I don’t think people (myself included) are desperate to sign him.

I’d rather not.

I mentioned him in my post because It’s just the most Sheffield United / wilder thing to do. Since he got injured wilder has bigged him up with telling everyone he didn’t fuck off back to city he was at our games and in players meetings etc. There’s been several rumours wilder wants him back and there are rumours at the city side they’ve given up on recouping anything from him and are willing to pay him up.

Not that I want it to happen but him getting paid up at city means he could be available on a “free” I say free because he’ll want a signing on fee and paying but he’ll have got a final years salary in the bank to cushion the blow of getting a greatly reduced salary in the champ.

Can’t see him getting a prem move so championship or abroad are his only options if he wants to play football it seems.
I am in the "i'd rather not" camp too, we already have an overcrowded midfield, dependent on formations. He is on £150k a week at city, we would probably need him to take the 0 off that to be realistic!

If he got paid up… he’d in effect earn the 150k a week and the 15k a week from us and be laughing his cock off on 165k a week.

Be out injured for 6 months with a missing cock.

Why are people so desperate/convinced we’re signing Phillips? We’ve already wasted 5 months wages on him we should be steering well clear.

Ultimately we have Peck, Brooks, Rothwell, Arblaster, Hamer, O’Hare, Shackleton & Chong can play in a midfield 2, even Tanganga started his career playing there.

If we were to sell a ‘big’ name like Brooks, Peck or Hamer then even half of that fee will be able to get us a better all round player than Jairo.
this

Seems obvious to me that Jairo has far better things to be doing with his time than slogging it through another season in the championship with this group of players.
That may be true.

I also know that Jairo was looking for a house to rent locally only a couple of weeks ago, they’re currently in a flat on Chelsea Heights. At that point, he had been told the club was going to make him an offer, so something clearly changed.

Source: Mrs Jairo at a mutually attended children’s party 🙂

Ultimately until we know who comes in we have no idea if Jairo leaving is ok or not. Last few weeks of the season I recall he was on the bench do maybe for whatever reason Wilder had made his mind up or Jairo wanted more money or something else like he was told he was gonna be a back up.

Or maybe as others have suggested we're saving his wages in someone else but I hope that's on Vinny not Phillips.

I genuinely think if we didn't sign Rothwell, there would be another deal on the table for Jairo, the problem is who is under contract not renewing was an opportunity to free up £25k a week wages which we desperately needed to do. We have to be careful on any future contracts now

Rugby League players are bred differently though....

Seriously, if we're even comparing the fitness of our players with us paying 'punters' then we really do have a problem. These guys should have physical attributes mortals can only dream about. The thought of Hamer, Riedeweld, Rothwell, Bamford, Arblaster completing a 10k, let alone getting close to 34 mins is hilarious.

Shows how fucked we are! We can rearrange the deckchairs all we want with retaining this guy, buying that one - until we have a diametric shift in culture/philosophy/attitude to physical excellence - we'll be slipping down the league table(s)...
There’s a pod cast with big Sam speaking about when he took over at Leeds he found that they were losing so much because they we so unfit the stats told him in the last 10 mins or so they were giving goals away

Riedewald has fitness issues

This forum constantly complains about fitness levels, rightly

Can't have too many complaints

He'll be fairly expensive and would probably miss 20 games
True, however if it’s Jairo or Phillips (who has an even worse ratio) then I’d rather we stuck with Jairo.

I think we can all agree the main positive form today is that we managed to retain the talents of Ukaki, Nwanchukwu and Zatterstrom…

😉

It’s very funny to see the Shermanater immediately start running cover for Wilder following the fans negative reaction to this news. Two articles already about ‘shock’ ‘U turns’ despite wilder telling us a month ago all these decisions had been made.

It’s all a bit worrying, innit? Looks like we’ll need one or two academy lads to progress to the first team every season, just so we can balance the books.

Who’s the next one off the production line?
Probably be Oné given his season with Lincoln, maybe an outside shout for Marsh as well.

Would expect the others like Baptiste, Blacker, Curtis, Ukaki etc to be out on loan again, or sold in terms of the A.I signings that aren't in the plans.

Don't we usually have a list of those that have been made available for transfer?
There's no obligation for us to do so and in our financial situation every player is available for transfer. The silver lining is that we are not in a desperate position so can hold out for proper valuations on our players.

Peck is top of the list. I doubt Oné will be sold unless someone offers us silly money (£15m+) and that's unlikely, even if he did do well at Lincoln.

Marsh has no value. He's a senior pro who's played 22 league games in his career, the highest of which was in the Scottish Premier League which is probably about L1 level overall.
