What - exactly - are you defending here?
Do you deny, for example, that Celtic fans, who largely hold Glasgow's Catholic diaspora as their cultural, tribal grounding, are unsympathetic toward Irish Republicanism, Scottish Nationalism and therefore by triangulation, support for anything which is 90 degrees to English/British political centring? I mean, that photograph is pretty representative of Celtic supporters, is it not? 'The Green Brigade' were behind this overt political stunt and the club itself appealed for the display not to happen, yet the fans chose to overrule that and display some or other message over supporting their team beating Athletico Madrid. They also sing pro-Republican songs at games, which is contentious.
So what are you defending, Frank? It's okay to stand your ground if you have a point to make, but just doing it 'because' is a bit tawdry.
