He was a kid who barely played wasn't he, like Egan

I'm taking the piss a bit with Batth but someone like that as a 4th choice CB would be ideal

My idea would be to offer Leicester Cannon for the season and we take Souttar on loan plus £1/1.5m with the option to buy in 12 months. That way they both players return to a familiar set up

Why are people obsessed with getting rid of our 2nd choice striker?

People forget that he's only 8 months older than Jebbison and Osula.

If he'd had come through the ranks, most would be demanding we build a team around him

This is what I keep saying. Gets treat different cause of the ridiculous fee we paid for him.

I still think there's summat there to be had, but he has to do it this season.

Axel Tuanzebe is still a free agent but it sounds like Burnley are trying to re-sign him.

someone coming through the ranks wouldn’t have cost £10m. For all that cannon has contributed we’d have been better saving the money and playing Oné and Marsh.

If your commanding big fees you can’t be using the youth argument.

We signed Cannon when he was 22yo with 20 Championship goals under his belt.

Newcastle bought Osula at 20yo with 2x League One goals under his belt.

My point is that people were clamouring for Osula to be starting, or at least part of the first team... as they are again with Ryan One.
Yet at 20yo, Cannon has much more experience and goals than they did at the same age.

If Cannon hadn't been paid for, people would have tons more patience with him. He's still young

Based on what we’d seen at the time, save for a single match where Cannon scored four or five, I personally would’ve gone with Osula, he had/has superior traits in almost every aspect, taller, quicker, ability to strike a ball, actually has some form of brain capacity.

I’d have more patience with Cannon if he even slightly resembled a footballer, he’s akin to a budgie who’s been stuck up front.

In the flesh you don’t see what he brings.

Osula was able to run at defenders with pace and even as a teen didnt mind mixing it physically.

What does Cannon bring? I’m not mocking him. It’s actually a genuine question. What are his attributes supposed to be? What does he bring to this Sheffield United team? ‘Once scored a few for Stoke’ can’t be one of them.

One goal that sticks out for me with Osula… yes, it was against York City, but to cut inside, show a bit of trickery to create space then place the ball from outside the box, quality finish. Something I’ve not seen from Cannon.

Truthfully I don’t know what he brings, he can’t hold up play, make runs, occupy defenders or do anything remotely like what you’d expect a striker to do. I get he’s young, but he doesn’t have the intelligence to learn. At the minute, he’s dead weight as he offers the square root of fuck all.

We need Kevin De Bruyne to play the around the last defender through balls.

Cannon is ALWAYS on the shoulder of the last defender leaning to make the run. We just don't have anybody to play the weighted through ball, other than Hamer

Fair comment I can't put my finger on what's holding him back, he's definitely a player both physically and skilled. My lad says he's lacking confidence and could probably do with someone like Billy doing one on one individual training.

Indeed. Can see in friendly highlights that Cannon makes runs behind. And that's not new.

I think Cannon might surprise a lot of people this season. Funnily enough, he's not awful.

Goals at Hillsborough and Swansea at home were good shots from outside the box.
The exception to rule unfortunately, hope I'm wrong but you can see him only leaving us when his contract is up.

Why has no one else come in for him? Why did Newcastle decide that £15m was better spent on Osula when Cannon was available for less?

He's not very good, he contributes nothing outside of having a really hard shot, he's one of the top earners, he's costing us £3m a year in fees alone... Get rid.

Depending on his wages but would Chris smalling be a good punt at this level? Knows Phil jones too so could be motivated to play knowing his mate is on our coaching staff?
