I hope we have not overpaid for him.

I still think Davies on loan is a better option.

Jim Phipps has all but officially confirmed a striker is joining this week, all signs point towards Higdon being the one.

I view it as a good signing who'll both score goals and he'll cause all sorts of problems for defenders in our league.

BTW these quotes are from Jim Phipps himself:

''There are two things our fans want this week. I am predicting they'll get both. ;-)''

''more strength up front and three point on the League 1 table''

Me as well Coops! Surprised if this one did happen, as I'd have expected him to be going to clubs above our level. Also done well in Holland and thought a couple of clubs might have moved for him there. Still, anybody who did their football schooling under Dario knows how to do things properly.

Also he played at Motherwell, scored pots of goals and played alongside Murphy with good understanding.

Don't understand you saying he would go to a club 'above our level',he's 31,and still really untried above lge 1 (or equiv),and I would suggest that we are the biggest club he will have signed for ?
I think the lure of players that have come here, will be the chance of being in a winning team most weeks, decent wages, good home crowds, and the chance of champ football next year ?
Having said that, i think he would be a really good signing for us ,seems a bit of a cocky beast up front, and we have plenty to feed off him !

Really? I can't see the attraction. 28 and not improving. Not even a ten-a-season man, never mind 20. Higdon by a mile for me.

True but I think Higdon is a bit random and are there any other club interested him?

Good we are looking abroad but just not sure about this guy.

Clough is not really a random manager, though, mate.

He and his team will have seen this lad regularly for Motherwell. Scotland is one place he really covers like a blanket. Higdon's a proper centre-forward as I understand it. I think he'll do very well - goals and assists - and lead the line, something we haven't had for a while.

O'Grady was my choice but I'm happy with this one. We should get a good 3 years out of him. 30 isn't old and he looks fitter now than when he was knocking 'em in for Motherwell (the season they finished third).

Yes!

Just worked out I remember Higdon now!

I thought I recognized the name but it's finally come to me. I vaguely remember him at Motherwell scoring regularly for them. Yep should do alright for us I think and he probably is someone other clubs have forgotten about.

If McCall had become manager in 2013 it was thought inevitable he would bring Higdon with him. Higdon was asked about McCall's possible departure:

The 29-year-old striker said: “Motherwell can’t compete with the budget of Sheffield United. They’re a bigger club and I’m sure the manager is the same as the players here.

“He will have ambition and he’ll want to do as well as he can in his career. You’d think it would be a no-brainer to move to Sheffield United due to the size of the club."

Na, na, na, na....

Reckoned to be signing today/tomorrow according to reports.

Pity not earlier to have played with team but heyho bring him in.

After a good season in the Dutch top division I thought a team at that level there would have wanted him or if he was wanting a return here a Championship club.

Ah well. Now that Sky are showing it, people might start to appreciate the quality of the eredivisie.

Be a quality signing IMO. Don't know how people are saying he's unproven just because he's not done it in england. The Dutch league ranges from top half premier league sides to lower championship sides in terms of talent, and he's scored 14 goals in his first season. Pretty impressive i think.

Agreed. Those 14 goals came in 28 starts as well so he hit the magic 1 in 2 ratio.
