of getting a new manager in before the January transfer window.

Someone inevitably posts a gushing thread about the charge for the automatic places being on.

The only business in January is an ageing journeyman brought in who we won't see actually play until April. O'Hare leaves after downing tools because he misses Gus too much to function.

Revert to form from February onwards, grinding out narrow victories and indifferent losses before limping over the line on 1st May.

Wilder claims it was "unlucky".

I'm hopeful that now he has lost the player who dug his mind numbing tactics out numerous times last season will now allow for a tweak to make it more enjoyable.

1 up front with 2 wingers on the wing of their weaker foot whose first instinct is to turn back and play the safe easy past helps us to win the overall % of the ball game, but it boring, predictable and exceptionally easy to defend against.

This and having two full backs who cant defend and two centre halves dont dominate.....

Besides all that, I'm looking forward to today and next Saturday!

Wait and see how things pan out and how we play.

Hamer is quality but we performed without him at times last season.
We also performed without Brooks as well. We have at least brought in Donovan to replace Brooks this season so far.
Hamer will be loss though from this very moment in time if he leaves. I'd like to see us bring in a proper winger as replacement if possible.

But with some additions (Post Gus leaving and/or loans) we could have a side capable of top 6 or 8 if they do perform to the levels we have seen before or better.
Or we could be in for a tough season down the bottom. Or somewhere in the middle.

It's friday can some fans just go and have a pint and wait and see what happens?

Seriously how confident are You of players coming in I see a few loans at best no offence to donavon but if that’s our type of player we are in deep deep trouble
