JRS out of contract next Summer (although, Palace probably have an option).

I still think we could do a lot worse. There's a really good player in there.

Yes please.

I really liked him. His attacking and defensive numbers stacked up extremely well against the rest of the division despite playing ahead of Gilchrist who got a nose bleed upon approaching the half way line. He was therefore constantly doubled up on and we always had the habit of fucking about with 17 passes before playing it to him. We hardly ever stuck him through with a pass to run on to

I can’t see it though. Once wilder got BBD in his favoured him out of position over JRS and left JRS totally out the Wembley squad.

I’d take him back tomorrow but I think he’s been getting game time at Palace during pre-season. Maybe he’s getting a chance now Glasner has gone?

He's a really good winger, particularly at this level. Did really well for us.

But as Wilder completely dropped him out of the team for the playoff final, it probably suggests(?) Wilder won't get him back under any circumstance.

BBD came on though. 🤣🤦

Bar the play-off semi final games, Wilder completely lost it towards the end of that season. His decision making was just bizarre.

Does it ever get tiring being that constantly negative despite evidence to the contrary?

I rated JRS (now and whilst he was here) and don't rate Chong (before we signed him and since).

One player had a very decent G/A output for us, the other did what exactly?

... and what's the evidence to the contrary?

I think this perception of him is a little outdated now. He had a good World Cup for Curaçao and has looked capable and lively for us so far in preseason.
I think you are right Enigmatic maybe he took a little more time to settle in when he first arrived ,he certainly had a good game at Derby
I think he is one to persevere with and maybe play him a bit more central bearing in mind it is a squad game and he could useful from the bench

JRS was absolutely abysmal last season at Stoke, and hasn't shown any signs of improvement

Chong had moments, had a very good WC and has seemingly kicked on.

JRS has regressed as a player since we last had him, Chong is improving

I don't pay attention to pre-season form as I don't think it's a great indicator.

Ignoring stats, I can see from watching Blades matches which player is better and has a higher ceiling. It isn't Chong.
His output was poor last season and he's on too long of a contract. He'll be tricky to shift, but I only see him as dead wood in the same way I do McGuinness.

Would love to see Rak-Sakyi playing with Seriki rather than Gilchrist, Clarke or Choudhary.

I'm literally telling you, without even mentioning his preseason - JRS was awful last season. At least Chong contributed. The main word thrown about regarding him by my GF and her family (all Stoke fans) was "lazy"

Captain isn't always negative. But when he does say negative things, someone always highlights it.

We all say plenty of negative things about the club, whether frequently or infrequently.

I think he gets an unfair amount of stick for it, year in year out. Says plenty of constructive and positive things as well.

Chong contributed? How exactly? Unless you’re saying he contributed to a terrible season, which I’d agree with, he helped ensure we were shite.

JRS was fantastic in very short bursts but unless my memory is failing completely (quite possible), he was mostly very frustrating because he regularly drifted out of games completely.
As a youngster that’s maybe to be expected but Stoke fans seem to have seen similar.

Lots of our fans said the same, but his numbers during out time were excellent and our form fell off a cliff when he was taken out of the team.

When you have 2 fanbases saying that a player is lazy, there might be something in it

I think he unfortunate body language and a (seemingly) very insular personality lend themselves to that narrative.

However, his defensive stats (surprisingly) were amongst the best in the division in his season with us, as was his attacking output.

He is inconsistent and like a lot of wingers, can drift out of games and appear anonymous for spells.. but a poor loan spell with Stoke City (a club that rarely does anything), wouldn't convince me that his trajectory can't be reversed given his young age.
His end product was far better than Brooks. I would've put my house on him bagging that big chance at Wembley for example.

Appreciated buddy, it does get tiresome.

From memory Chong barely contributed three good halves.

Pompey at home, QPR away, and Derby on the last day.

Take out the season with us - his most recent season was fucking dire, and we shouldn't be touching him

You're all complaining that we're not signing proven players, and then want someone who's proven to struggle at this level?

Did his loan deal extend that late in the season though?
