Now that is a compliment.

I think the similarities have been there since he started in football management SEB, not just with The Blades.

I honestly can't fault the bloke and we are very lucky to have him at the Lane. I just hope he doesn't start going round slapping fans round the back of the head in the car park. ;)

Didn't realise NEC went down either. 14 goals looking even more impressive. Think we need a striker on loan with no recall and a right back then we are done! Might be a case of a right back on loan.

We can start compiling a list to send to him. I'm sure you can think of a few, I can! :D

Just checked his disciplinary record and it's very good. On average a yellow every 10 games or so. He's had 2 double yellows (ie sent off a couple of times in the SPL about 3 seasons ago).

I think we could well have a good 'un here and from the clips, he looks like a leader.

I'm struggling to find what can go wrong here but having supported United for so long I'm not that stupid !

Unless it's B- the Blade staging his one man band protest in the car park .

After a good season in the Dutch top division I thought a team at that level there would have wanted him or if he was wanting a return here a Championship club.

Ah well. Now that Sky are showing it, people might start to appreciate the quality of the eredivisie.

LIke I said hes 31,nearly 32,the dutch lge (apart from the top few isn't great),and he's scored a few pens,BUT I think he'll be Gr8 for us !Just what we need at this moment in time,he's got a 2 year contact with an option for another 12 months,so a great deal for him as well..none of this loan bollocks !He's a proper Blade now ,and will play accordingly..he may well be the final piece in NC's jigsaw, lets hope so !

Is it just me who doubts that Higdon is the man to rip this division a new one? He's an ok signing, however I would rather have Billy :)

Paynter or Bunter.

Thank heavens no one liked this post :)

Can't say i'm surprised in seeing wednesday fans quickly touting this around either. Anything to try and put the mockers on a potentially decent signings.

Reading the posts about it all apparently it was a couple of doormen who he supposedly had a pop at according to them and other links. Then again I never believe what I read in any paper so who knows if it even happened.

What do they reckon to woman-beater Mattock?

I've been wracking my brains, I couldn't place who Higdon reminded me of, then the light came on......Lee Trundle, former Swansea player. Let's hope Higdon manages to give us the threat we've been missing, could be hugely beneficial for McNulty, Scoogs, Diego etc

Steve Bull I thought

From the clips he can use both feet, head a ball, looks hungry, has a bit of pace and seems to take good positions - he may just be the one :)

He's the first to accept that he hasn't. This is from the Daily Record of 22 May 2013. It's rather an endearing bit of self-assessment and does him credit:

Higdon bagged 26 SPL goals this term to make him the league’s top marksman.

But as he ponders his future, the big Scouser admits he isn’t good enough to go down south and cut it in the Premiership.

He said: “This award caps a wonderful season for me. I’m the first player outside of the Old Firm to finish top scorer in a long while.

“I want to go as far as I can in my career but I don’t think I could play in the Premiership.

“I think that’s a step too far for me as I’m not the quickest player in the world.”

Just spoke with a Celtic fan at work, he had to think for a moment who he was then said: “ah yeah, played at Motherwell, big strong lad, not lacking pace, will hold the ball up well and can finish. Will get you 20 goals a season”
He questioned whether he could play much higher than L1 based upon what he saw in the SPL, but that’s not for us to worry about just now.
With Higdon, McNulty, Baxter, Murphy and then most probably Ched, even Porter will give us a couple of goals from the bench, we’ll have great striking options, and then we’ve got the midfield and defenders to weigh in with set piece goals.
Well done Sir Nigel of Clough

Wouldn't that be nice? At this level, someone comparable to Bully would be ideal. Never quite good enough at the top level, but Steve Bull was a tough proposition for most defenders, a prolific scorer, and revealed a loyalty to Wolves that you probably wouldn't find today. Let's hope we've got someone who establishes himself as a man born to wear the shirt, who could have a galvanising effect on the whole squad over the next couple of seasons. UTB

Huge dose of reality in that assessment, it's almost certainly what's driven Higdon throughout his career. Cometh the hour, cometh the man.....we'll soon know if we've got that target we've been looking for, but even though, by his own admission, he's not the quickest, neither were Rickie Lambert or Peter Withe, and both offered good tactical awareness and football intelligence. Let's hope the wait has been worth it.

What's the reported fee then, has anybody been told anything? I've read one saying £75k plus £40k add on's & another being £175k.

Apparently Clough has said it was a small fee?
