My prediction is Leeds eventually cash in the pre-season friendly and a certain ex-Blades player tells Warnock to fuck off when he wants sweetening for playing his Worksop side.

Whilst not particularly exciting (Halifax aside, never been to The Shay) I guess the purpose of pre season games isn’t first and foremost to give the fans a jolly up.
Why not ?
It can't be for football strategy.
We never have anything like a full squad till the end of the window so the pre-season games are pretty pointless

He also said we were going to Valencia. Not sure if just a training camp or if there's a match.
We went to Valencia a couple of seasons back but there was no public game, which was a shame. There might still be something abroad to look forward to this pre-season as well as the local games.

It's just predictable Wilder.

Why we can't play someone else I don't know.
We've always played local teams pre-season, as many other clubs do. It makes sense to have a number of competitive matches close to home that fans can attend. We've done it under every manager in my lifetime. It's not another reason to have a dig at Wilder.

We could well have a week at a training camp abroad too. We often do Portugal or Spain though the opponents are usually underwhelming. We did have a game against Estoril from Portugal's top flight in 2023, and have also had open games in Faro in recent years.

Sounds like there might be one overseas according to a reliable ‘Ker on here. Might be mileage in Valencia then?

If there was a public game in Valencia it would be fantastic. Top city for a night out and cheap too. And a chance to do the Mestalla tour before it closes. This is supposed to be the final season Valencia plays there.

If I get on those orange juice, gin and cava mixtures again I’ll be in bother! 🤣

Blaming Wilder for the pre-season friendlies

View attachment 236071
I might surprise you here, but I agree with you.

Is it a little underwhelming to hear we seem to be preparing a pre-season schedule akin to that of the last few years? I'd say so - I know they're only friendlies, and they are irrelevant as far as actual competition is concerned, but it's always interesting when we schedule friendlies that are off the beaten path. See for example when we played Inter Milan a few years ago at the Lane.

But that said, Wilder appears to have a preferred approach to pre-season, that largely involves staying close to home. Nothing wrong with that. As long as pre-season is used effectively to prepare the squad for the campaign ahead, I don't think it really matters who we play, or where we play them.

On a different note although I have been to the Shay before, with York City's promotion to the EFL and potential fixture congestion. Halifax "Panthers" Rugby League recently went bust, this could be a potential stadium that could be used for our U21s as only about 1 hour away and of a decent standard for that level. Could be a fixture and a chat for terms. On another note as was looking at other teams that might use it (Huddersfield U21's don't but their head coach is Michael Tonge!)

Playing Valencia at the Mestalla won’t happen. I refuse to believe United can organise such a good friendly at such a great stadium.

I know it’s an “every little helps” type comment but if we are without parachute payments then jaunting off with around 50 folks to the continent must be a far greater cost than staying within a luxury coach journey.

Look after the pennies and the pounds look after themselves!

What's wrong with the Blue Brazil??
Nowt, great day out. I think tickets were £15 each and that included all you can eat chinese at the restaurant attached to the ground with 4 free pints, a free programme and a team sheet. Think there was 9 pubs in Cowdenbeath and we had a drink in them all some we visited twice. No doubt someone will correct me but I think it was Harry Maguires debut and he was probably MOM.
