I’m still of the opinion that Peck will be the biggest loss and the most difficult to fill. Not sure Rothwell is that man
Couldn't agree more. Just the eyeball test this season backs that up. Without Hamer we've looked ok (some would argue we've done better - especially from a defensive shape perspective). As I've said elsewhere the prospect of moving Burrows further forward and having a left hand side of him and McCallum dovetailing quite excites me.

However, without Peck we've looked atrocious. The prospect of Arblaster and Rothwell in midfield makes me shiver. Even if we retained Phillips, we'd need more athelticslism in centre mid.

Thought Rothwell looked like he was getting his game back together on Satdi
Agreed but think about two games before 🤦‍♂️

If he can get fit and his attitude gets back on it, there’s a player in there.

I know we won’t be able to keep hold of Peck but he is a very good player and we will miss him and how he will improve.

I’m always sceptical of a wing back moving to a position further forward. It’s one thing recognising a pattern of play and over lapping to receive on the run but that’s entirely different to receiving a ball, right to the touchline, with you back to goal and with a defender challenging you. You have to have a very good first touch, shield the ball, be able to turn either way and then do some magic. I don’t believe that is what Burrows has to offer. He is not like Brooks.

Have to say that Chong showed that on Suturday. A pleasant surprise as he’s been utter dog shit previously.

Me too, but Burrows had a stint in CM last season and it's not as if he gets a nose bleed when he gets in the final third!

Just think part of our biggest issue (as a club, fanbase, coaching structure) is our rigidity and inability to be creative and come up with innovative ideas. Pretty sure Basham had never played as a CB, let alone an overlapping CB before.

Like I've also said elsewhere, pretty sure Wilder MKI tries things like this. Wilder MK3 is ridiculously rigid.

Burrows in CM was an innovative idea that completely failed.

One of my pet hates on this forum is people suggesting position moves like this.

Full backs to strikers is a common one.

It's simply not that simple. This players spend years and years learning their position, it's not just a technical ability that's needed, it's so much more.

I'm largely inclined to agree, but it's not so clean cut where Burrows is concerned.

In the 2 seasons before we signed him, he played left and centre midfield, and as an attacking midfielder, before Peterborough finally settled him down into a LB role, along with the odd game here and there in other positions. So he definitely has the versatility needed to fill a non-LB position.

Though I think his development would suffer were we to try and play him elsewhere, it's not as if Burrows would be going in completely blind.

I think Simms has done enough to be part of their squad at the start of next season. That might change if Coventry spend very big of course on several strikers and he ends up fourt choice for example.

Did you watch what happened when we played him there? Hopelessly out of his depth.

Yes he was, no argument from me. My only point was that if we were to try that with anyone, he was the best option to do it with.

Burrows having some experience of playing at CM, gave him a better chance than someone with none.
