Danny Hall!

Didnt know that, had a quick look and seems he really only posted about books/events/kits, Doesn’t look like he tried to hide who he was either. I’d imagine he has another account just to blend in and talk about United as a fan.

Why did he stop posting, was he getting grief?

What Danny did was petty and pathetic, he literally leaked a private message because someone was being critical of local journalists. It wasn't some abusive tirade directly aimed at him, it was a very tame general critique of the local press. I do agree that abuse of journalists is wrong for the most part, I am sure many get a stupid amount of needless direct abuse but I do think a line is crossed when you leak private messages just out of pure spite.

Like I said before earlier in this thread there are reasons the Paul Walker's and the Nathan Hemmingham's are doing well in their careers and the Danny Hall's of this world are pay walling clickbait.

Danny knows he made himself look an idiot since he has deleted the post. I will be surprised if he bothered to apologise to Chris for posting it though.

To be fair I’d not actually seen the post he deleted when I replied. And I’m sure it’s not his finest hour.

I’d just suggest that taking vitriol from people over the internet all day everyday - wouldn’t be a shock for them to give some back occasionally.

Like I say peoples brains are broken and social media has allowed a level of access to people that certain individuals are not able to cope with and shouldn’t have.

What’s the phrase

‘If you meet an arsehole in the morning, you met an arsehole. You meet an arsehole on the afternoon, you met an arsehole. If you’re meeting arseholes all day everyday - perhaps it’s you that’s the arsehole’

Was it Sutcliffe (not Peter) who uncovered the whole Henry Mauriss stuff? I think it was The Athletic anyway. I believe there is room for different kinds of journalism but I do think we are missing an investigate reporter. We still have no real idea what happened with Alan Knill or why the board all suddenly resigned last year. The local media seemed well behind in knowing Wilder had been sacked last year too when it was an open secret for weeks. I suppose a media outlet like The Star can't report something that hasn't actually happened but Radio Sheffield broke lots of news about Wednesday last season.

Maybe United just aren't big enough for any journalist to bother getting involved with in terms of off the pitch stuff. I know Nathan Hemmingham Hemmingway got a lot of good stuff when he was around but most stuff we get now comes from people on this site or Jimmy Ramble and you never know who's talking bollocks.

I think there is a role for a reporter type but when there's so much off pitch uncertainty, it's obvious why fans get frustrated with traditional media.

Untill a few years ago I was a journalist in the financial and legal sector. All reporters at our company were told that they had to have X accounts and post regularly. We always were supposed to link to our published (often paywalled) articles, and try to engage in debate to 'create buzz'. I imagine that Reach media group has a similar policy.

As we know, it's not easy to remain polite and good-natured all the time on social media. Most people have an occasional meltdown and post things they regret. Danny Hall will be no exception. He gets a lot of abuse on social media and especially on this forum. I'd be very surprised if he didn't lose his rag occasionally.

Sure he's got his faults like the rest of us, but I don't get the hate - not only for him, but for Station, Biggs etc. They are local journos on a poor wage, they're not Woodward or Bernstein. Danny's not going to fly to Ohio and track down our owners regardless of what some fans are saying.

Agreed. Many of us would love to see more investigate and critical reporting. But who's going to pay someone to do it?

I remember the Athletic covered the failed Dozy takeover in depth, but it won't have been particularly interesting for people outside Sheffield.

The hate this time is from leaking a private message from a year ago out of pure spite because he assumed someone was being critical of him directly. That's a line crossed which ever way you want to spin it and one I think a decent journalist shouldn't cross.

The local press get a lot of crap because they are behind the news more often than not, national press or local press elsewhere are ahead of them. Then in the next breath they paywall a nothing clickbait article.

Seriously we don't know how good we had it when Nathan Hemmingham was actually as Roygbiv said doing some investigative journalism rather than just passing little tit bits the manager gave him as a big scoop.

I like the way Rob thinks he is having his content stolen when no one is stealing it. 😄
