I’m not sure he’s a Wilder sort of player and he used him last season out of necessity because he’d fallen out with Ben Mee.
There was no fall out with Mee
Ben had injury issues and his general level of fitness dropped hence his retirement from the game
McGuiness is very popular behind the scenes, no issues with the Charity game, it just hasnt worked out as some transfers dont
A fab pro who deserves a decent move
Cardiff showing interest I hear

Not that im ITK by any long shot, but I'd been told he could have triggered a one year extension had he played another game.

McGuinness I'm genuinely gutted about. I think as a rotational option he would be fine. Cardiff would be ideal for him.

Still one of the weirdest signings, but could have been great had he not fucked off to be on Sidemen

Sorry I clearly missed this at the time, but how did appearing on that show change things?

I thought he described Wilder as a dinosaur.

Sadly, apparently, has been told not in CW plans for the next season.
🎙️ Chris Wilder on McGuinness starting the last 2 games over Bindon"Mark got put back in to the team because we felt we needed to change the team around. I think he's been really good in those couple of games. He did everything he had to do at Bristol City and then it was a difficult afternoon against Oli Mac. He's done enough in training, good personality and character so he's in the team on merit. He's under contract for another 2 or 3 years."[sutv]#twitterblades #sufc

He should make his mind up:

"Mark's not part of the plans going forward but while he's contracted to Sheffield United and if he's here when the window shuts, he'll be part of the first team but I don't see him starting for us. It's an area where I'm looking to change, in a different way to last season."

That was posted a few hours ago. I saw the interview a few days ago where he said Mark was surplus to requirements. I couldn't believe how blunt he was. He has no idea re diplomacy - I've always liked him but I'm beginning to have my doubts. How does he expect to get a performance out of him (if he's not moved on), having come out with that statement?

Was hardly going to come out and say how shit he is and he doesnt see him as part of the team when theres still matches left to play is he...

I heard they had a falling out and thats why he was dropped but we ended up with injury to someone and so had to swallow his pride and play him... think it was around the charlton away game? With what had been said/gone off kind of knew his days with us was numbered.

Most of the top managers have to be ruthless, its a cut throat business why beat around the bush?

What is there to be gutted about McGuinness? Hes not very good.

Hes soft as shit especially for his size, hes slower than an oil tanker at turning and slow in general, hes not very good with the ball and positionally not great and has too many lapses in concentration.

Only up side to him is hes 6ft4 and can head the ball.... hes nothing more than a league one cb.

Just feels very odd this. Wilder had no issue with him, was using him fairly regularly last season and then all of a sudden - didn't want to use him and now wants him gone?
He'd probably forgotten he didn't sign him.

In a deleted reply to me on Instagram, Mee confirmed he's been dropped before the sidemen stuff

The fact that i actually support my club and the players that play for them. I actually want them to do well, rather than just slag them off on a forum to get a couple of likes.

Oh right so you've never said any player is rubbish thats played for us?

What an absolute ridiculous reply.

I too support my club and want the best footballers for us. Im not happy to see dross play for us unlike some. People like you at the club are the reason we are old fashioned and stuck in us ways. Happy to have whats left at bottom of the barrel.

Suppose you thought last season was fine under selles? Or season in prem? Hope you didnt say a bad word against any managers or players.

It seems our manager sees it the same way.... bur I suppose he doesnt wsnt the bsst for his club either or the playerd to do well and wants a few thumbs up from press conference.

So if McGuiness doesn't move on and has to play next season we all know he's been thrown under the bus. I don't see anything wrong in CW privately telling him that he's not in his plans but to broadcast it to all and sundry (as he did) doesn't seem very clever to me.

It’s also not great for selling, no club are going to make a market value offer when they know he’s not wanted or valued…

Like selling your house with a description of

It’s a bit of a shithole in a crap area and we hate living here

Queue shite offers

Could possibly have done it in private but again was he putting it out there for anyone listening as a come and get him...

I do agree that interview was very blunt and to the point (actually refreshingly blunt).

But during that interview he already covered if hes still here that he wont be starting.

His name would have been circulated and agents will be doing their jobs. So all clubs will know he’s available. Mark will know where he stands. Therefore it won’t affect anything at all.

Look, he’s a good lad and a decent pro, not sure he fits into my plans but as with all players if the right offer comes in we’d consider it

Diplomatic our Chris is not

Fwiw, he’s ok back up, maybe a couple of mil and get him off wages is right, but fuck me we’ve had worse

It was an honest interview which is what I want and expect. He isn’t saying it to the public first, he’s updating fans on his opinion and plans without disclosing any confidentialities.
Before this we could only guess at what the plans are as we’d genuinely no idea.
Now we know he’s of the same opinion as most fans (also said we need someone for the left) so they are prioritising the exact positions most on here want them to.

Now just let them get on with it.

Maybe Wilder just thought that it wasn't very professional of Ben Mee to announce his retirement from football mid Mansfield Town counter attack. Then jumping on some sad YouTube show won't have helped.

Wilder must not have been concentrating on the game if he could hear Mee quitting during a counter attack, lazy bugger

Obviously I’m joking

Didn't he put both Coutts and K. Freeman on the transfer list when he first became manager in 2016?

Just being announced. I also think it's wrong, and stupid - not as bad as he's made out to be, just not stellar
He’s effing bobbar. We could see that before he arrived (I thought it was great when he was named in the Cardiff or Pogs side to play us) and we’ve witnessed how useless he is on the flesh. Utter garbage. Get rid.

He's no idea re diplomacy ?
He's no idea what he wants , more like.
If you follow his utterances over a period , he's quite inconsistent.
He's also stubborn and his falling out with players is too frequent.
He brings players in and then barely plays them.
I genuinely think he's so gutted by our demise since that awful 23/24 season , it's taking a toll on his thinking & decisions.
