Better when he came in his first season, amazing stuff. Always felt in the second season we were too inconsistent and the players and him enjoyed boozing too much. Took them away to get pissed before the play-off final.
Were they dancing on the tables in the Banner Cross. Yawn.

What’s a proper wilder pre- season ?
Walk about v chesterfield and v Rotherham trialist don’t drink and drive courses and Dietary programmes by Hamer based on the Mouset Diet
He talked a lot about players not being fit when he came back in last season, and seemed to be lamenting that pre-season wasn't intense enough under Selles.

Friendlies are where the actual work happens in pre-season. Most players don't even make 90mins in them, and they're always fairly pedestrian. My understanding is that Wilder gets the players doing a lot more physical work in the gym and the training ground, and whilst I know we've called out how often players tend to break down under him, I think he values players that can go full-tilt for 90mins so that reflects on how he organises pre-season.

God knows what Selles had them doing last summer...

Chris Morgan, who is an agent these days, was on radio commentary and mentioned players had spoken to him about how they felt pre season didn't prepare them for the physical demands as it was more technical based.

It would be nice if players took a bit more responsibility for their own physical conditioning, given their bodies are literally the tools of their trade. John Lundstram was a great example of doing this during the summer of 2019 and it paid huge dividends for him.

I heard the same from someone around the club. Lot of time spent with the ball on the assumption that players were responsible enough to look after their own physical conditioning. Hopefully a lesson learnt for a young coach.

videos of him and Billy out in /dubai training like maniacs, if i recall correctly

Apart from taking the team for a week long piss up instead of training before the Play Off Final v Palace….and then wondering why the team played like they’d been on the piss for a week.
And whilst pissed telling some players they'd be fucked off if we won

Oldest managerial trick in the book to buy time, come in and suggest the players aren’t fit enough!

Been done since the year dot 🤣

This signing ,loan whatever, can go a number of ways. He becomes a cult hero after not missing a game and playing through injuries etc. Yea no!!! He does well in most games, has a big impact on the younger lads, probable.
Makes about half the games, good but has lost a step and not the impact we had hoped, most probable. Only plays a handful of games, career over.
It's a risk bringing him in and I hope he has a major impact on and off the field. It's all up to him.

Is it even happening??
Everything has gone quiet

I'd be fine with adding him as another midfield option. But if he's meant to replace Peck then I'll be worried.

He's busy having his hair braided before the signing vid - it takes ages , i have get up around 4am to do mine and be ready for the 221 bus to Dinnington library
There's no football motivational books mate , I've burnt them all.

To be fair, Selles could have come in and said exactly the same, because if anything there's a pattern with Wilders teams and fitness over the past 5 years or so.

Everything in place. Failed medical as he was half a stone overweight. Needs to lose this before we can sign him. Allegedly...
