Oli McBurnie

What a conundrum, is it the player or how he was played? This year seems to indicate that he absolved do it so what was it about us that meant it didn’t work? We could see there was real talent there. As a Wilder fan in general, you have to ask whether despite the player “liking” Wilder, did the coaching team do enough to ensure he was playing to his ability? In hindsight I’m really not sure that they did.
Do we ever buy a player and play to their strengths?

It’s quite simple.

The Spaniards taught him how to kick a football properly.

Good for them 👍.

Love seeing people still trying to put this lad down. One of the best strikers in the league, just as he was for us last time. A truly appalling decision to not sign him in the summer. Delighted for him though.

Oli is not as good as Adams,Dykes, Hirst, Shankland or Stewart according to wee Stevie Clark...
Nothing to do with ability and all to do with McBurnie being a colossal bellend and refusing to apologise for it. Can’t be caught on camera slagging off international team and then expect the manager to call you up.

Maybe Auston Trusty, bringing in someone as a centre back and then selling any attacking option whatsoever makes him need to defend quite a lot. Whether he was any good at it is debatable but we gave him the opportunity to try

Not sure there's much debate at all - he was genuinely terrible at defending.

I’ve had experience of Scotland fans abroad one year in Portugal.

If I’m honest I thought they’d embrace someone who was a “colossal bellend”

Kind of hard to say when he was thrown into a team that had given up before the season starts along JLT for most of the season in the hardest league in the world, but meh, whatever, I'm sure he won't cry about your thoughts while he's counting his European football appearance fees while likely at the World Cup.

Turned down a contract offer from Wilder after spending summer training with the club before pissing off to Spain.

Spent 5 years here and couldn’t play more than 4 games in a row without having a month out.

Went on a horrendous run without a goal which ended up with the Kop chanting ‘McBurnie scores, we’re on the pitch’ most weekends.

Wanted to come and train at the club while he looked for other offers (we were right to tell him to get fucked after falling for it the previous season)

£20m for 26 goals in 146 appearances. Less than 30 games a season and 5 goals a season. 3 in 34 for Las Palmas in a farmers league. It’s easy to say with the benefit of hindsight we should have signed him but everything about the previous six years suggests we were right to stay well clear.
What a complete plank you are if you think la liga is a farmers league. You must be a pig 🐖. Entitled older bigger bollo x

Or a very thick blade on benefits. Pmsl roflcopter

Don't ever change Oli.
Good lad...View attachment 237687
If ever a photo summed up a player! Bottle of lager and a fag on the go in the changing room at Wembley!

I like Oli...I find it very hard to dislike him. He is what he is. A tremendous shithouser of the highest order, but also a really good footballer in the right team that plays to his strengths.

I wanted Boro to win yesterday cos I've got loads of mates from there. But I did really enjoy seeing Oli score the winner. Good on him, I hope he celebrated long into the night and had a very sore head this morning.

Boro lost in the semi final. Shouldn't have been anywhere near the final. Justice was done. See you season after Hull unless we accidentally get promoted

We seem to be good at not doing that. I always thought Paul Shaw was a decent player against us, when he joined us, not so much.

There’s a lengthy list of good players who were quite poor for us
Warnock’s scouting method of signing anyone who had a decent 90 mins against us wasn’t the best!
