Whatever he earns next season won't affect his lifestyle for the rest of his life one bit

You wouldn't think so, but I guess he has two other children (and their mum) to look after, until they are 18? I am not an expert on family law, so I could be wrong with this.

I think my point has been missed here.

He's rumoured to be on £75K p/w at Burnley (£3.9m p/a). Compare that to 2 seasons back at Man City, he was rumoured to be on £175K p/w (£9.1m p/a) - now that is a DROP!!

  1. He knows he's in the twilight of his career
  2. He says he wants to retire at United
Let's say he's got 1 season left in him.

Option 1
1 year at Burnley = £3.9m*

Option 2
1 year at United on £25K = £1.3m

At this stage of his career a 60-70% pay cut isn't that significant. If he REALLY wants to come here, he will make the wage work.

*I also wouldn't be surprised if there's a salary drop in his contract?!?
Can you ask him for his pin code whilst you're at it??

I suppose if we offer him a 2 year deal on £25k a week. Then whilst its over 2 seasons rather than 1 with Burnley, its only a third of a cut for him from what his current deal is. Chuck in a few healthy performance based bonuses re promotion etc and a promise to give him the arm band, then i could see it be workable. It will take some give and take from everyone but its not insurmountable as a signing.

If he really wants to play for us again next season is probably his last chance given his age. With all those years at Man City I would imagine he's absolutely loaded now and would take a pay cut if he really wanted to come. You don't see many footballers taking that attitude though. For the vast majority money trumps all other considerations.
And it still does for him as he could have signed for us last summer but chose a club he had no connection to who were nailed on to be relegated. He also chose to sign the length of contract that he did. Kyle wants to end his career with us when hes got no better option.

Do you think Selles would have been interested in signing Walker ?

As above he might want to end his career with us but at the time he signed his Burnley contract Selles was manager. Walker at that time didnt know Selles would be gone after a few months

He was still an England International last Summer (you knew that!), he still had ambitions to play in the 2026 World Cup (you knew that!), he had to carry on playing in the Premier League to keep up his chances of playing of getting a place in the 2026 World Cup squad (you knew that!)

Kyle will do good back at the Lane, for both. Not bothered what it costs, if we have the dosh pay him, if he wants more don't. Better spending here than Phillips if we got the dosh. Priority is keeping the good young uns happy, Brooks, Seriki, Peck, Blaster, these are our future don't blow it on old big names it wont work.

Tell him if he intends joining us he joins by end of June or that's it his dream is over, we don't want to spend the summer fawning over him, look at other options

Walker is already minted and doesn't he own quite a few properties in and around Sheffield.

As others have said his drop in wages from City to Blades is astronomical, his drop from Burnley to Blades isn't that much.

If he's such a big fan he'll know the club simply can't afford his wage demands anyway so it's all a bit moot.

His life looks to be the other side of the pennines and thats fair enough , His eldest at thier academy and apparently he's doing a bit of coaching there too.
He's earnt his money and probably doesn't need the buggeration of travel etc , cant blame him.

I think if he ever comes back to the lane it'll be in a coaching capacity

Of course I did, Im not disputing that but whats that got to do with my statement? Its clear that he wants to end his career with us when it suits him and not necessarily us.

For him England comes first which is understandable although I am the "club before country" type

Here is a bonkers idea, not saying it should happen but throwing it out there, say he can't get released from his Burnley contract and they want a fee that we can't afford to be paying. Wilder is in his last year of his contract, could we see Walker signing on as a player/coach at the age of 37, 27/28 season? Then would be the perfect time to shuffle the set-up to a more "modern approach" bringing in a DoF, alongside a younger head coach, Walker as player/coach even at the age of 37 I think we could get at least a 1/2 season worth of minutes out of him. Jags was 37/38 in his 2nd spell with us in the Premier League and Walker has been at the pinnacle of fitness in a career at the very top level. I think we forget how recent he was a Champions League player, although only a friendly he played for England a year ago against Senegal.
