He’d been with us since he was a young kid, he loved the club and the fans, and he’d surely have been “open to contract talks” if he’d felt any optimism about where we were going. But he wasn’t open to talks. And you think back to his comments in the short-lived Selles era about appreciating the change in coaching methods which the arrival of Selles had brought about.

Wilder’s comment shows a worrying (and, I’m sorry to say, typical) lack of self-awareness on his part. He’s become a significant part of the problem.

But how do we change it? I know I'm gonna get a reaction from certain parts of the fanbase for this, but if CW doesn't achieve this season, how long do we just leave him hanging around here before the damage is irreparable?

The whole presser reeks of someone who is genuinely unsure what to do now. He doesn't seem sure of what squad he wants and who he wants, and we will probably see that by about 3 games in - but if that's the case, what's the next step?

We tried something new with Selles - it didn't work. So do we just keep CW forever? What's the next step?

Will lose loyalty bonus if he requests a transfer. Good chance that’s a sizeable chunk of money due to his contract and being signed as a prem player. So he won’t formally request a transfer

Absolutely.

I don't blame Brooks at all, maybe don't have numerous digs and criticism at the player in post match interviews, especially when it's not justified.

And don't leave contract discussions to the last year, maybe if a young player is showing rapid signs of improvement get them on a new contract that reflects their status and ability earlier.

I bet Cannon was on vastly bigger wages than Brooks was on, but they are a similar age and in terms of transfer value, Brooks is worth more. We're never getting close to £8m plus add-ons for Cannon.

I'm really surpised Seriki is still here tbh. I wouldn't at all be surprised if doesn't sign a new contract here either whilst Wilder is around.

The problem we have is mltiple owners who (to be fair) have to be informed should there be any developments. Clearly we are waiting for Gus to go before we sign anyone and the initial offer is wide of what we want.
We won't get anything like £10 million - probably been offered around £4-5 million and any change to the offer goes back to the owners and the delay is compunded by the time difference.
I expect we will accept £5 million over the weekend and then rush around next week with trying to find replacements.
I feared a couple of years ago we would become another West Brom/Stoke and hover around the second tier mid-table....our time in the sun is over for some time now.

Thing with Brooks was I think it's two fold.

I don't think we wanted to sell him this summer BUT I think the club feel that he won't go on to progress very high up the chain. (This could be wrong of course)
From my understanding we offered him new deals this year but they weren't high enough and his agent had heard of Norwich's interest and wage offering. Which was quite a bit higher than ours.
Now it's fair to say how can Norwich spend that cash and offer him more. But they had already lowered their overall wage bill and sold Sargaent for £18m or whatever.

I wouldn't read too much into his interview after Selles was appointed, that is just a very typical "new manager" interview.

Disagree totally - I honestly think it was one of the most depressing interviews i have seen in 55 years of going through the turnstiles at BDTBL, closely followed by the one referenced on a thread above .

On the verge of a new season . From a bloke who is usually upbeat and optimistic. Who actively told the world three weeks or so ago that there were two players signing which would excite the fans .

This board absolutely shot themselves, and the club, in the foot - head - bolloc@s etc when they sacked Wilder last close season - without any sort of plan and effective process . If they had kept Wilder and added a couple of players he wanted to the squad we had already - then there would have been an excellent chance of us being promoted.

He’s made some sly digs here & there at the board but none on the scale you’d expect for how poor this summer has been. They’ve somehow given him a new contract & he knows he won’t get a top end Champ job again, so I think he’ll just wait it out with uninterested owners until we finally move on from him.
