The internet is a strange old place at times. I never quite understand why some have to see you in one ‘camp’ or the other.
I don’t think I’m a Wilder ‘fan boy’ or a ‘hater’. We’ve had some great times with him in charge, and as direct result of his leadership and style.
That being said, I think we’ve reached a ceiling and I’m not convinced we are going to kick on as a club with him in charge. That isn’t necessarily just down to his tactics, but more a case of the club is unlikely to restructure or modernise because of the set up (I think) he prefers and works best in.
Whilst we’ve had some good buys, our recruitment is, at best, patchy and more often than not, predictable. We rarely seem able to get our business done early, and I know some of that is down to getting the right price or options becoming available later in the window, but it’s a frustrating theme we have.
I don’t believe our scouting network is very dynamic and this has long been a criticism of this management team, and we continue to buy injury prone players.
The fitness of the team is woefully short of where it should be, and we seem to regularly have players on the treatment table.
A DoF would be useful addition, if not for Wilder, for the new board. I think it’s clear they have little experience in this field and that will come home to roost, if it hasn’t already.
I could go on, but these are my key concerns. Wilder V1.0 was a great adventure but I feel like that time has passed now. Given our current position, now seems like an ideal opportunity to restructure and bring in some experienced personnel across the business and start afresh for next season.
I know we tried Selles and it didn’t work, but that was because he was an awful choice, and for me it’s as simple as that. There must be numerous managers out there that would relish the chance of this project.
Having said all of this, I very much doubt it will happen. So until it does, Chris will have my support.
