Sell an athletic player with limitations and bring in a slow player who brings stability.
Perhaps both these transactions should be viewed in the context of all transfers in the next 2 months.

Whilst in principle i agree, the fact remains, our biggest issue last season was a real lack of any kind of athelticslism, and we're already one down and it's not even July....

For what it’s worth, as I wade through all the doom and gloom… I think Jairo is a great player. We looked 10x better when he was on the pitch last season. He wins the ball and breaks up play. My only niggle with him was when he’d drop too deep. If he can improve his fitness levels and play as a proper #6, he’ll be very useful for us this season

This isn't meant as an insult to either player but he is a technically better but less fit version of Monty, both were good at doing the simple stuff really well and often that goes under the radar. Bamford rightly will get the plaudits for goals scored but sometimes you just need players in there that can break up play and set-up the next phase, with a short pass being consistent and accurate. To be fair to Jairo, although he missed August-Mid October before he signed and missed the last few matches as not selected as not part of the plan, he still managed to play 25 times for us, if we can sign or have a formation which means we are rotating our DM's, we could be well covered there.

I think this is a good move. I thought he was brilliant at times last season. He’s a calming influence on the team and I think his experience will be a benefit to the younger players.

We may well have had to approach this is the way we have because of finances or the new rules referenced by others, but the comms around this don’t look good.

I genuinely wish we would sort out the infrastructure of the club (especially recruitment, training and communications). We look amateurish at best. I honestly thought this would change with American owners, but I actually think it’s gotten worse.

He protects the back 4, keeps it simple and allows flair players to be flair players. I just don't want to see a midfield made up of 3 (pr 4) from Jairo, Rothwell, Phillips and Hamer. We really need some legs in there and have done for a few seasons.

Absolutely!

Picking two (or three) from Rothwell, Arblaster, Riedeweld, Peck and maybe Phillips is absolutely terrifying. They'll be 20yards behind play and/or all in the physio room....

I like Riedewald, as soon as he came in it lifted us. He does the basics very well.
Has fitness issues that I'm not sure "a good preseason" will necessarily sort given his history, but it's definitely a signing I'd make on a free.

We need quality around him though. The basics only take you so far. I can't remember him ever progressing the ball through the lines.
If Peck is going, we'd be looking to Arblaster to be our main man and it didn't look promising for him towards the end of the season.

Jordan James was only on loan at Leicester from Stade Rennais they had an option to buy at something like 6m euros.

They can’t afford him but as he did well it’s sparked rumours that palace, Atalanta and Villarreal and a few others are after him. Supposedly asking for about 10m now.

Say he had been still available for 6m selling peck and buying James would have been the smart business move we could all get behind but we’re a year too late on him now unfortunately

This is the main problem. Those 25 appearances count for less than 1500 minutes, which is less than 16 full 90s.

Not just last season- if you look back at his full career, he’s never had a year where he’s played more than the equivalent of 20 full league games.
